Here's a bit of gossip from my wife: the two new restaurants opening in the Broadlands Village Center (across from Safeway) will be:

    Bonefish (http://www.bonefishgrill.com/home.asp ); and

The Original Steakhouse and Sports Theater (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&q="original+steakhouse+and+sports+theater"&spell=1 )

Bonefish is a seafood chain and I think it is owned by the same company that owns Outback and Carrabbas.

The Original Steakhouse and Sports Theater is a FL-based chain. According to the first link in the google search posted above, there is also a restaurant in Edgewater, MD.

Pretty good choices, if you ask me!

Bonefish is also a Florida native - Tampa/St Pete I believe. With a great reputation. Of course that was before the founder drowned in Tampa Bay last year...

    And they offer a gluten-free menu!! WOo-hoo!:D

There is a Bonefish in Centreville also, if anyone wants to try them out before they open here. Glad to see a steakhouse coming to the area!!

Do you know when they will be opening?

She works for Loudoun County and is currently attending a conference at Stonebridge HS (near the Giant). Anyway, the owner-to-be of the "Original Steakhouse" was there today doing a promo/raffle, and my wife met him. He says they are opening in November 2004. Maybe these restaurants will be the "corner" lots adjacent to the plaza -- this makes sense, since Saul's website lists these buildings as opening in Fall 2004.

Not sure how he knew about Bonefish, but I would assume that a prospective buyer would want to know what their local competition would be before they buy.

We've been to the Bonefish in Fairfax, and we highly recommend it! A huge variety of different kinds of fish, although on our first visit, the waiter recommended the fliet mignon...so the menu accommodates non-seafood folks as well. Bang Bang Shrimp is the best appetizer!

Is this confirmed? We will be thrilled to have them in the neighborhood!

It is confirmed to the extent you believe what I am saying. I am confident that my wife talked to someone who thinks they are the prospective owner of an "Original Steakhouse" restaurant, and that they think they are building it in Broadlands.

If someone is so inclined (I am not), I am sure they could contact Saul Centers, Inc. for confirmation at (301) 986-6200.

Just saw a sign on the San Vito restaurant that they are opening this coming Monday (8/9) at lunchtime. They have taken down the paper from the windows so you can see in. It looks like a very nice addition to our community!

I think Bonefish and the Steakhouse would better serve the county if they were located in South Riding or by MCI and that the imapact of these restaurants on existing restaurants would be negative...

Sorry, I couldn't resist saying that...

If it's Bonefish, then we're due for a good seafood restaurant. I've seen them around the country and recently ate at the location in Indianapolis. I was impressed.

Whatever happened to the rumor that Glory Days was coming to Broadlands? Don't tell me hospital opponents killed that one? (Sorry, gotta keep the fur flying...)

    Rob-
This was the response I received back in March from Glory Days :

"Thanks for your response. We have just recently begun preliminary discussions for a site adjacent to the Greenway in the Ashburn/Broadlands area. Hopefully, we can all agree to the required terms and a Glory Days Grill could open there next year. In the interim, our Sterling, Reston or Gainesville locations will welcome you."

I still have his email address if anyone wants to pursue this any further.

Our all time favorite restaurant in the area, although not in Broadlands, remains the Old Dominion Brewery. I think they have the best sandwiches, not to mention, suds, around! [)]

I gave up on the food from ODBC when I found this report:

Old Dominion Brewing Co Pub - Inspection Report
    Inspection Information:
    Facility Type: Restaurant
    Inspection type: Routine
    Inspection date: January 07, 2003

Critical Violation: Premises are not being routinely inspected for evidence of pests. Live adult and small roaches were observed by stock rack. Mouse droppings were observed on top of cans on storage rack in kitchen.

Enjoy the beer, but avoid the food!

That's just what gives their food that special flavor that keeps people coming back!

That is quite old and I believe that the county has been back there a few times without the same issue being raised.
