What would we need to do to get large "SLOW children at play" signs at the end of each street?

Do we really need signs for the mentally challenged children?

Wow, trying to be funny or offensive? I know you succeeded in one of them...

I think signs would help. Nobody will agree to add and pay for speed bumps.

Not to beat a dead horse from another thread a long time ago, but if you need signs warning about kids playing then you need to take parenting classes to learn to keep your kids out of the streets. Streets are for cars, not playing.

I happen to have someone on my street that lets her kids (and the ones she watches) play in the street all the time. Most irresponsible and annoying.

brim, you have kids? Do they cross the street? This road is a long curve and even if you look both ways a car approaching fast is a danger. My child doesn't play in the street.

Sorry that kids being kids annoys both of you....kinda' feel sorry that your childhoods may have been bad.

no ... its dangerous .. they happen to play on a blind curve. I have a kid .. I "get" kids ... I like kids ... I mostly like them to stay alive and out of the way of cars..... sorry you feel they are entitled to run wild wherever they please and endanger themselves.

I know we are off topic here but I have the same concern. Several kids play in our street. Their parents even roll the basketball hoop out to the street for them. It's not a main road but it is a through street and sees it's share of cars. I have seen cars come around the corner and slam on the breaks on more than one occasion. It's only a matter of time before one of the kids gets picked off. Kids are kids, they don't know any better but their parents should.
And when they're not in the street they're in my yard killing my bushes which is a whole different peeve.

Congratulations, your child doesn't play in the street. Unfortunately a lot of other kids do.

And no, I don't have kids but what does that matter? That wouldn't change the fact that streets are for cars, not children. If I did have kids I guarantee they wouldn't be playing in the street, crossing the street without an adult, leaving carts in parking lots, or dinging up cars. 'Kids being kids' does not include playing in the street, that's called 'Parents being irresponsible'.

allowing them to play in the street in dangerous. Letting them do it under the guise of "kids will be kids" is irresponsible. I'm not going to fight... if you want to let your kids run in the streets, go right ahead.

Great, then we agree. And that is exactly why I think a sign at the ends of the street would be abad idea.

I played in the street when I was growing up and we didn't have any problems. Where else are you supposed to play street hockey? =)

FWIW .. the parent who puts the basketball hoop along the curb or in the street is violating VDOT regulations. And if its a thru street, not a cul-de-sac .. well ... lets hope that nothing serious happens.

Ok, what do we do about those people that park over the sidewalk trying to cram too many cars in their driveway? This frustrates me, having to navigate a stroller or wagon around it and into the street. It's going to get worse too, with kids on bikes and more people out walking.

I'm not sure ... I would think there is a law about blocking sidewalks, the same as that requiring that snow and ice be removed after a snowfall. I suspect a search of Loudoun or Virginia laws would find something.

Brim - I agree with you completely. My "kid" is now 23 and he was NOT allowed to play in the street, AT ALL. It boggles my mind that parents allow this. There are plenty of open areas, elementary schools with basektball hoops where they can go. What kills me is when you come down the street and act like you're NOT supposed to be on the road. My next door neighbor practices soccer in the street and puts on cones!!! Now I realize back yards are that big, however, go to a school or an open area, keep out of the street!
