You know Afgm and I will say it again I do respect your opinions big time

I have mainly entered this argument from an location point of view. I just sometimes get caught up in the politics because they make the final decision.

Personally an hospital might work from an design point of view and be a good neighbor. The intrusive nature the present design and I see it very a very different point of view then most. An animated study should be done. And an complete redesign to make it more residential in character to so it blends in better, Perhaps not as tall the parking put more in the ground or some kind of landscaping on the parking garages itself. The actual hospital should be designed more campous style to bend into the residential character of the neighborhood.

The resevered land needs to be used to widen the buffer. And there needs to be some kind of resolve for the expansion even way into the future, lets not kid ourselves they will not wat to expand beyond the final build out or try to put the heliport back in someday. We have an Lawyer on the board now actually several lawyers are on the BOS:happygrin: With their expertise and guidance perhaps this hospital could be doable. But right now the hospital people are certainly not going in that direction and are in the beginning of starting another fire storm. If this is re-designed as ansmall residential style hospital so rt 50 can get their future hospital in an reasonable time and make the adjoining residents happy. Yes go for it.

    Two the two major problems

Will this hospital interfere with the future of the rt 50 hospital??????

Will the design of this hospital fit the character of this residential neighborhood and be a good neighbor??????

And can this hospital be kept small enough to stay in the original vision of what they are saying to us today and to accomplish this they must redesign to give it a small town residential character type of hospital. And all the future expansion needs to be on the table once and for all.

Also an video and sound animation should be required before any decision is made.

Lee, I'll give you a better idea of where I come from. I am a huge believer in personal responsibility for being compassionate.

What have I ever built? Nothing physical. But I have started and grown my own family business whose mission is to help families of children with learning and behavior difficulties. We have helped thousands of clients and every day, I am grateful to receive emails and testimonials thanking us for helping to change people's lives.

Our organization is very unique and we deal with complex, tough family issues that others have not been able to solve. We offer families hope and practical solutions, and we've been recognized nationally for this work. (That's why this forum is a release for me--throughout the day and night, it is mentally taxing to try to develop solutions that help desperate families. On this forum, I can be a jerk and spout off...which I can't do with my clients!).

We donate hundreds of hours of our time each year to families across the country who cannot afford our services. I personally drop everything to advocate for single Moms in the D.C. area who need help, never asking for a dime in return.

This is my definition of compassion, not wanting some business or government agency to help people--we do it ourselves. Our revenues were around $95k this past year, but we donated $14,500 to charities. Our goal this year is to give 20% away.

Beginning later this month, as a family, my wife, my son and I will be volunteering each month at a local homeless shelter and visiting chronically ill children. That's what we're really about. Hope that helps you understand a little more where we come from.

I think flynnibus has got it right about this thread in his post a few posts back:happygrin:

)))))))Quote from steve This thread reminds me of a great song...

    Round and round
With love we'll find a way just give it time, time, time, time
    Round and round
    What comes around goes around
I'll tell you why, why, why, why
    Round and round

    Ratt - 1984

You should recognize this thread just goes round and round and there is really not much being said here except people coming up with new, more ludicrous things to say. Just let it die already... quote (((((((((((

And I will add if anyone from the outside read this whole thread they would probably think we are a bunch of loon's here and would think twice about living here. ;)So perhaps the funny farm would be a better fit on the site and it could tie in the design of clydes farmhouse design:happygrin:

Lee - the politics involved with HCA proposed BRMC is germane and IMO I applying a ubiquitous statement that it doesn’t apply is flawed. While I have not read every piece of documented meeting minutes - I've followed it for a few years and there are some serious implications - mainly the former BoS & inova.

1)With respect to the future of rt 50 - if the old BoS had approved the CPAM of an additional 33K homes - absolutely I think both inova and hca could have and would have been approved for a COPN. From what I recall both (inova & hca) did not see the rt 50 corridor as a desirable place to build a full service hospital. Urgent Care yes - full service no (at this time). So lets fast forward a couple of years – if and a big if hca start to break ground on BRMC – help me understand what if any affect this would have on the future of rt 50 - I just dont see it - but if you explain it I'll keep an open mind.

    2) That is a valid question and concern. I am sure that the BoS & HCA would welcome suggestions especially from a person of your expertise.

In all seriousness I applaud you Silence Dogood99 and your family:clap::clap::clap::clap::clap: That is certainly something to be proud of what you and your family do for a living. It takes very special people like you to give like that. Thanks for your contribution to helping others. I really mean that in all seriousness. :) Sometimes we forget how many of us here on the planet are very very fortunate. Although I have had many a tough time in life also perhaps not as bad as those you help, but non the less when you make it through it especially with the support and help of friends and family, it can put a smile on your face that we are not alone here and their are many compassionate people like you in the universe. thanks for sharing Silence. :)

Just got back from a two hour walk with my husband and kids and there were only about 15 new posts with pretty much the same arguments.

Lee - the opposition to clydes had nothing to do with its 'style' - just like much of the opposition to the hospital has nothing to do with the 'style' - in fact most of your ammo has been devoid of such comments (helicopters, mental patients, people dying on the toll road, etc).

You can't even stay on YOUR OWN points.

Lee, you will find unanimous (except for NIMBYs along rt 50) that a hospital will eventually be needed on Rt 50. Both Inova and HCA have publicly stated this. BOTH(!!) have publicly stated the population on Route 50 does not support a full hospital at this time. So, no interference, just future competition. And that's a good thing.

The last design included a significant amount of buffer and landscaping, above and beyond in my opinion. I am sure if there are additional ideas HCA would listen, they have in the past.

I'll state something again: THE HELICOPTER PAD WAS WITHDRAWN!!

Steve you just can not believe what comes up in a project that will go into an area close to residential.

I was one of the leaders and part of the parent team for the new design of a school in Santa Monica my kids were going to go to and my wife taught there. The Architects for the new school really did a brilliant job in addressing all the neighbors fears and the parents fears and the students fears. There was a lot of interaction between the community and the architects and school board and teachers and students and parents. It was an collaborative that went to minutia especially in the placement and design of that school. The architects were very patient in their approach which I rarely see around here if ever. The school was totally surrounded by homes in an older neighborhood close to the beach yet those architects were able to design a school that blended into the community wonderfully and the school got absolutely no opposition when it was voted on for approval. These architects did there due diligence and met with everyone involved or would be effected by this school and did not dish anyone no matter how crazy an thought anyone had. Now that is success and win win for everyone.

Believe me Steve if the final outcome of Clydes design and placement on the site was not so successful, it would be hated to this day and beyond. If an MacDonald's was there instead you would never hear the end of it. The design saved Clydes from becoming a bad neighbor.

In design and planning successfully all the points must be addressed successfully no matter how obscure one thinks they are, every project takes on it's own life.

Another process that has been successful in in designing a project or development to be an good neighbor is the Charette

    Here is a quick explanation

afgm I have seen the design and plans and site plan, give me a break. a video would quickly address any potential problems very quickly and could ease the residents fears if what the hospital says is true or open up the design flaws that could be corrected either way it would go a long ways in resolving many issues. Would you want to know what something is going to look like and how it will impact your property. Animated videos can do that very successfully.

Also what is to say the heli pad is not added back in, where are the safe guards to protect the residents from future abuses.

I think that you misread it. When I heard it, I put it in the context of the speech, and his personality. In retrospect, I think that my interpretation may be closer.
First innaugural speech, "We [the government] shall reflect the compassion that is so much a part of your [the people] makeup. How can we love our country and not love our countrymen; and loving them, reach out a hand when they fall, heal them when they're sick, and provide opportunity to make them self-sufficient so they will be equal in fact and not just in theory?
Second innaugural speech, "We have already started returning to the people and to state and local governments responsibilities better handled by them. Now, there is a place for the federal government in matters of social compassion."

A hospital here would probably attract alot of people who go to hospitals in Fairfax.

So a person creates this animation (BTW, you are FIXATED with this. Go to Disney my man!) by plugging KNOWN attributes and even maybe what he/she wants people to believe. How in the hell does this identify unknowns?

You left out the direct previous paragraph, which puts it ALL in context. How can you possibly read this amazing speech and think it has anything to do with government involvement?! Here's what you left out preceding this quote:

"Now, I have used the words "they" and "their" in speaking of these heroes. I could say "you" and "your," because I'm addressing the heroes of whom I speak--you, the citizens of this blessed land. Your dreams, your hopes, your goals are going to be the dreams, the hopes, and the goals of this administration, so help me God.

"We shall reflect the compassion that is so much a part of your makeup. How can we love our country and not love our countrymen; and loving them, reach out a hand when they fall, heal them when they're sick, and provide opportunity to make them self-sufficient so they will be equal in fact and not just in theory?"

Come on, you butchered Ronald Reagan here. From what you know of his personality? He was the most ardent believer in individual rights and limited government.

From that great speech, here is Reagan's personality and principles:

In this present crisis, government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.

So, as we begin, let us take inventory. We are a nation that has a government--not the other way around. And this makes us special among the nations of the Earth. Our government has no power except that granted it by the people. It is time to check and reverse the growth of government, which shows signs of having grown beyond the consent of the governed.

It is no coincidence that our present troubles parallel and are proportionate to the intervention and intrusion in our lives that result from unnecessary and excessive growth of government.

It is my intention to curb the size and influence of the federal establishment and to demand recognition of the distinction between the powers granted to the federal government and those reserved to the states or to the people.

All of us need to be reminded that the federal government did not create the states; the states created the federal government.

Now, so there will be no misunderstanding, it's not my intention to do away with government. It is rather to make it work--work with us, not over us; to stand by our side, not ride on our back. Government can and must provide opportunity, not smother it; foster productivity, not stifle it.

If we look to the answer as to why for so many years we achieved so much, prospered as no other people on earth, it was because here in this land we unleashed the energy and individual genius of man to a greater extent than has ever been done before. Freedom and the dignity of the individual have been more available and assured here than in any other place on earth.

They're individuals and families whose taxes support the government and whose voluntary gifts support church, charity, culture, art, and education. Their patriotism is quiet, but deep. Their values sustain our national life.

It is time to reawaken this industrial giant, to get government back within its means, and to lighten our punitive tax burden. And these will be our first priorities, and on these principles there will be no compromise.
It does require, however, our best effort and our willingness to believe in ourselves and to believe in our capacity to perform great deeds, to believe that together with God's help we can and will resolve the problems which now confront us.

Mr. Rogers, there is absolutely NO WAY you can read either of these speeches and come to your conclusion. The ENTIRE context, in very explicit terms, is that individuals in society are the heroes responsible for social compassion. You left out quotes once again before and after that one line above. NOWHERE in this speech does Reagan ever delineate (as all Republicans and Democrats regrettably do now) a laundry list of things the government is going to do for people. It is what individuals do for others and what people do for themselves.

"We asked things of government that government was not equipped to give. We yielded authority to the National Government that properly belonged to states or to local governments or to the people themselves."

"As we do, we must not repeat the well-intentioned errors of our past. We must never again abuse the trust of working men and women by sending their earnings on a futile chase after the spiraling demands of a bloated federal establishment."

"At the heart of our efforts is one idea vindicated by 25 straight months of economic growth: Freedom and incentives unleash the drive and entrepreneurial genius that are the core of human progress. We have begun to increase the rewards for work, savings, and investment; reduce the increase in the cost and size of government and its interference in people's lives."

"We must simplify our tax system, make it more fair and bring the rates down for all who work and earn. We must think anew and move with a new boldness, so every American who seeks work can find work, so the least among us shall have an equal chance to achieve the greatest things--to be heroes who heal our sick, feed the hungry, protect peace among nations, and leave this world a better place."

"We have already started returning to the people and to state and local governments responsibilities better handled by them. Now, there is a place for the federal government in matters of social compassion. But our fundamental goals must be to reduce dependency and upgrade the dignity of those who are infirm or disadvantaged. And here, a growing economy and support from family and community offer our best chance for a society where compassion is a way of life, where the old and infirm are cared for, the young and, yes, the unborn protected, and the unfortunate looked after and made self-sufficient."

Lee - I don't give a crap about Santa Monica. The point here is you are making stuff up and spewing it as fact. STOP IT NOW. You are making crap up left and right trying to continue some god aweful attempt at justification. You can't make up history and then try to validate it with hindsight. STOP MAKING UP YOUR OWN FACTS. The fight over Clydes was never about style or its looks. People knew from the start what it was meant to be built out as - and they still opposed it. The fight was about noise, traffic, and the type of people it would have drawn in (people fear those who drink alcohol apparently). The biggest concerns were over the outdoor patios, hours of operation, outdoor music, and late night activities. So please - STOP MAKING STUFF UP.

Your patterns of behavior are atrocious.

Lets agree to disagree on this matter. When I listen to his tone, he seems to me to be tempering his vigor about reduction in government. He is saying (IMO) that we should reduce the size of our government, but the government that is left is here to SERVE THE PEOPLE, and not the other way around.

(Oh, and BTW, I'm not a Reagan fan! I'm a fiscal liberal and all over the place with the rest of the issues).

And to get back on the subject, Reagan, through HIS Volunteer Initiative, expected individuals to volunteer and companies to support this effort by allowing their employees time off to serve their communities. That sounds like the government asking corporations to behave with compassion.

BTW, IMO, churches are not necessarily a great place to find compassion. I personally don't remember them, but the Crusades and the Inquisition were not really times filled with empathy.
