We got a flyer in the mail for FIOS TV the other day, of course going to the url listed and plugging in our info tells us we can't get anything yet, but we can get added to the mailing list...

I only tried it because some of the holes along Glebe View seems like that could be fiber pulls. I've seen Verizon trucks working on Glebe View by Broadlands Blvd and also across Truro Parish.

*IF* they start digging for FIOS in the Broadlands in a couple of weeks, it could still take months before they take orders. Unless they have improved the deployment process.

yes, the average was about 4-6 months AFTER cable was laid before.. but I think that is shrinking...

Ok I talked to a somewhat helpful tech on the phone yesterday. He gave me a link to the website and stated that the construction zones are updated every month. If our community is not on there then we should not expect Fios. Here is the link: http://www22.verizon.com/about/community/va/

I am not sure how long it will take once our community gets on that list as I heard it can be between 2-6 months. Sad that we are voted Loudoun county's #1 rated planned community and we are on the bottom of the Fios list and my street is not even going to get cable from Comcast till July-September.

Comcast must think that FIOS is getting close - we have been receiving a couple of calls a day asking us to sign up for their triple play (with a two year commitment). They must be putting on the full court press now in order to lock folks in before the competition arrives.

Not really; they've been at this ever since they took over from Adelphia. They're aiming at all us dish users.

They can't "lock you in"; it's a month-to-month service, and you can cancel anytime. The bundle 'deal' price is good for one year for new customers, and then you get charged regular rates.

Cable companies can't 'lock you in' for any of their services and charge you a 'penalty fee' if you move to another service provider. It's part of their agreement with the county...

Interesting. The flyer we got in the mail footnotes in small print a two year commitment required...

I didn't see that ANYWHERE on their site when I tried to go through the whole 'signup' process this afternoon before posting. I specifically did it to read all the fine print, Terms/Conditions, etc. So, their website is lacking the fine-print on their mailings... Now THAT'S interesting...

Are you sure the 2 year commitment is not for the 'special price'? Did they indicate anything about a 'penalty fee' if you drop their service before 2 years?

It is a 2 year commitment for the bundle price, that's usually the catch for getting a "deal" just like cell phone service. It also does state a $150 early termination fee applies if you cancel OR downgrade your service in the first 2 years. This is from one of their mailings, I didn't look on their website.

If you didn't see anything new here since you wrote last month, then nothing new has happened.

I will hopefully have more specific info next month. Broadlands is in their development map, but just not quite yet.
The two major "trunks" that they branch our from in the Ashburn area are in Brambleton and near Hay/Ashburn Rds. We are at the end of either trunk line.
There are a few sections that are supposed to be served by the Brambleton trunk and the Southern Walk lack of easement rights will delay these sections.

That's the portion of Claiborne north of us, towards Ashburn Farms. Last month they worked on the intersection of Claiborne and Ashburn Farm Parkway in order to prepare for this month's expansion into the Farms and Claiborne north of the Greenway.

It's also to the south. Lakes at Bella Terra are off of Ryan Rd. where Claiborne will someday be extended.

I saw a crew out yesterday running fiber optic under Waxpool at the intersection with Claiborne. Not sure if it was Verizon or not.

Open Band is out there quite often running fiber for Southern Walk. I would be willing to bet it's not Verizon but I'm also the cynic when it comes to Verizon's broad band plan in the Broadlands.
