Does anyone have any update on when they plan on finishing Ridgeway to the Greenway?

They appear to be working on connecting it now.

Has anyone gone down the road?
There is one of those public notice signs posted. It is a request to change the zoning from commercial to residential.

Makes a lot of sense to post the notice whee no one will ever see it.

So, the developer is asking to build more homes. I have no problem with that, but I think they should then build more infrasturcture for the additional owners. I vote for a workoutu area/raquetball facility. Not anything the size of the Ashburn Village Sports Pavilion (half of that facility is an indoor pool anyway).

    What does everyone else think?

We drove on it this weekend (entered from the Broadlands side). The signs were down, so we assumed it was open. Alas, our assumption was wrong. There is a stretch of unfinished road (about 1/4 mile long or so) on the outbound side of Ridgeway. We had to turn around and head back.

It looks like the road is completely paved on the inbound side, however (from the Greenway heading into Broadlands). Has anyone tried this route?

I'm not sure if its officially open or not, we have an HOA board meeting today, and I'll check with the Van Metre members.

The rezoning request from commercial to residential is on the south side of Waxpool Road, just east of the Greenway. They want to convert it from commercial zoning to a 254 unit apartment complex.
The zoning change along Wynridge near the Greenway is to change a buffer from 50 feet to 10 feet, primarily due to the fact that the road location was moved a bit from it's original planned location.
Since both changes, as well as a third one across from Overland Park, are on the same application the notice sign reflected all the changes.

Just got back from the HOA meeting ... the road is NOT officially open, Van Metre is planning (pending weather delays) to have that entire section of road done by Thanksgiving.

BTW ... that stretch of road will NOT be named Ridgeway, it actually begins with a W .. and I've totally forgotten what it is.

Does that mean one side of the road will have one name while the other side is Ridgeway?

Ridgeway will be to the west of Claiborne, on the east, the road will begin with a W .. and I will find out that name today.

Ok now for the fun question, can someone explain who started and approved the process of changing a street's name at an intersection and how low was this person's IQ?

Actually, its fairly common all throughout Loudoun County. Usually its off a main street. In Sterling they used Sterling Blvd, and just used East and West attached to the existing names.

Outside of Sterling, they've used different names. Really have no idea why it was done that way. I'll ask at the next HOA Board meeting.

Here is a Broadlands site plan map: http://hoa.broadlands.org/hoa/calendar/maps/siteplan-0208.jpg

Wyndridge is still closed.[V] Drove from Ridgeway across Claiborne onto Wyndridge today since ROAD CLOSED sign was down. The pavement has been painted and traffic signs (speed, stop, etc) have been erected. About 15 yards of gravel needs to be paved to connect Route 772 at the Greenway exit. Curbs need to be put in there as well. Considering the progress that has been made paving Claiborne south of Ridgeway, Wyndridge to 772 should be opened by Thanksgiving. At the land development meeting last month Van Metre reps promised the 772 entrance would be done in November.

My guess is that Van Metre plans open Claiborne south of Ridgeway and Wyndridge at the same time. I'm looking forward to saving 5 or more minutes off commute by comming into Southern Walk via 772 and Wyndrige. It will be interesting how traffic patterns in our community will change. Perhaps Claiborne/Wyndrige/Ridgeway will become the new Claiborne/Waxpool (watch for accidents [B)]). Consider that Southern Walk residents will no long need to take Waxpool to get to Home Depot and other locations East:D. How confusing directions for visitors will be: Take the Ashburn exit (6) off the Greenway, turn LEFT onto 772, Right onto WYNDRIDGE. WYNDRIDGE becomes RIDGEWAY[:0] at Claiborne.

Soon, just a couple more weeks. [^]

You think those directions are bad, try to explain to someone how to stay on Waxpool Road from Rte. 28!! They just added another "and you have to make a left turn to stay on Waxpool".

roads changing names is nothing big.. its done everywhere. People are used to that. At least its changing at an intersection.

I agree with cliff.. coming via waxpool is a mess. I will just tell ppl to go the parkway and come into broadlands from the north really. Actually, I find myself doing that most of the time now anyways.. staying away from the construction mud.

    Hi -
I live in the neighborhood of Belle Terra -- a development which will eventually connect to Broadlands (via new road construction), so I occasionally check this message board. 'Flynnibus' asked if there was a map showing the roads mentioned in this thread, as well as future ones.

To see a map that displays the area, go to www.moorefieldstation.com and click on the "MAPS" section. Then go to the map that is labeled "Local".

This map does not have names of the roads, but it easy to figure out 'what is what'. It seems that older roads that have been changed or eliminated (or plan to be), are shown in red. Note that this seems to be a map of the future -- showing how Ryan Road (Rt 774) continues on past the new Wyndridge, as well as the extension of Claiborne Parkway to Loudoun County Parkway. Who know when there will be enough $ to do all this, but it is an interesting plan.

    Hope this helps!

Sorry -- Ryan Road is Rt 772, not 774... No need to create more confusion!

That local map shows how Claiborne Pkwy is going to be a major north-south route within the next 4 to 8 years.

The money for the road imptovements within these communities comes from the Developer of the community. They are required to provide road improvements as a condition of approval.
