Doubt I'll use it. I love the service at Postal Masters stage left to Safeway. When mailing a package they check rates and service from UPS, FEDEX, and USPS. Don't see any advantage to limiting the choice by going to a USPS store only.

They also keep on file your contact info and frequently mailed to addresses. Real convenient when sending stuff to college kids.

Is it open or any news on when opening? Wondering are they going to move the PO Boxes from the other post office to this one?

I find irony in that the post office is closing branches due to costs.. and the new PO here is located in a shopping center notorious for high rent issues

nice, saw this yesterday... much more convenient to drop off prepaid stuff and not have to go over to the dulles office near lifetime fitness. But I agree with flynn... doesn't seem cost effective.

Nice, I'll take it. Maybe they get a government discount on rent!

It will be nice to go there and not pay the extra charges that Postal Masters adds.

Prepaid stuff you can drop at most mailing shops. I take all my stuff to the UPS store in SW.

Although the new post office will be convenient I agree with Flynn. The owner and everyone at the UPS store are always really nice and very helpful. I always try to go to him first and support a good local business.

The Beaumeade Ashburn PO closed because they lost their lease and the owner would not renew it.
Actually, this shopping center's rents aren't as high as other Ashburn Saul Center shopping centers.

I know the move wasn't cost inspired... but when the whole organization is in critical cost savings mode... or we default on important things... there lies the irony that they move into a place so many have felt squeezed out of.

Does anyone know if the new Ashburn PO location has a retail counter? Can you ship a box from there? It looked like just a PO Box substation from afar.

Looked like a retail counter in the back. PO Boxes are up front so you can get to them after the retail portion closes.

That's what it looks like to me VACliff. Yesterday I spoke to the owner of Postal Masters and he said the postmaster visited him the other day and they talked about the competition. The postmaster said, he was required to have a footprint in 20148 and that is why they put the store in. If that is the case and this is a mandate then no wonder the post office is losing taxpayers money. Also how much did that dang sign cost us over the new store 10K?

I heard they are only going to be open from 11 to 5. What a waste.

One quibble. It's not taxpayers' money. USPS is not federally funded.

The old location wasn't in 20148... does he have footprint in the other 'ashburn' zip codes too?

I would be pissed if I were that business owner. But we've already seen there is no hope of the center's developer sticking up for protecting their tenants... so no chance there either.

I'm sure there are plenty of other spaces feasible within 20148... but I'm sure it's a lot simpler for them to just plop in a strip mall to avoid facilities issues like parking lots. And if you do that, there are really only 3 such centers in 20148. But there are a lot of light industrial areas too.. even more so in 20147.

No but the USPS gets it's money from sales to taxpayers.. and as they are a government monopoly on mail delivery... it's still the taxpayers funding it and relying on it to operate efficiently.. less lose it or pay more for it.

As a taxpayer, you have no other option for standard mail.
