They seem to get thrown down even with the bike racks. I will see what I can do about SW but I am fairly sure I do not have any place I can put them at CC where they will be used (but let me see what I can figure out)

Last I heard he had gotten a job working for Norwegian Cruise lines - supposedly and 18 month gig.

Crowded pools due to outside memberships?

Is anyone else out there annoyed by the fact that our pools were so crowded this past weekend due to other neighborhood families still buying memberships to our pools. I understand that this was necessary a couple of years ago, but our neighborhood development has increase over the past year and therefore memberships should not have been needed. Just wondering!

There have been less than 70 outside memberships sold so far for the 2010 season. They can only use the Southern Walk and Community Center Pools, so they do not affect capacity at the Summerbrook pool. These memberships pay for improvements at all the pools without dipping into HOA funds or reserves. A blistering hot, holiday weekend usually means crowds at the pools, I'm not sure those outside memberships contributed heavily to the number of people using the pool.

The pools are ALWAYS crowded the first weekend. What makes you think that the reason for this was outside memberships?

Every year we have this same concern that is raised after the first weekend, and then folks realize it has nothing really to do with outside memberships and more to do about 'opening weekend'.

Outside memberships pay for quite a bit of pool expenses. Without them, our monthly fees would definitely go up. Is that what you would prefer?

Re: Crowded pools due to outside memberships?

The pools were crowded because of people bringing in guests - there were over 35 guests at Southern Walk alone on Saturday (the least crowded of the days). When we hit capacity at Community Center not one person there was an outside member. You can be annoyed but it was crowded this weekend because your neighbors were using it.

Well, until you can convince the Board to stop selling them, I will continue to support this revenue stream that has virtually NO impact to the community.
In fact, we need to promote it more to sell more of them!

    HEAR HEAR!

Let's go door-to-door and try to sell. ANYTHING to help keep our monthly dues down.

just make sure you have your door to door solicitors license on ya... lol

i agree- this is a wonderful revenue stream especially when a relatively small % of us living in the B-lands use the pool at any given time. think about how many homes are out there vs. the number of residents at the pool on sunday...

Re: Crowded pools due to outside memberships?

We got our "Outsider" membership! I'll be happy to paint a big red X on my forehead so jkb can blame me for the overcrowding. :D

One question though, where are the home swim meets held, and what is their schedule? I looked elsewhere on the HOA site, but no luck. A sign in is needed for the swim team page. I'd like to mark my calendar so I don't show up, only to burst into tears.

The Swim Teams have their own website: http://broadlandsswimteam.org/

Hopefully you'll find the information you're looking for there, otherwise, I'm sure someone else here will be able to post what you're looking for...

I think I found the exact pages you were looking for:

    Is that what you needed?

I may have missed it, but what happened with the vandalism? Was it anything serious that caused significant damage? It's fantastic that you have info on who is responsible. I wonder if it was the same people responsible for spraying hateful graffiti all over the inside of the tunnel across from the SW pool a few months back. Not to get too off-topic, but there is still a small amount of graffiti that needs to be cleaned up on the sidewalk leading down to the tunnel. Who can we report that to?

There was no vandalism that caused damage, just cleanup - chairs tossed into the pool, trash throw about etc...Please contact the HOA office regarding graffitti any where in the neighborhood. 703-729-9704

    Thank you

On another pool matter. I think it's great that you have adult swims at CC in the early mornings. Unfortunately I'm on my way to work at that time. Is it possible that two evenings a week could be for adult swims?

I know each resident is credited 10 guest passes a year but do we need to do something for those or do we just bring out guests to the pool??

Once school gets out there is always at least a lane available at Southern walk and at Community center for lap swimming. If those lanes are becoming crowded I can always put in a second lane at SW I just need to know.

All you need to do when you bring your guests is sign them in at the desk - each pool has a guest book with their name your name and address. This eliminates any line we had in the past caused by checking guests in as we just enter them at a later time.
