In light of this tragedy today I applaud Volvo Nut's persistence and vigilance.

Ashburn Woman Killed In Ryan Road Wreck

Mar 11, 2005 -- An Ashburn woman was killed this morning after a vehicle crashed into the back of her car on Ryan Road, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office stated.
Kim Renee Parnell, 46, died at the scene of the wreck, which occurred at about 7:30 a.m. on eastbound Ryan Road, near Forest Run Drive.

Sheriff’s office spokesman Kraig Troxell said that a 2002 Cadillac Escalade, driven by Ingrid Fulton, 42, of Ashburn, pulled out from Forest Run Drive and struck Parnell’s 1994 Jeep Wrangler from behind.

The jeep flipped and landed on its top off Ryan Road. Parnell’s son, 17, was a front-seat passenger in the vehicle and was not injured. He was wearing a seat belt, but his mother was not.

Troxell said that Fulton is facing charges. She had two 7 year-old boys in the vehicle who were also not injured. All three were wearing their seatbelts.

This is the second fatality on Loudoun's roadways in 2005. At this time last year there had been a total of eight traffic-related fatalities.

    Sunnydog,
The accident was near Brambleton. There has been increased police enforcement of speeding in the area of the accident today. It's a shame that it took this tragedy to bring increased enforcement.

Here's an idea: if you think that a concerned citizen's posting about reckless driving is a waste of space, then don't waste more space by arguing the point.

This forum is a valuable tool for sharing information and it is the perfect medium for alerting residents of problem drivers. Frankly, I'd like to see space on the homepage of the HOA site that identifies reckless driver license plates.

Driving is not a right. It's a privilege. Do it right and you have nothing to worry about. Do it wrong and you suffer the consequences.

We just had a run in yesterday with a girl in a light blue Nissan Sentra or Altima. Driving too fast along Hunters Green Sq., kids all around. One of the Mothers yelled at her to slow down. She locks up the tires, and proceeds to scream F-U at the top of her lungs out the window, and then if that wasn't bad enough, speeds down the street, spins around and comes back. She rolled down her window and let loose a profanity laiden string with many F- U's thrown in, 3 feet in front of kids aged 2 to 9. If you know this girl, she needs help. If you see her, stay away.

Here's her plate number VA JFV-8916.

And I called the sheriff, they do not send out notices to people if you have the plate number. They need to witness the incident.

I agree with robzilla. I'd love to see a place where we could post about reckless drivers. There are too many children (I have two) that could be injured by these reckless drivers. And I'd love to see the police take action. My guess is that if there are several complaints against a driver, there is merit in a warning to that driver.

And the girl in the light blue Nissan Sentra or Altima needs more than help. I hope she never has children because she is the kind of person that will raise her kids to have no respect for others or the law. Those people tick me off.

If indeed a person is like this girl then the the right to drive should be revoked until she shows enough maturity to handle a situation like that. It's the "me" generation. Gotta love that. Don't forget that children are hurt so often by motorists in community neighborhoods that drive to fast. It would be a shame to have someone get injured or worse just because 15-25 mph in the neighborhood is to slow for you. I enjoy slowing down when someone flys up behind me. There was a lady in a mini-van on my way to work this morning that was in some rush to get wherever she was going. Didn't stop at any of the 4 stop signs we went thru and was driving at least 55 in a 35.

These horrible drivers in the area are a huge problem.

Take her out into the woods, bend her over a knee and spank the livin poop out of her.

Much like her awful driving and the police not being able to do anything - DON'T HAVE ANY WITNESSES! :D

Wonderful. I live on Hunters Green. When was this? That seems like a crock of you-know-what that the police couldn't do anything. They probably just couldn't be bothered...

It was last Thursday, about 6:30pm. We were just out watching the kids play. She was scary for sure...the police said it was our word against hers. They said I could file a complaint with the magistrate.

I suppose what you need are more than one person complaining to the sheriff's office. Next time this sort of thing occurs, try to get all the adults who were outside to call the non-emergency number.

Maybe I'm not understanding the problem from your point of view, but I don't appreciate some nutcase screaming the F-Bomb at my 2 year old. Maybe I should keep my video camera with me constantly...

FWIW ... I seem to remember that Hunter's Green is a private street, if all the homeowners along that road request it, and are willing to pay for the upkeep of them, traffic calming islands can be installed. However, it would be an assessment against all homes in that townhouse group that uses the road to enter and exit.

I have a strange feeling that you won't get unanimity on this from all those homeowners.

I doubt islands would fit, but speed bumps could be installed.

The HOA is responsible for the maintenance and repair of the street, not VDOT.
