You know ... with that 8 mil, HCA can buy one of those areas right next to the relocated Belmont Ridge, on one of those big sod farms, and build right next to Brambleton.

Then they can sell the land here in Broadlands, and use that to provide improvements to 659 so people can make it down to that location !!

It should work both ways, right ?

Good to see you are now acknowledging the value of $8,000,000.

NeilZ, amazing: just what some supervisors (including Snow) and some Broadlands residents have been saying all along--turn the Broadlands site around and use the profit to buy a better site in a better location.

AFGM and Sox, playing the "Snow only cares about South Riding" game would be funny if you could come down here and listen to the folks who say "Why does he appoint Ashburn people to this or that committee?" Everyone has their own issue, and people in all areas of the district who only see their issue get exercised when they don't get primacy on their own. Some of the HOA meetings down here are hilarious when you get people who have been here a couple years and have no clue what a district is, how the schools work, or anything else. They just want their _____ and they should have it right now!

This district is the one that will see the most dynamic activity, because this is where the growth is happening NOW. To balance all the needs and wants of the separate communities is not going to please everyone, and never will.

AFGM, you can play whatever game you want, because it is apparent that you are a political activist behind your "plausible deniability" Suffice it to say that if Snow did everything every South Riding resident demanded because he belongs to the same HOA, you would have much more to scream about, and with cause.

Question for all, and you need not reply immediately: if there is nothing on Route 50 throughout all of Loudoun and never ever will be, why do so many big-ticket non-profit special interest groups spend so much time and moneymoneymoney working against any service or infrastructure improvements here? Wouldn't it be self-evident to the point of being non-profitable in terms of time and money to even notice the issue, if the corridor is such a non-issue?

A lot of people "protest too much".

So, what's in it for them? Beyond the usual soapbox rants that have already been performed ad nauseam?

Better for whom? The residents of Loudoun or for HCA? I am sure HCA has done their homework and determined that the best bang for the buck is in Broadlands.

They ARE a for-profit company and they should be allowed to build where ever they choose, with all approvals and such.

Yes, they ARE a for-profit company...just like Greenvest, and Van Metre, and Toll. Should development companies be allowed to build on their own land "with all approvals and such"? There's the rub, isn't it?

    HCA isn't a development company...they are a hospital corporation. A bit of a difference.

Barbara...are you a little surprised that Inova doesn't want to build on Rt. 50? Are you a little surprised that they have said it wouldn't even be a thought for another 10 years?

Before you go on about stuff...that is what they are saying when you call and ask. This has nothing to do w/HCA or any other hospital corporation. This is Inova saying this. Just wondering what you think about that.

I haven't called and asked, but you pique my curiousity. Before I do, my thoughts ever since people have been pointing out the Inova pre-merger report, which was issued during a time when they were not only in competition with HCA but also LHI over COPNs (which were magically reversed), is that of course that report indicates nothing on 50.

My other thought is that it sounds a lot like the folks who move in and say "I was told that there would definitely be a ________, and a ________." The people who sit at the front desk or answer the phones don't always have all the info. Are they telling people at the Broadlands sales offices yet that there might be a hospital there? I seem to remember vigorous discussion about that.

No, I'm not surprised, if all they had to go on was the "smart" growth dope from the last BoS. Funny how the COG data in the rte 50/beast article shows massive existing and continuing growth, but of course that article was about a different service improvement to be suppressed.

Actually, this is calling Inova and asking them directly. This has nothing to do with the HOA.

Nice try but I'm a little bit smarter then to take someone else's word!

Nice try Sox, but I mean WHO at Inova? Did the CEO pick up the phone? Usually trying to gain info by phone from a large official entity means a series of calls, and asking the same question multiple times as you are routed from department to department following the buck.

In the days before the merger, any number of questions received an official answer that didn't tell all. All I'm saying is that whatever they are saying on the phone might not be all of all of the information.

Case in point: before Tom D'Allesandro showed up at the press conference in the tent with Scott York announcing the done deal, what did Terrabrook tell your community if people asked what was going to be on the property? If Inova/LHI are in negotiation for land, I doubt the details will be standard phone fare until any deal is consummated up or down.

IOW, I would bet most of us don't know all of what's going on. Me included.

I would agree with you except......
The property you refer to is not zoned appropriately.
The property is not for sale.
The property has no water/sewer service which means the state will not issue a COPN.
Can all of these things be overcome? Most likely, but it would take years to do. I would prefer to have another hospital now.

I believe in a presentation to the BOS by Inova/Loudoun, the subject of when a hospital might be built on the RTe 50 corridor, they were very guarded in their response, but finally admitted to a time frame of 10 years or more.

An interesting thought about which location would serve western Loudoun better, Broadlands or Rte 50. About 75% of the population of western Loudoun lives along, or north, of the Rte 7 corridor. These people would have much faster access to a hospital at Broadlands than on Rte 50.

There's no doubt that the Rte 50 corridor is growing fast and now has the greatest potential for future growth. The land in the northern half of the Dulles District is pretty much all spoken for while Dulles South has huge growth potential in the "transition zone" area. This is one of the reasons that I do not support the fear that if BRMC is approved, a third hospital along Rte 50 will not be approved.

Actually Barbara I called after the merger. No I didn't speak to the CEO but didn't speak to the switch board operator either. What is it with you? Nobody ever has the correct info except for you. First it was HCA now its the employees at INOVA...you amaze me!!! haha

Why don't you do your own calling and lets see what you come up with. Then we'll discuss.

Sox, show me where I said I was the only one with correct info. I think I said we none of us have all the info, me included. And I don't think any of us will until it all plays out, and maybe not all of it even then.

Since you are smarter than to take it on a phone call to a sales office (and I am not disputing that), can I have the privilege of not taking someone's nickname posting on a message board as the end-all/be-all? You talked to someone who was neither the CEO nor the switchboard operator--that narrows it down! Seriously, I may take you up on your offer about discussion after I call and root my way through the system to ferret out the best info various departments over there are willing to convey. But I may not devote the morning or two to the effort first thing after the holiday weekend. Hope you're having a good one!

Half of it is, and half of it isn't. And that was just ONE of the points I mentioned.

    K ... devil's advocate here:

The property is not for sale.
I have no idea if the property is up for sale or not considering there was no property or location mentioned. It was just suggested that they could look around and see what could be available.

The property has no water/sewer service which means the state will not issue a COPN.
Brambleton is headed that way with plenty of water and sewer connections. They can take that $8 mil and hookup ...

Can all of these things be overcome? Most likely, but it would take years to do. I would prefer to have another hospital now.
And how fast do you really expect them to get through all the court dates that will eventually appear when the BoS turns them down ??

Faster than trying to find a piece of property that is of suitable size for sale (and just think what the price would be if you tried to buy it when it wasn't listed for sale), then waiting however many years for water and sewer, then refiling another COPN, then having to fight the same battle with the NIMBY's in that area (because by then, homes will be built up all around the area, and they will fight it whether a hospital already owned the property or not.) My guess is the ensuing lawsuits would be faster.
Oh, and I'm discounting the fact that NO hospital company's business model shows that area as suitable for a hospital for 10-15 years.
I'm not in the business of operating a hospital. Are you?

I don't think it is a foregone conclusion that the BOS will turn down BRMC on the next vote.

With that said, I am sure the Court will be involved. It just may be INOVA bring the suit not HCA.
