I mentioned to the cashier once that I wished Wegmans would carry particular brands and she told me to go to their customer service desk. At the desk there is a form you can fill our requesting particular brands of items. I filled it out and expected nothing else. I was completely surprised when I received a phone call one week later from Wegmans addressing each and every item. They started stocking all but one brand that I requested!

Wegmans also carries some great brands that the other local stores don't, some of the brands that are more common in Western NY. Dinosaur sauce, speedie marinades, etc, New England cut rolls, white hots/red hots... yum. We've been happy with the Wegmans brand items too.

I don't drink pepsi either... I said 'pepsi product' :) It was an example. That's my point though.. that the store that is so 'all encompassing' does not actually cover the full gambit of mainstream products and brands. They've sacrificed mainstream brands for lots of IMO... junk.

Why do I need to be looking at Children's Desks at the front of the store?

My assumption is that they are a smart retailer and know what their core consumers want. You aren't their target market, apparently, and that's why their selection doesn't revolve around you :)

Selling a children's desk is far more profitable than a Pepsi product or can of green beans. Ever see how much high end stuff people buy there? I'd rather sell the froofy stuff as well if I was a business who actually wanted to make money!

As someone who has purchased a deck umbrella, books for my kids and a set of bowls in addition to all the regular grocery stuff, I like their selections. It's convenient for me since I usually have kids in tow and it's like "one stop shopping".

I'm from WNY and am THRILLED to have Wegmans here to get the Sahlen Hot dogs, Webers hot mustard, Kimmelweck rolls, etc.!!!! I used to have to bring all this back with us when we visited, but now it's a quick trip to the store...so nice!

Oh, man. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that. I can't say the number of 'fresh' produce items we've thrown away like a day after we get them home. For that matter, lots of stuff in the store is bad. I called a produce manager once and we went thru a bin looking for a decent tomato. They were ALL bad. And worse, their prices are nuts. I treat HT now like a glorified convenience store. If I need something at 3am I'll go there. For normal shopping, forget it.

I agree - their produce is lacking, but to their credit...I have bought fresh fruit and veges and it's been fine. However - we eat up LOTS of fruits and veges anyway so it doesn't sit at all in our house....it gets eaten too fast.

    The economy??? Just kidding.

BTW folks - if your produce goes bad be sure and return it for a refund. It's too expensive not to.

I hope Safeway makes their store look better at least. Betweeen the new Giant, HT and Wegmans, Safeway is the most depressing looking of all of them.

It's impossible to be a "store loyal" customer around here between the number of stores and the different things they have to offer. For example:

Safeway: convenient for me (can walk to it), nice people at pharmacy, meat usually pretty good (as long as you stay away from the manager's special...:eww:), produce sucks.

Wegmans: great place for hard to find items like jamon serrano or spanish chirozo, plus their wine, meat and international isles are great! Produce usually has interesting things that you don't find in the conventional stores but it's out of the way and too busy for me most days.

Giant: Best baguettes. Produce ok. Meat, so-so. Generally average.

HT: I've not had a problem with their produce, but I do notice it has been going downhill since they opened. It does have better variety than the average market. Meat department has a limited selection and quality is ok, not great. However, they do carry Skyline chili from Cincinnati, OH! That for me makes it tops!

Brassy, please! This isn't Hormel I'm talking about! Yes, Skyline is a restaurant all over Ohio actually and no, it's not canned (well it can be canned, but HT carries the frozen variety).

    Sorry for going off topic...
