If there is a picture of a chick next to it, then I don't see a problem with it.

You may have missed my point. What I'm saying:

    1. I don't find it offensive and agree that many people are over-sensitive these days .

    2. I think there was a deliberate play on words with the "chick" thing. However, if a play on words was NOT intended then the people involved in creating the ad campaign need to be fired for being too stupid to see it. If they truly didn't mean a play on words, they could have used "bunny" or anything else. Again... moot, because I believe it was deliberate.

I am not saying people need to be fired because readers took offense to the campaign.

I really don't think it is funny to imply that women are not smart. Is it poking fun at women? To make a joke about shoe infatuation, or chocolate obsession, or even nagging about picking up around the house- these jokes all have truth in them. Is there truth in "So easy to text a chick could do it"? Or is it funny simply because there is no truth to it at all?
"Chicks dig AT&T "would have been funny and a cute play on words.
I am not up in arms about the ad, I wanted to see what everyone on this forum thought, and I personally think it's offensive- like a stinky sock. Yuck. How could they. But not up in arms.

    Sunny,
I'm with you girl. You call AT&T-- if you can dial, that is-- and tell them how you feel. The message didn't get to me-- that magazine always gets filed in the trash can in my household.

just now returned from Easter with the in laws...

i DO think this ad is poorly thought out and obviously a underhanded dig at the intelligence of women. but nowadays, the kind or MO-ron that call women "chicks" is the real idiot, so it's hard for me to be mad about it.

then i think about all the dumb women i know, and I blame THEM for this ad. lol :)

so- i made the racial and religious comparisons: " so ebonics- friendly, even da homeboyz could tex', u fil me?..." or- "so cheap, even a jew would buy it"... and it's just not as offensive to me as those.

i can understand how we <women> could take offense. But since it IS near Easter, and it IS kinda clever in spite of the insinuation that women are dumb while trying NOT to overtly say it... that definitely wasn't the INTENTION of the ad. But some some marketing idgit KNEW it would get ppl talking, and no press is bad press... so they say.

I am officially not offended, since i am neither dumb nor a chick, i would just say that it was in poor taste. Sunny- you are SO COMPLETELY the opposite of a "chick"- but I get your point and know YOU well enough to know why you are ticked. I will burn a bra with you anytime! :) lol

just like i am not offended when i hear "ho" in reference to a black woman- cuz I KNOW (insert neck roll here!) they are NOT talkin' 'bout ME!

    SNAP.

NOTHING IF THE PERSON SAYING IT IS A WOMAN! lol

seriously- doesn't EVERYTHING depend on context? what was that commercial where all the guy said was "Chicks, man...." and it was funny?

i can't recall the last time a male called me a chick except in a tongue in cheek humorous situation, or when they say "blah blah blah then this smokin' HOT CHICK blah blah blah"...

i don't mind being called a chick at all. i just don't like the ad's insinuation.
i also don't think i am being a feminist by asserting that. (bra burning....)
anyway, it makes for good forum fodder, that's for sure;)

I mean really; I've personally seen a Macaw dial a cell phone and even say hello. How far behind can chiks be? I ask you, when is the last time my wife laid an egg? Until we find some real similarities here, I wish everyone would stop comparing the female gender to birds!

No, but I did eat at the new restaurant in Tysons yesterday called Chics n'Wings. It is next to Bed Bath and Beyond. Ironically, they played a song by the Dixie Chicks in the bar area.

My opinion, for what its worth - I think its just a bad advertisement, made for the Easter holiday. The ad guy/woman who thought it was clever should be smacked around a little for poor judgement.
I am not offended by it, however. Being a woman, a smart one at that- I pick my battles and focus on what is important. That ad does not demean me, or in any way makes me question my intelligence or abilities.
Its just a stupid ad. Thats it.
