Anybody hear anything on an opening date for the Safeway Gas yet or when they are starting on the Wendy's?

Today, I was told it's scheduled to open on 17 Jan. I was also told the delay was caused because they couldn't get electricity installed on schedule.

Safeway Gas is now open. I filled up there early this morning (on my Starbucks run). You can save 3 cents per gallon by using your Safeway card (you can also punch in your phone number if you don't have your card with you). I ended up paying 1.9699 per gallon for Premium.

Does the bill board advertised price reflect the 3 cents per gallon discount by using your Safeway card? i.e. sign currently says 1.82 Is that before or after the safeway card discount?

I just bought gas tonight. The 1.82 is before the 3 cent discount - 1.799 with your safeway card.

How does the pump read the card? Do you need to use the credit card size Safeway card? Can you enter your home number like when buying at the register? Thanks.

You can use either. The pumps will let you either swipe the safeway 'credit' card or it gives you the option of entering your phone number on the keypad before you swipe your credit card. Pretty simple

just out of curiousity.. why would people buy safeway gas.. but not other 'generic' gas offered elsewhere in the area?

Do you consider safeway gas 'brand name' just like an exxon, sunoco, etc?

I don't believe anyone said anything about Safeway gas being better than other generic gas -- it's just less expensive than our local area gas stations. As for other generic gas being available in this area, there are none that I know of within 5+ miles of Broadlands, so no one's comparing generic gas. For all I know, Safeway gas could be surplus Exxon or Shell or any other brand bought on the surplus market and pumped into Safeway tanks.

Kudos to Safeway gas. What it will do is put price pressure on the local gougers who've had it good for a long time.

Don't be surprised if Safeway keeps the price low for 2-3 weeks to bring in customers and then cranks it up to the usual Mobil/Exxon
robbery prices. The Shell station did it and I think the 7-11 did the same.:(

Maybe so .. but with the Safeway card, the price will still be at least 3 cents below the 'brand' names. However, most 'generic' gasoline stations are usually cheaper than the 'brands', I don't expect this to change all that much.

Safeway's gas is a penny cheaper with card than Costco's 1.80.

Safeway is running a new promo - didn't notice till I looked at my grocery receipt just now. Spend $50 or more in one purchase and get a SIX CENT/gallon fuel discount! It's good for one fill-up and is valid until 6/13/05.

Let's see for $50 bucks you get $.03 additional discount. With an average fuel tank of 15 gallons, that equates to $.45 [|)]

At least they're trying. (Now if I take the big suburban over there it might be worth it [:p])

exactly.. I never understood why people get into such a ruckus over 2-3 cents in gas. Even at a 10cent increase.. that still nothing. Maybe a buck or two. People drop that in a heart beat. Of course over time.. when gases goes from an average $1/gal to $2/gal.. then I'm interested.

I'm more concerned over the price increases in the grocery store.. watching a loaf of bread go from 1.39 to 1.99. Now that's alot more significant to me. Thats pushing 50%
