    Re: Comcast Outage

It looks like all the channels are out for me. Internet is working fine but no TV. It's a good thing we were planning to watch a DVD tonight

I've no idea but I can't get a signal on either of our TV's with a cable box or the one getting just the very basic analog feed (no box).

    Re: Comcast Outage

That must be a fairly serious issue. I can't remember the last time I experienced an outage longer than a couple hours.

Our HD channels aren't working properly yet. The channel banner doesn't show up, the picture is strangely letterboxed and you can't bring up the channel guide. The analog and digital channels are ok though.

Unplug the power to the cable box and plug it back in that might work.

I'm still not getting HD channels and many of the digital channels...does anyone know what caused this outage? I know Verizon is digging all over the area, but I figure if they'd cut the line, we'd have no tv, internet, or phone...

By the way, not good for Comcast to have this disruption of service just before Verizon begins signing up for their new FiOS service. I for one will not hesitate to ditch Comcast for Verizon...been looking forward to it for over a year now :cheerleader:

I am experiencing another outage (cable, phone, and internet) Anyone else having problems? I have someone coming out to the house at 6pm, but I have a feeling I'm not the only one out.

We are still experiencing Comcast issues. They came out last week, tested the signal and it appeared to be ok. They are suppose to be here over the next 3hr window, so we'll see what happens.

    Example 1:
Local channels clarity is poor ("snow/noise" in the picture) Reminds me of the antenna days :)
    300 - HD HBO - works fine
301 - HBO - does not come up.
    302 - HBO2 - does not come up, etc.

Same for some other HD vs non-HD version of channels. They are on different frequencies so we still have a signal issue of some sort.

    Example 2:
Cable modem gets a signal through the morning, off through mid-day, back on around 8:15-8:30pm

Something else we've noticed, just a TV hooked up to the wall (no cable box) the "extra" channels are no longer showing up. 4.1 was the HD or digital version of local Channel 4; 4.3 was the Channel 4 weather all the time channel. 5.1 was the HD/digital for Fox 5, etc. All of the local channels had "extra" channels but they are no longer showing up.

Our issues are very similar to yours.

    1) Our phone has no dial tone sometimes and when it does sometimes we can't dial out and sometimes we can but the signal is very scratchy

    2) Internet was not working at all yesterday, but last night I did manage to pull down 39 kbps (worse than a modem)

    3) Cable channels under 100 are working but very, very scratchy. No digital, HD, or any channel above 99 are working at all.

A tech came out yesterday (I wish I was home) and my mother-in-law directed them to our cable modem where the tech proceded to unhook a TV and remove a splitter in order to give the phone enough signal strength to work...ahhh the problem is fixed and everything is OK says the tech. I come home and find no TV service in my office, but the phone is working (barely) again and we have 39 kbps download speed. :lame: I called back when I got home to complain again and now we have to wait until tonight to get another tech out.

Ok - here are a few things we found out today:

    1) The run from the box on the street is longer than it should have been when the cable was originally installed on our street, so the signal was boosted and they are going to see what else they can do. If not resolved, they will run a larger cable from the box at the neighbor's house to our house, so less signal loss occurs.

    2) If you have more than 4 TVs Comcast won't guarantee the signal quality (something to that effect.

    3) As the move to digital continues, homes that happen to have splitters sending signals to multiple rooms, will see quality drop or even picture loss, as we did.

LESSON: If your contractor put splitters in the walls and you don't know it, you may need to do some work between now and Feb. '09. We have a bunch of TVs around the house and we found splitters all over, ugh! The quad and tri-splitters really drop the signal strength and hurt picture quality. Also, they mentioned the "cheap" ones from Radio Shack can short out - not recommended. We got the signal up some by adjusting the type of splitter used (higher quality) and added an amplifier on the one section of the house and now the non-HD HBOs, and others are working good.

    4) Cable modem - still shut off at 10:15am and came back on at 8:15pm tonight. We'll see what happens tomorrow.

FIX: add a passive amplifier. Passive will allow send/receive to the cable boxes.

I'll send an update when we know more info.
