    Re: KUDOS for Puccio's!!

Sorry in advance for my ignorance but thought I'd post here as I see Mr. Puccio often check in. Sounds like you are eager to please and hard working. Great!

We thought the place was a great addition to the Broadlands. Only had a question - was wondering if there are different types of Reuben sandwiches and which type yours is? Sometimes when we are in the Fair Oaks area we stop off at Chutzpah and love their Reubens! Soooo we were very excited to try Puccios. I admit, that while a good sandwich, I was slightly disappointed it was not like other Reubens I was used to. I noticed you use brown mustard on yours as opposed to the Thousand Island type dressing and (at least the day I was there) it was not grilled (which of course is much healthier I bet). Anyway, just wondering if your Reuben is just a different style? Was still good...just not saucy, grilled and loaded with kraut and corned beef when comparing to Chutzpah.

Can't please everyone everytime...we'll be back as some of the other sandwiches sound great!

Good Luck and best wishes with the new baby too!

I actually enjoy Reubens with mustard instead of 1000 island. I put it on the menu to be a little different. When a customer orders I try to point out that we make it with the deli mustard and give them the option of 1000 island. We have customers that love it with mustard and customers who love it 1000 island. We can grill it upon request. You let us know what you want and we will take care of it. Thanks for your patronage.

    Re: KUDOS for Puccio's!!

Homer, I never said Corned Beef Row in Baltimore was better than New York. But since you brought up New York, every time I go to a deli there -- whether it is Carnegie or other joints -- I get jewish rye on my sandwich. When I got to Attman's in Baltimore, I get jewish rye on my sandwich. And when I go to Celebrity Delly in Falls Church, I get jewish rye on my sandwich. Until Puccio's has the option of authentic rye bread, it ain't as good as any of those other places. And I bet your brother-in-law would even agree with that logic.

Christian, I don't use the deli at Safeway and I don't know how good/bad it is, so comparing your meat to theirs was probably out of line. And I'll give you props for standing up to clowns like me on this message board. However, I don't understand the logic in your bread selection. If you served milkshakes, would you have a vanilla/chocolate swirl, but not have vanilla and chocolate by themselves? The bread makes the sandwich, as I'm sure you know. And it's not just the quality of the bread, but the type of bread, as well. And as much as I'd like to take you up on the offer of a nice, fat corned beef ala Carnegie, it just isn't the same on that marbled stuff you use.

NoVa Barfly, Being from NY/NJ the deli capitals of the U.S, I am more than satisfied with all of Puccio's selections. If you don't like it than that's good for you. You obviously have no taste for quality deli food. Christian keep up the good work!!!

I am offended in your ethnic stereotyping. Just because you are from NY and are Italian does not make you an expert in the Deli world. Or is this a label that ALL NY Italians inherit at birth? ;)

I think he needs to add some hot soppresatta to the menu to the Italian sub...and maybe some hot and sweet peppers on it....other than that, what I've had has been good...and being a NY Italian as well, it's on our birth certificates...

Puccio's is as good as we are gonna get in Ashburn as Italian Deli's go, and I am thrilled to have them. With that said, Boars Head is not the best maker of Italian meats, and while they are a great selling point to many folks and therefore I understand why they should be on the menu, some other meat brands do a better job with Italian meats. I am especially disappointed in the Boars Head cappacolla.

    Re: KUDOS for Puccio's!!

As a man of Philly and home to the "Hoagie" I have to agree that Boars Head leaves a little to be desired with certain meats, such as capacola, Soprassata and their prosciutto. As far as a balance for cost and quality, they are good but not great. Yes my opinion is a little influenced by local tastes but I think that if you are going to dedicate yourself and your business to Italian deli sandwhiches, then you need to consider this type of stuff...

I love talking "turkey" with the Deli Guy (Christian) and just think it is great to be able to share ideas and suggestions like this.

And just in case you are listening/reading, look very closely, you get this only one time - a REAL authentic Philly Hoagie recipe:

1 ounce each of Italian ham, Prosciutto, Provolone cheese and Genoa salami
    1/3 cup shredded lettuce
    1/2 medium tomato, sliced
1/4 medium Vidalia onion, thinly sliced
    Oregano, salt, pepper to taste
    Olive oil
    Sliced hot peppers (optional)

Slice an Italian roll on one side along the length, and open up. Layer sandwich with sliced Italian ham, Prosciutto, provolone and Genoa salami. Top with shredded lettuce, tomato and slices of onion. Sprinkle with oregano, salt and pepper, and drizzle with olive oil. Serve with a dill pickle on the side.

I expect to see that on the menu next week

Dave it is on the menu. It's called the Balboa. You just described it perfectly. Here's how my menu reads: Prosciutto, Cappy, Salami, Provolone topped with Lett, Tomato, Onions, Roast Peppers, Italian Dressing(homemade), and oregano/salt&pepper on a toasted sub roll Now I expect to see you in to give it a try. :)

that is funny because my wife insists that it is what she ordered last time we were there the funny part is here I am eating my sandwhich (which was great) but thinking that hey - hers is really good. Gotta get that one next time! I think the thing that I really liked was the toasted bread part, I think that is a great touch and a good variation on the original soft Italian roll.

I will let you know next time I am in there... thanks :D

Sorry to see that Puccio's has discountinued breakfast service. Seems like everyone wants a good breakfast spot, but no one wants to go on a regular basis!

At least, I'm guessing that lack of traffic was to reason behind it.

Yes. It was due to lack of traffic. I'd rather cut the payroll hours and focus more on lunch and dinner. I thought it would be more busy due to the location on the corner of the toll road. Mezza does have a good breakfast on Sat/Sun. We will however begin a new daily special schedule next week.

    Mon-Kids eat Free.
Tues-Buy one sub get 2nd sub 1/2 off.
Wed-Combo Day. Any Sandwich, Chip, Fountain Soda for $8
    Thurs-1/2 Price Soup.
Friday-Free Fountain Soda when you buy any Sub/Sandwich.

All specials are for Dine-in Customers only.

We will be instituting a reward program as well (ie. Buy 6 subs 7th is free) by Middle February.
    Thanks for the support.

Christian, first, I want to say that your subs are fabulous! I have eaten there several times and have been more than impressed with the quality of your food.

That being said, I understand that the older gentleman who works behind the counter sometimes is your father. Could you tell him that it wouldn't hurt to be a little more cordial? The times he has waited on us, he's been rather grumpy. Everytime, I make sure to say "thank you" to him, I just get a blank stare. I'm not asking for hugs & kisses!

Maybe you should pay him more ;)

Oh Lord. Will it ever end? And Christian, while you're at it, I really like the color blue, could you paint the place blue? And get me some of that triple strawberry milk?
I'm just jokin' ya Roll Tide, but come on. It's his Pops, yo. Give this thread a critiquing break!

FWIW it's worth I was in there the other day and Christian's Pop was really nice- I had never met him before and we started talking a little bit about my pregnancy. He was extremely cordial. But I am guessing he is human as well.

Thanks Sunny. Marshall is my father in law and has been a key part of Puccio's success since the Leesburg location opened three years ago. He is quite a character once you get to know him. I'll mention the post to him and see if he can put forth more of an effort. I know some days I'm in better moods than others due to a variety of reasons. I'll try to keep it from happening in the future. Every customer should be greeted and thanked for their patronage.

I wasn't trying to be hyper-sensitive or critical, and certainly intended no offense. Just that I had been there two days in a row, and well...Like you say, we have all have our days!

Of all of the new eateries in the shopping center, Puccio's tops the list in quality!
