As I was stopped in the back-up there at 10am today, I had the grand idea to run out and take pics of the sign. Until I noticed that my phone was at home in the charger. D'oh!

This morning crews were placing barricades in the median so some kind of road works seems to be coming soon.

I'm guessing they are going to extend the left turn lanes?

I think at some point they are planning to close the first median west of LCP. That would stop all the U-Turns that people make when the miss the turn from Waxpool to LCP Southbound.

In other words, no more direct median access to the storage facility/restaurant row. Have to go in through the Embassy Suites entrance (where a light will be installed eventually). That's what I remember...not sure if that's what's going on. I believe it was part of a study done to improve Waxpool traffic.

PS - anyone else think the "Loudoun County Parkway" is too long to say/write every time? I think we should just call it "The LoCo" . Eh?

I stopped today to have a close look at the sign in the median. It is the kind of sign we all have in our office somewhere that states your rights as a worker, and so on. There is also a poster about it being a federally-related construction project and as such there are certain guaranteed minimum wages. This was followed by a listing of job types and wages.

Only one document had any info that directly related to this project it said:
Waxpool Road/Loudoun County Parkway Intersection Improvement
    Design Build Project
    VDOT Project No.: 0625-053-972,P101, C501
    SCC Project No, 161086

I took pictures of some of the documents on the sign board, but none of them are anything special.

So it could "improve" the Waxpool / Loudoun intersection? Lots of bollards gone up (not sure if that's the right term, that's what we call them in Britain)

I would advise everyone to avoid this intersection at all costs for the next four months or so. Today, they took away an Eastbound lane and traffic was backed up in the middle of the day. It's not going to be pretty.

I concur; It took me an extra 20 minutes over my normal time to get through there today. Once school starts, it's going to be insane...

You can goto shellhorn (near home depot) and jump on LCP and head up to waxpool from there. That way you avoid the conjestion it will cause in the morning. On the way home, there is little choice except to stick it out or head all the way to Rt7 and back down (yuck).

Adventurous types coming from the south can get to Belmont Ridge various ways.

Hopefully the work will be done during non rush-hour periods. That doesn't help people like me on Waxpool during the day, though.

If they'd just move that darn airport we could have all sorts of east/westbound options!!!!!
