Any updates on when Wynridge will be open? (or is it already?) I think this thread mentioned plans to have it done by Thanksgiving.

    Thanks!

They had some wet weather that played some havoc with the paving schedule. If you've driven by there, the actual paving is done, now they're getting the area closest to the Greenway bridge setup for painting lines, and traffic flow.

I would think in another week or so.

It's hard to tell, but on this map it looks as if the new road construction at that annoying new jog in Waxpool north of Shellhorn might eventually connect to Broadlands Boulevard...whcih would be nice.

exrook - you are correct - once the bridge is completed along Broadlands Blvd (where Broadlands Blvd turns to gravel on Shellhorn Rd) that road will be the "straight road" up to Ashburn Road. Then it becomes Faulkner Pkwy to the 4 way stop at Ashburn Village Blvd. You will have to make a left turn to continue on Waxpool.

So now if you want to get from rt 28 to the little league ballfields on Waxpool, you'll have to make 3 left turns from waxpool onto waxpool..... ;>

Well .. the way you have to say it is this:

"Ok, got a pencil ?? Good.

From Chantilly, take 28 to the intersection of 28 and Waxpool, where all the construction is. Turn left onto Waxpool. Follow Waxpool and at the third traffic light, turn left onto Waxpool. Follow Waxpool until it merges with Faulkner (??) Blvd, then turn left onto Waxpool. Follow Waxpool into Broadlands, past the 4 way stop until you see the Sunoco station, then turn left onto Waxpool.

    Got it ??

Say what, you want me to repeat which left turn ? That's right, left onto Waxpool !! .... "

Then it turns into an Abbott and Costello sketch !!

I realized after I wrote this, I forgot the first left onto Waxpool ... !!

It will soon be time to rename all these 'different' Waxpool Roads... WAY too confusing! Until I got used to the road configuration here, it seemed every time I came to an unfamiliar intersection, one of the roads was Waxpool!

Apparently, Waxpool was once a main thoroughfare, but it no longer will be, so it is time to make things less confusing with some new street names. I used to live in Fairfax County, and when the Fairfax County Parkway caused streets to be split in half, relocated, etc. the streets were renamed. Hopefully the same will follow here.

Actually ... the confusion started with all the construction for subdivisions. Waxpool followed the property lines of the farms that were here. The first left turn at MCI was there before MCI was, it was moved about 2 or 3 years ago when MCI did their last major construction. The next left turn is being added because they're joining Faulkner (?) Blvd to Waxpool at Farmwell Hunt. This road will then go straight into Broadlands Blvd by the Fall or Winter of 2005 (supposedly). The last left turn at the Sunoco was added when the Broadlands developer extended the road from the original Waxpool alignment and created Truro Parish to connect Chickacoan about the time they started here (1997 I believe).

The thing is, if you follow all the left turns on Waxpool, eventually you will reach the area that is called Waxpool !! So it still does its original purpose.

Another road that is very historical is Braddock Road, it flows all the was from Alexandria (or is it Arlington) in one form or another through to the Virginia border.

Related question ... once they open Claiborne pkwy beyond Ridgeway intersection ... is there plans to put in a bike / walking trail and street lamps which exists along the rest of Claiborne pkwy within Broadland community ??

    Thank you.

No it's not open yet and I am starting to wonder if the developer is delaying to keep it for construction traffic.

Actually that's going to be the main entrance for all construction traffic for the southern area of Broadlands. All the contractors will be told that it is to be used, so you shouldn't see concrete or dump trucks coming down Claiborne heading south. They've been having construction trucks use it since its not public yet, but I'll check with the developer at the next HOA meeting on Tuesday.
