    Re: New Trash Service

Did anyone have their old trash bin picked up by New Vision ? Did they already start in any section of Broadlands ?

Yes, several sections have been picked up. We do not have a section by section schedule which is why we are telling residents to leave the receptacles out through the end of March.

If we have both the new and old cans which one do we use for our trash, since we don't know when the old will be picked up .

New Visions will pick up their cans - some have already been picked up - between today and the end of March. If they have already taken you receptacle and Patriot has delivered a new one you may use it. If you still have a New Visions can continue using it through March 30th. Patriot begins picking up the trash on April 2nd.

    Re: New Trash Service

Are we allowed to write our house number on the new bins and/or cans? Did this last time so we could know easily which was ours.

Also, if we use a separate bin for newspapers/magazines do we still need to bundle them with twine or paper bags? New Vision collected them this way and it was much more convenient for us.

    Thanks!

    Re: New Trash Service

The new bins have a number already printed on them. That is you way of id'ing your trash can/bin. Since the cans are already black I think you would have a hard time writing anything else on them. You should write these numbers down and keep them in a safe place.
As for the newspapers, if you read Patriots guidelines it states Newspapers and magazines should be bundled and placed in paper grocery bags or tied with heavy twine.

see page 6/7 of the March newsletter or pages 10/11 of the April issue for more information

We tape the instructions from the garbage companies to the garage wall right above the bins and trash can. Good place to write the number down and a great way to remember what you can and can't do.

It wasn't clear to me in the newsletter article...there doesn't seem to be mention of the type of plastics that can be recycled. With the old service, they would only take 1s and 2s. Is there no restriction on the plastics for our new service? Can we recycle 5s and others?

I called them with the same ??
They do take the 5 and 6's as well as the egg crates suchs as the basic and Egglands. So the all the dairy plastics we've been saving up...yougurt, sour creas, cottage cheese, pringles snack pakcs, and even the packing for my prescription eye drops will be recycled!

That's great! I don't think that was very clear in their instructions in the newsletter. For plastics they just list "plastic bottles".

I'm going to need another recycling bin...

I just spoke with them again. My inquiry was about the need to bag or tie with twine our newspapers and magazines. The nice lady on the phone said that was not really the case, they don't really pay attention to that. Just to make sure to put the heavy magazines on top and then the papers won't move out of the boxes.

Has anyone inquired about larger recycling bins with lids? For those of us who do recycle, the small bins are not enough. And putting them out on windy days just results in recyclables becoming litter (kinda defeats the purpose).

Patriot does use them. Please call them at 703-257-7100. They may provide them at an additional charge.

I heard Rubbermaid makes storage bins with attached covers. I cannot find them.

Also, the question about writing house numbers on bins or toters has come up alot. The toters have a serial number yes - but the recycling bins DO NOT. At any rate, I want the ability to identify my toter or bin at a glance - (well it's really for the neigbors) so we bought our house numbers and affixed them to our bins.

This is actually the kind New Vision supplied us (sans lid). You can buy them at Target.

I forgot to put my New Vision recycling bin out for them to take yesterday. What can I do with it?

New Visions may still pick these up...if not, either mark it as trash and put out with the garbage or continue to use it for recycles or some other use.
