Sorry, didn't order the Caesar and didn't witness any at other tables. However, in that category, the Bananas Foster (aka Bananas flambe) is made at your table and is well done. My wife and I recommend it.

Since this thread has kind of evolved about good eateries in general, I wanted to put in a plug for the Eiffel Tower in Leesburg on Loudoun Street. We love the ambiance, the food, the service...all exquisite and first class. In fact, this is a favorite for my spouse to take official and non-official out of country guests.

The owner is from France as well as several of the staff. The food and its presentation is wonderful. If you elect to go, make sure to eat lightly during the day and plan for a full five course meal!

I won't comment on price since everyones view on what is reasonable or what is expensive is different. What I will say is that if one plans on a full meal with bottle of wine or their own special blend champagne ****tail, it will be about $140 for two.

    Bon Appetite!

I have not been yet, but I did read that their caesar salads are prepared table side.

I've noticed a tent outside of the restaurant. Are they getting ready for outdoor dining already?

My guess Carol is that the first four letters of the word is on the naughty word list ... even though in context is isn't....

    Technology is fun :)

tvh - they are working on the fountain. I did talk to the owner over the weekend and his outdoor tables, chairs & umbrellas are on order and he said they'd be here soon.

I'm sure you are quite right...I'd be mortified if anyone thought I was trying to get by with naughty words! [:I]

Geez...we're getting as bad as Saudi Arabia now with editing...Some cancer support group forums were blocked recently due to the mention of the word breast! [8D]

We're not editing anything in your post, Carol. This is a system automated process. There are a list of 'naughty' words in the system database and anywhere there's a match, the system replaces the word with '*' for each letter. The current application isn't smart enough to understand when certain letter combinations occur within words. It's just the price we pay for this type of functionality. Now, let's move on and talk about restaurants instead of focusing on something as petty as an automated naughty-word filter...

To make everyone happy, I'll remove that particular word from the list.

I too enjoy fine cocktails. :D

    Thanks.

We've also been to Eiffel Tower in Leesburg and really enjoyed it. It was quite awhile ago, though. Good advice, Carol. We need to go back again...

My spouse and I enjoy finding good local eateries to give our patronage. We'll enjoy the occasional jaunt into the city but what's nice, is that you really don't have to do that anymore to find fine cuisine.

Another one of our favorites are to find the little known by great family owned diners. I wish I could find a book which identifies great roadside diners throughout the US.

One thing I miss though is that you rarely see the homey restaurant here that is operated out of a home. This is so typical once one is abroad and gives a totally new atmosphere. By comparison many restaurants here seem sterile.

    Carol,
There's a great book of road-side food (not just diners) by Jane and Michael Stern called Roadfood. They even have a web site. Their site happens to list one of my favorite stands: Walter's Hot Dogs in Mamaroneck, NY. I grew up eating them and they are the best hot dogs.

As for diners, Bob and Edith's in Arlington is great. I prefer the newer location to the original because it's less smoky.

My spouse and I tried out '321' last night. We had a wonderful time there. We enjoyed the ambience, the cuisine and the warm welcome we received from all of the staff.

Michael the bartender has been in the business for quite some time and has many original concoctions in his repetiore...and also very knowledgable on wines. We followed his recommendations and enjoyed each and every one.

Our server Gerard made us feel right at home and was able to respond to all of our questions about the menu and how the food was prepared. We really appreciated receiving a small appetizer compliments of the chef as we gave our order.

My spouse and I both had the duck which was outstanding. It was not sweet as so many restaurants tend to serve it. The portions are also exactly the right size. Additionally we viewed the "steak cart" which is brought to your table with the steaks of the day. If you are not already aware, you select your cut and how much you want. It is sold by weight.

Of course after reading posts here we had to have the bananas foster prepared tableside. One must make sure to leave room for dessert!

Chris, one of the co-owners sat with us for awhile and he is a true professional and dedicated towards customer service and making his restaurant a success.

There's no point in going into price since that is an individual issue on what one considers expensive or reasonable. We felt we got equal service and quality for our money and have no complaints.
