OK - Fox is getting rediculous. They are broadcasting rumors, second and third hand accounts.

I've been switching between CNN and local ABC. They are talking to students on the phone and showing cell phone videos, etc.

Fox now says 32 people killed, CNN still says "over 20". Either way this is horrifying. I went to school there - I can picture these buildings where this happened. I can't imagine what people are going through.

For once lets not make this new thread about who's reporting what in regards to media news. This isn't about ratings, best news channel, etc....I can't imagine what the students nor the parents are going thru right now. The least we can do is keep them in our prayers.

I am shocked... this is sad and heart breaking. :(
I've been watching news all morning....

This video is from a grad students cell phone who was in the area,
You can hear about 27 gunshots and someone screaming in the end, pretty creepy...

I know a bunch of kids down there that work for me when they are home from school and am a Hokie. I started calling all of them as soon as I heard about this. I was relieved to hear that they were all okay. One of them was walking into a building two buildings down when it happened.

Today i proudly wear my orange and maroon!

I heard some Va congressman on the radio this morning grandstanding about how George Bush Sr. passed legislation to restrict assault rifles, and W. let that lapse...and all this other garbage about how W. is the devil. I'm glad he couldn't wait more than 24 hours to hop up on the horse...blame the president and his previous congress for killing 33 people yesterday. then he called for non-partisan legislature to get control of guns. Can we please have more than 24 hours to mourn our university's loss? Thanks Jim Moran!

apparently the brits are chiming in too--->

That seems to fit in with the thread that was started on these boards yesterday (I believe around 1:30, see below) questioning gun control. It was real nice to see.

"Mr. and Mrs. Hokie parent, your son/daughter was just killed a hour ago, but what is your position on gun control?"

    Real class.

So now they have confirmed the identity of the shooter. He was a student, he did live on campus.

He was a senior english major. A resident alien from South Korea who's residence is Centerville. They have confirmed at least one of the guns was used in both the dorm and Norris hall shootings. They have not eliminated the possibility of accompliaces or other people being involved, but they believe he was alone in the crime.

They have not confirmed the link between the shooter and the victims in the dorm shooting.

Speculation though.. lovers quarel. We can't think of any other reason why he would chose Norris Hall as his target. It's not very big, and he would not have necessarily been familar with the building. English majors don't spend time in the engineering building

Another perplexing aspect to me (I did not watch news last night) was they say he was chaining doors shut so people could not leave. This isn't stuff you just have lying around your dorm room There must have been some real pre-meditated planning.

From the scant evidence that has been reported - this was planned for a long time - at least a month - as the shooter has a recipt for the Glock dated this past March. This pre-meditation is also substantiated by the eye witness account of at least an ammo vest and perhaps a bullett proof vest. So, a chain is not out of the question.

I wonder if the chains were to keep people from leaving or to keep authorities out. Both, probably...but if it was to keep people in, that's the sick part.
