Red Rum spelled backwards from the movie the shining.

It might be appropriate since the developer of the piece on the corner of ashburn villge drive and waxpool has murdered that property by placing the buildings so close to the road there is no decent amount of land left to landscape and screen this ugly project from the road.

This particular developer who I do not know has been said to be playing hardball with the local community and using arrogance they can do what they want without regard to how it looks visually or effects the surrounding communities. This project may be up for the first slop award for new projects. I will have to put this project forth to the community and my architect design and developer buddies to see what they think and if it can be screened effectively from creating more Suburban blight.

Of course if your address backwards spells murder then there might be higher forces that will be hard to fight.

I can see it now all the kids that are attending some of the places over there off Murder Dr whoops I mean red rum dr and of course the new gym Wow when it gets around they are going to a place on Murder dr which will soon get out will be very very interesting.

I find it hard to believe this street naming of red rum is a coincidence. Red Rum in itself is an odd name all in it's own right. It would be interesting how this name came about and was accepted by the county.

Further considering the weird things in the Regency such as fires that burned the same home down twice and the other odd deaths such as the poor child that was run over and killed and it seems to me an unusual amount of deaths and illnesses in the Regency itself for the amount of homes, compared to other places I have lived.

Maybe I am making too much out of this but it is also interesting the fire dept also located on red rum (Murder dr) and they are always involved when there is a tragedy including murder. Hmmmm awhile back I saw something in the local paper that perhaps there is an Indian burial ground in the area because of the unusual amount of things that have happened in this local area.

Perhaps someone can do some research and find out if it is true. I know there is a mini cemetery in the New giant center by the under construction chipolte. Odd again in itself.

Perhaps my dream room is more then I have realized.

Very very scary stuff around here especially the red rum name in light of what seems to be an unusual amount of tragedy close to it.

Lee J, regarding the story that there is an Indian burial ground in the area:

A former Ashburn area Planning Commissioner (three or four commissions ago) told me about a driving range up for approval of expansion or some such, that brought out some citizens in opposition.

One woman stated that there were prehistoric Indian burial mounds on the site that she personally had seen, and they should not be disturbed.

Well, they began to look into it, and discussed cranking up the whole machine with archaeologists, the works.

A call to the applicant revealed that the prehistoric Indian burial mounds had been created by the existing business on the site about a month previously, when they had graded some low hills for tees.

There is indeed a LOT of history in Loudoun!

I wish I was making this stuff up my good buddy!!!!!!!

Now I know why when you drive by and only want to talk to me from the safety of your vehicle when I am on the porch.:D Odd in the fact that you have never come in and had a beer with me. I have to admit you did get the guts to knock on my door once in the dark of night to introduce yourself, but still seemed quite scared to have that beer.;)

Ahhhhh yes mrs munsey thanks for the history lesson.

But don't you find it odd someone would name a street RED Rum even if it did not spell Murder and come from the shining??????? Even more weird that someone did not pick up on this and refuse the name to be accepted???

My wife and I saw that the other day. I actually had to turn the car around to be sure that I saw it correct. Weird.

I dont know if any of the other streets are named for race horses, but Red Rum was a famous race horse.

"Red Rum (bay gelding, May 3, 1965–October 18, 1995. Sire: Quorum, dam: Mared) was a racehorse who achieved an unmatched historic treble when he won the Grand National in 1973, 1974 and 1977."

I wasn't scared to have a beer... I already had enough at the Skins game and I needed to drive home.

Anyone notice the pole on which the Redrum Dr sign now sits? It's easily 2-3x the height of a normal street sign and looks to be of concrete. I imagine there were plenty instances of the sign being stolen (not a surprise) leading to this.

I am surprised no one noticed it before. It has been there since before the initial bldgs were built.

And yes, it was originally lower and had been stolen a few times.

It all ties in to my Lee, Jack Nicholson theory. I don't have time to explain right now.

Interesting you say this because the original developer of the land that my neighborhood sits as well as the land where verizon is and a lot of the surrounding land was going to to a major horse race track, but whening the betting thing did not go thru it was developed as we now see it.

The original developer of all this land is a friend of mine so I will have to ask him about the Red Rum story even though he did not develop that property. The name could of had a connection to the proposed and killed horse race track.

Hey softballchick I take that as a supreme compliment
    :D thank you
T8erman a good buddy of mine played for the redskins until a couple of years ago, and he does sneak over here. :)

Fortunately I am a cowboy fan and perhaps that is why I never got invited to a redskin game when he played or now for that matter. ha ha ha :D

Cowboy and Redskin fans give this Eagles fan the hibbity jibbities. But as for the Red Rum horse, it was a british horse that ran national races in the UK. But seeing as how Broadlands is a country house near the town of Romsey in Hampshire, England(according to wikipedia) maybe it makes sense.

Never fear ye superstitious types...Steve Snow has asked the County to investigate the name Red Rum Drive, for what he finds, "personally offensive".

Lee, there is a ton more history of the fight to keep the racetrack out of that area. There was more than just having the betting thing go through that "killed" it. I mean murdered it.

You've got to be kidding! How ridiculous. While he's at it, I hope he takes care of "Shinniecock Hills Place" in River Creek. Do you think that offends him?:p

Lee, I think a lot of the street name things are dreamed up in the middle of the night, and things get passed on through. I told you about the two adjoining courts near Hutchison Farm Elementary named "Latrobe" and "Rolling Rock"--Rolling Rock beer is brewed in Latrobe PA.

There was a similar story a few years ago on license plates. Some white supremacist in VA was actually driving around with the tag Zyklon B, and it wasn't reported until someone saw it on the road and nearly wrecked their car from shock. The person who passed on that apparently didn't know their modern history.

I saw one in Loudoun one time that sounded out the F word, just spelled with P H at the beginning instead of F. No one said that one aloud, eh?

One of the best intersections I have seen(not here in VA, but in TN) was the intersection of Needmore and Needless roads.

My in-laws used to live on the corner (right angle!) of 37th and 38th streets in Arlington.
