Got a flyer last night to upgrade for $5 more for 4000/512....

    2004-11-23 20:01:47 EST: 4394 / 564
Your download speed : 4500060 bps, or 4394 kbps.
    A 549.3 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 577756 bps, or 564 kbps.

    niiiice :)

Of course I mostly did it for the doubling of upload speeds since I have VOIP, etc. Loving it so far!

I was surfing adelphia.net looking for some info and came across this add about 3 days ago. I called in about it and they said yes, it was only $5 more a month......
$5 more a month to go from 2700/216 to 4800/580, it was a no brainer for me. I havent had time to enjoy it yet, but man, its almost pushing 5 meg on the d/l side for me and 600 on the upload....:)
The upload speeds is the primary reason I did it too, I upload a lot of data to my servers, takes a long time with 256, this will be a nice change.

interesting.. $60 for everyone.. even if you have cable.. so must be 'breaks' built into the advantage packs.

Right now I'm still on the $35 special.. gonna hate when that runs out :(

    tvl,

I called yesterday too, and was quoted $17/month. What I was told is that since we have their cable and Internet service it's more. Apparently the $5 upgrade is for those that only have Adelphia's Internet service. Is that what they told you as well?

    thanks!

Yes, and it's 4000/512, not 4800/580. But I'm paying $26.95 for 3000/256 (only have basic cable).

Yup. Basically, there's no discount if you're a cable customer.

I'll switch over to the Premier next week when I give them back my digital tv hardware, I've had it with the quality of the locals on Adelphia.

Can you explain what you mean by 'quality of the locals' ??

This is correct. I only have adelphia internet, no other cable service and was paying $55/mo. The upgrade for me was only $5. Well worth it for me.

Their "posted" speeds are 4000/512 , but in reality I can download at a steady 5100 w/no hiccups (I think boomer also had higher than "posted" speeds), havent confirmed steady upload speeds as of yet. The premier service may not make as much sense for those who have adelphia cable compared to those who dont. It may not be worth the extra money to them. In my case, I had no package deal and the premier would only run me $5 more....

The local channels (4, 5, 7, 9) all have some degree of static, 4 is the worst. It's been getting worse for a few months, and their support wants to run a cable from the box to the house again (that's been done 3 times now) or start putting new wholes in my walls blaming the wire runs from the builder. Considering they were all file for the first 4 years, and all took a turn for the worse at once, I'm not sure I believe it's my existing wiring. They main run from the outside of the house to the central box in the basement has been tested a few times also showing no problems.

I've not seen that issue here ... it does sound localized.

Sorry, hit 'post' a little to quick.

A few of our neighbors have the same issues with the quality of the locals also, but we haven't had any luck getting Adelphia to take a good look at the local cable box.

Last time I had a tech out, the mainly focused on the builtin wiring system that Bell Atlantic (at the time) provided, since replace that would be on my $. I tired (without luck) to point out that the issue could be with the local cable box since my neighbors had also commented, but the tech seemed to have no interest. :(

For the channels we get, and wanting more HD going forward, DIRECTV seems to be the cheaper route going forward when compared to Adelphia.

Forgot to ask, which site do you use for speed detect? I don't get anything close to the non-premier speeds during peek hours. But I do ok during non-peek.

If you really want to pursue it .. I'd get the neighbors, pile them into the car, and head to the Adelphia local office and let them know directly, rather than through the 800 number.

FWIW ... I'm sticking with Adelphia, partly because I've not be having problems and their HD rollout, while slower, is ongoing; plus if Time Warner buys the local area, it should get better.

Neil, you brought up a good point. Has anyone heard anything else about Adelphia being sold? My honey and I both had Comcast before we moved here and they we SOOO much better than Adelphia. It's a little amazing.

FWIW, we haven't seen many issues with the local channels.

I signed up for the service this AM. I'm getting 3.4M-3.9M (it's 9AM, should be non-peak) and I'm getting 525K-560K pretty consistently. I'm using dslreports and trying a couple of different servers to test speeds. For $5 (I've got satellite TV), it's worth it for the uploads alone.
