There's a Whole Foods in Reston in the Plaza America shopping center. Take the Toll Road to Reston Parkway - go left at the light, cross over the toll road and take the first right (Sunset Hills I think), go through a couple lights and Plaza America is on your right.

I, too, am originally from the Buffalo, NY area and am a big Wegmans fan! You can't beat their stores. Whenever I visit Buffalo, I always made a trip to Wegmans, now it's right in our own backyard! I'm so happy they opened a store down here, what would be even better is if they sell some items that you can only get in Buffalo, like Webers Mustard and Salen hot dogs! I'm sure they'll do well! My nephew is an assistant manager at Wegmans in Buffalo and he is down here for the opening and he said he's never seen an opening like the one down here as far as crowds and excitement! But - of course - they're all over the place up there - so it's no big deal when a new one opens like it is here.

I made my first visit to Wegmans this past Monday after work. It was cool seeing all the items that they sold and made there. I got some premade sushi there which was very good. Also bought some milk which tasted good.

I did have mixed reviews though...

Sadly I've been unimpressed so far with their quality of the two items that I bought. I tried their frozen Wegman's brand buffalo chicken wings which they claimed were hot/spicy. They were far from hot and spicy and pretty bland flavor. I also bought their Wegman's brand prosciutto meat which had a slight chemical taste to it.

I know a lot of people really like Wegman's out there. From a taste/quality standpoint, what are some other items that you might suggest I try?

Aside from the sushi and milk, I haven't been that impressed.

Uh-oh. HOW DARE YOU CRITICIZE WEGMANS? Stand by for an electronic onslaught from all of the ex-New Yorker "Wegmans Supporters" in this forum!

(For the record, I have not yet been to the new store, but I find the loyalty of Wegman's fan base to be both refreshing and a bit disturbing...)

I agree. I've yet to go there, but, it's just a grocery store folks. Just because it's a familiar face from an old place doesn't make it much different from what we have around here. I'll reserve my final opinion until the dust dies down and I can get in there and check prices.

However, i can somewhat understand the fanaticism. If we were to get a Krystal up here I'd be overjoyed. :) (even tho it's horrible for you and the food is nasty at times...but it reminds me of home)

Well, if you REALLY wanna represent the south, there'd have to be a Piggly Wiggly and an A&P here! :D

I have not been to the new Wegmans yet...
It is food, people, just food. Get a grip.
WesGurney, was the milk better than, say, Safeway's milk??

I can't believe people were lined up outside the door on the opening day at 5:30 a.m.!!! That is unbelievable. I have yet to go to Wegmans and I work right across the street! Don't know when I'll get there...not a high priority to me. It IS just a grocery store! I get up to Buffalo often enough and can shop there without the crowds. I wonder if Harris Teeter will have the same kind of opening when they open in Brambleton.......

Honestly, I went this weekend and I'm not convinced I should go out of my way and deal with the HUGE crowds. It wasn't that much cheaper to me (specials were great prices I'll admit), the prepared foods & seafood/meats looked really nice but the other grocery isles weren't all that fabulous to me. Didn't have everything I needed.

    It's fun to visit but I think I'll stick w/Safeway for a while. :-D

I agree that the crowds are crazy- but it will die down. The coolest thing about this store is that yuou can assemble your shopping list online- you make your list and it prints out in AISLE ORDER!!!! Saved me some serious time in there- considering the place is mammoth.

Once Harris Teeter opens and the Wegmans in Fairfax, we will see things calm down.

Ok...until the crowds die down and you can actually go in and "peruse" the store properly it's hard for anyone not familiar with the Wegman's chain of supermarkets to get a real "feel" for the store. Yes, we "upstate New Yorker transplants are a bit crazy when it comes to this store. It's actually a sick cult-like following. [}:)] And in answer to many of the prior posts...No, it actually isn't JUST FOOD...it's a whole lot more. You need about two hours, DON'T go on a weekend people, no kids and you'll be amazed at the quality and amazing variety you find.
As far as some of the posts claiming that it's "completely unlike Whole Foods". Well, that's somewhat correct but also incorrect. It's too massive to be compared to Whole Foods, BUT, the amount of organic items in Wegman's is comparable to Whole Foods...obviously the big crowds made it difficult to completely check out all the store has to offer. Having one of their biggest and most successful stores in Ithaca, NY, the organic and Vegan capital of the free world, Wegman's has ALWAYS been aware of and catered to that kind of customer base. Any type of poultry, beef, lamb, pork, etc..that one wants that is organic, is either available or will be made available upon your request. Remember, Wegman's is known for their customer service and will do ANYTHING to please you...which is why they are the BEST grocery store in the nation.
Bye bye Giant, happy to not have to shop at Safeway again, it's only "Weggies" for me!!!

You also cannot shop after work during the week, it's also crazy. I have been twice at 4:30pm Tues & Fri. and it was nuts. The good news was I did not have to wait in any kind of line -- the bad news is that you can't really shop the store because of the massive amount of people. I cannot shop during the week during work hours as I work too far away. I have not tried at like 10pm at night, has anyone gone late and is their marketplace open that late?

My mother went at midnight on a Friday and said it was too crowded for her.

As for me, it's not too terrible since it's convenient for me. You just have to go slow to navigate around. The check-out lines are always good.

They also have a Wegman's kids room which has coloring, PS2, TV with videos, climb-on playground, books... It's for ages 3-8 and the kid must be potty-trained. My daughter (age 4) liked it a lot.
