I really don't understand what's soooo difficult to understand about a 4 way stop?! I almost got hit TWICE this afternoon going through the Broadlands Blvd & Claiborne intersection - with a cop sitting right there!!!

And tyger31 - you jinxed it. The tow truck was just there taking one car away. Not a major accident, but still another accident...

Me thinks that if you are at fault in an accident at a 4-way stop, you should lose your license for being too stupid to drive.

By the way, they were out there digging again at the Waxpool location....part of their perpetual training program on how to properly use a shovel.

Different issues, and its not only Overland Park, there are areas of Broadlands Blvd west with poles that have been there since summer, and no power.

Not sure of the details, but the traffic lights have power mains running along common land close by. The streetlights basically don't !!

I don't believe it was the traffic lights this time, all that infrastructure is in. Of course, if VDOT did do the inspection the other day, they may have come up with something that needed fixing.

Well .. driving by there and Broadlands Blvd today, turns out there are wires sticking out of junction boxes ... so ... something tells me that what Mark was told about infrastructure, was not necessarily so.

Had a near miss today. I was at the Broadlands/Claiborne intersection going south, about to proceed through the intersection when this SUV blows by me on the right at speed. She did not stop, with her right turn signal blinking all the while.

So, me being who I am, I follow her onto Vestals and into the VM single family section. She's obviously lost so I get her to roll her window down. Shes an older lady, 60s+. I politely tell her that she blew through a major intersection with out stopping. She was shocked and seemed a little clueless. She was profusely apologectic. At that point the encounter ended.

Interesting...where's a sheriff when you need them. Ironically enough - my husband got a ticket for going thru that very same stop sign last month - I was in the car with him....it was late at night and we were both talking and looking out for deer when all of a sudden we both realized, too late, that he went right thru that stop sign. In 26 years of marriage - this was a first! Of course - being the late hour - fortunately there were no other cars around....that is until we saw the flashing lights behind us. Wouldn't you know??? Of course we knew why we were being stopped and were totally at fault. Glad they were out, but where are they when that intersection really needs patroling? I also had a near miss last night coming home from work. Someone didn't wait their turn and came close to hitting me. Gosh I wish that light would get activated SOON!!! :(

Even more interesting is that a few weeks ago, it was my wife's turn to go through the Broadlands/Claiborne intersection when an unmarked sheriff's car went through the intersection without stopping. When she beeped the horn, he turned on his emergency lights and kept going. So, having a sheriff in the area isn't necessarily a good thing. Had it been me at the intersection, I would have followed to get the license and called the non-emergency number to report it.

Cops do that all the time, just like they speed when not in Code 3.

And it's not like they can use bad weather as an excuse. Sure, there's been some wind and rain but the majority of the time it's been fairly nice for January.

" Tomorrow, tomorrow, I love ya, tomorrow, its only a day away ... "

now start singing that each day the lights don't work.

If you look at both the Broadlands, and Waxpool lights, there is still something missing.

The controllers have not yet been placed, they cannot be placed until Dominion-VA Power runs the power to those locations.

FWIW ... if you were in the military, you'd understand:

its the old 'Hurry up and wait".

I am sure that light was deemed critical, as it should have been.

I remember being at that intersection about 4 years ago, right before they started clearing the land for Brambleton when a Geo Metro ran the 2 way stop at what I reckon to be over 60 mph. That intersection was bad before the development.

However, I would not kid yourself in thinking the county planners or VDOT do anything with just safety in mind, $$$ and politics hold equal or greater measure on the process.

    Neil,

I few weeks ago I commented on the street lights not working at Overland Park entrances, and Mark Holidays estimates of being lit about a year ago. You said you would check at the January meeting.... do you have a realistic update from Mark?

    Thanks
