Took my son to Quizno's after his baseball game last night -- but it was gone. Nothing but a "For Sale" sign. Couldn't help but think of all the businesses we've lost in the last couple of years -- many of them quite good. Thought a list may be in order:

    Puccios
    Bravo Pizza
    Quizno's
    Cafe 3-2-1
Party Store (over by the fire station)
    Partlows Market
    Big Apple Bagel
    Sport Clips
Dunkin Donuts (never built, but it's my list and I was heartbroken)
Pizza place that used to be over by Wing Factory? Can't recall name.

What have I missed? What's next?

It was Catanuso's over by the Wings factor and Bread Unlimited where Big Apple Bagels used to be.

The Hawaiian Scoop place over in old ashburn closed too.
Along with Beef O'Brady's (not a loss in my opinion)

Village something replaced O'Brady's never been- heard nothing positive yet.

bangkok bbq closed too. i am bummed about that one.

someone posted about the place that replaced o'brady's the other day. said they thought it was owned by the guy that ran the restuarant at ODB. decent feedback so far (though haven't tried it myself).

cafe rumi is wonderful. i tend to head to spicy pickle for sandwiches though.

It is called the Village Grill. I have not eaten there yet but stopped by about 4pm last Wed and was surprised how many people were there. The location may be bad but there are a couple places around here that are doing ok with not the best location. If the food is worth it people will find you.

try Rumi's Roast beef and Brie (panini style) or chicken salad- they are fab! I am a big fan of Spicy Pickle too- the Sausalito Bandito is to die for...

We read the positive reviews of Cafe Rumi and gave it a shot this weekend. My wife and I picked up sandwiches togo for lunch on Saturday - she had the Roast Beef and I had the Turkey. I've gotta say, I'll take Spicy Pickle over Rumi 7-days a week. I'm not sure if it was on purpose or accidental, but it seems they put lettuce on the sandwiches before putting it into the panini press. Heated, wilted lettuce is bad news - our sandwiches were pretty sub-par. Seems like a good place for coffee or pastry, but we won't likely be back for lunch.

We've been there several times and have always been satisfied. In fact, I think they have some of the best sandwiches anywhere in this area.

By the way, was lettuce a special request? I have never heard of lettuce on any Panini.

that's why both will do well- diff strokes, diff folks. i think the freshness and quality of Rumi's ingredients beats pickle, but i love the sausalito bandito and their she crab soup... yum. they will both get my biz depending on my mood!

I went to Cafe Rumi yesterday and was pleased with the service - the man working there was very accommodating for our group, which included little kids running around (unfortunately). They were out of pretty much all their pastries except for a few danishes, but the smoothie and the chai tea were great.

I drove in the Parkhurst shopping center on Monday and it appeared that Bangkok BBQ was still open and even had a sign outside the explicitly stated so.

We can add Trevisio's in the Ashburn Farm Shoping Center to the out of business list. :(

I saw it coming when they closed for lunch, then closed on Sundays.

dang. i never got the chance to try it. it's truly a case of saturation here- to many similar businesses jockeying for business. i think when some of these businesses are evaluating this area they forget that the population of Ashburn is more CHILDREN than adults. if they counted the population by HOUSEHOLD rather than number of residents, I bet we wouldn't see near as many duplicate businesses here that can't survive.

This is an excellent point -- there are many restaurants I won't go to because they are not kid friendly/comfortable -- and I bet 50% of Ashburn is the same way! Caliber of food is almost irrelevant.

So you would rather kids be allowed to run around and ruin other dinners experience? Why would you want that? Can you clarify this for me or explain why I may be misunderstanding? Unless you mean that some restaurants don't have highchairs or those accommodations?

well there needs to be a balance. ppl with kids need kid free environments too- not just bars, but upscale date night places where the don't seve chicken nuggets.:) I have and love my kid but we make a point to enjoy OUR relationship as well as our family time. and don't forget- there are still DINKs (Double Income No Kids) and empty nesters in Ashburn- so EVERY place shouldn't force children on the patrons. :)
