LOL! Could it be Verizon's way of 'retaliating' because part of our community is owned by OpenBand... Hmmmmmmm..... They've been promising us DSLAMS since 1999, I'm not holding my breath anymore with anything related to Verizon.

Will someone clear this up, I thought we already have fiber on our streets here in Broadlands North. If so, all Verizon has to do is run it to the home? Or, if we don't have fiber on the street, why don't we have DSL? How can we not have either as a choice?

The long hauls into the distribution points are fiber.. but its copper to the houses. The fiber portion to the distribution point is the hurdle for DSL. The copper to the house (from the distribution point) is the hurdle for FIOS.

So yes, we don't have a choice for either until they either put remote DSLAMs into the distribution points (which they haven't done) or run the fiber for FIOS.

So the fiber is on the street and Verizon just has to go from the street to the house? That is a short distance, so why is there all the gloom and doom about how much rock we have in the Broadlands and we'll never see FIOS? Lets stop agreeing with Verizon that we all built our homes on impassable terrain and get another high speed provider. Or am I missing something?

No, the distribution points. Those large tan boxes you see sportatically around the neighborhood (like the one near vestals gap and claiborne on the north side of vestals). I don't know if they would have to dig up to those points as well.. but its fiber to those points which is what prevents us from getting DSL.

Well.. we can't 'get another provider' ourselves.. they must come to us and foot the bill. Unless you are sitting on millions of dollars you are willing to just start a new company with? :)

What I have heard for whatever reason they don't want to use the existing fiber and plan to lay all new fiber. Something about it is just easier to start from from nothing then deal with the problems the existing might have. Also it is not their fiber.

I have currently been living in Broadlands since 2003 and just upgraded my house. When visiting the site of the new home on Mount Auburn (of Broadlands and Glebe) my new neighbor just told me that he saw the Verizon FIOS guys installing fiberoptics and they said that it will be up in some areas in 2-4 weeks! I called to confirm this and the girl on the phone stated she can not guarantee it will be ready in 2 weeks but they are working on it

The good news is that it will be here soon. Unfortunately I will have to go 2-4 weeks without high speed internet as Comcast still has not performed the site survery they promised me two weeks ago :(

Anyone have any other suggestions for high speed in broadlands north? Anyone try the one from dish network?

Yes I am talking about Broadlands Blvd and Glebe. The name of the street I will be on in called Mount Auburn (It shows up on google maps). It is very close to the Clydes in Broadlands north. Just hope they don't have any hiccups and they get it done sooner rather than later.

Verizon posted this for April in Loudoun: does it seem accurate?

    Alexandras Grove Drive
    Cornerpost Square
    Five Oaks
    Huntland Court
    Loudon County Pkwy
    Meadowsweet Court
    Middlebury Street
    Postrail Square
    Sharpskin Island Square
    South Riding
    Summerall Drive
    Victoria Falls Square
    Wildbrook Court

Of course it's close enough to May now ... :p

Looks like Broadlands is out of luck in May. Who would have thought?

It seems like they are almost going 'around' Broadlands! Has Verizon communicated at all with our HOA about a deployment plan?

Any update on this. They told my neight a couple of weeks ago that it would be ready in a month in Broadlands North, but I really doubt it.

    thanks,
