I agree with you on the checkout lines...but on a Sunday evening - I would expect they would cut back on open lines....probably don't do a lot of business on a Sunday evening. I've been there recently thought where they're a little better with opening lines up....

I, personally, have never liked HT produce section. One time I went in to get some tomatoes and there were fruit flies all over them. Maybe it is something that can't be helped, but it was very unappetizing!

Did you ask for discount (2 for 1 deal)? They'll do it but you have to ask.

I like the new Giant - I can get things there that I can't at Safeway or HT....it's convenient.

I am a Wegmans' woman but like the new Giant for some of my quick items. I agree with the produce at HT and fruit flies. For whatever the reason, they seem to be worse there than any other store.

after going through wegmans again tonight.. I wish they'd rip out the non-grocery BS they have that takes up 1/3rd of the grocery side of the store and actually just carry more brands/items!! You can find uncle joe's hand made, flaxen backpacks, but you can't find a simple pepsi product!

What would be normal 'mainstream' products they seem to minimize

I've always wondered how much of that stuff they sell... I've never seen anyone buying a sauce pan or a set of plates there. But they must sell enough to justify using the real estate for it.

I thought that you were talking about the Wegmans prepared food isle. If I didnt drop a mint in this section every time that I went there, the DW and I could probably be retired by now.:rolleyes3:

i happen to LOVE uncle joe's hand made, flaxen backpacks! they are uh- umm... special. lol

in all seriuosness, i LIKE the originality that wegmans brings I've tried products and brands i've never heard of, some hit, some miss. i love their ethnic sections- they do a nice job there to. all i don't use is the fresh flower dept- but i have bought occasional dishes and kitchen accessories there...

i actually like wegmans dish/accessories department. it's great when you need to find a gift and don't want to make an extra stop.

their floral department is seriously the best. i have special ordered specific flowers from them (for when my business hosts events) - and they are fantastic. the quality of their flowers is top notch (they truly last!). my hubby recently bought me some roses from HT that died after 2 days.

No - that side the store I avoid completely - its totally chaotic and loud over there. I don't even enter that side of the store. I'm talking about the massive chunk of store directly between the produce and freezer section at the front of the store.

That would be fine.. IF they still carried the other stuff. That's the problem though, their selections are actually rather small in many common brands/items because they have so much other 'stuff'.

Take a simple area like bottled water - their selection stinks compared to some of the other chains. Or their bread/bakery aisle for brand items. Or even their cracker aisle.

It's like a hippie store - all these off-beat things and lacking in the mainstream items.

I've figured out how to keep it low pressure when going through there now - but the lack of depth of selection in the main brand products really keeps me from loving the place.

this explains why we have SO many different stores that thrive here- we are a very diverse neighborhood with TOTALLY different ideas of what should fill a pantry or fridge.

steve, you and i could BOTH start with an empty fridge, and leave the supermarket with ENTIRELY different items to fill it! we may cross over on eggs, but i bet NOTHING else would be the same. lol i'm a cokle girl not pepsi...

i could live on that loud, crazy side of wegmans- between the cheese, wine and olive bar, i need nothing else but a good book and some Prince circa 1986 playing my ears... :)
