Brassey reports that two middle-aged white males are going wround selling "Organic Cleaning Products" but they have no product to show & no vehicle in sight.

    She's making the appropriate calls.

Over here, the salespeople are younger with a white male wearing a light orange polo shirt & khakis with a butterfly bandage on the left eyebrown along with a heavyset white female wearing an orange and white striped polo and blue jeans.

They claimed that "Amanda in the van" has the Loudoun County permit.

Proper calls were also made here.

    All

Just want to let you all know what I saw this morning .... not sure how to take this but anyway here is what happened

I live in Humbolt sq . At 6 AM this morning I started out , pulled out vehicle and started to drive towards atherton street . Atherton street towards humbolt sq ends near the woods. As I started to drive , I saw a car going towards that dead end .. as I approached Stop sign at Humbolt/Atherton , I see that a man in white shirt got down the car and was trying to look for something there looking at the trees... I wasn't sure what he was doing so decide to just stay there at the stop sign and cont to watch him. He noticed me. Got back in to the car and went past me thru Humbolt sq.

If you all know that area it is a circle from overland park sq entrance to atherton to humbolt and again to overland park drive again in to Atherton.

So he went past me , went towards teh tot lot end and took a left there.. .. I proceeded to drive and waited at the next stop sign (overlandpark dr / atherton st) .. now I see him come again down overland park drive ( finshed the circle) and took left onto Atherton again ( so he did he make a circle because I am watching?) ..This time he pulled over in to the last home drive way.. again got down the car stood on the side walk facing trees/toll road and was looking something..... not sure what he was looking for..

May be it is nothing.. But I just wnat write it here just in case . This person was wearing a white shirt and a red(?) tie. I could not see the car tags clearly but I think I got couple of letters of it.

Might I suggest that anytime you see something suspicious like this, that you call the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office non-emergency number and report it?

    Non-Emergency Phone: 703-777-1021

Just plug it into your cellphone for quick access anytime you notice stuff like this.

Please, Please, Please!!! If you see any activity that you consider suspicious call the police non-emergency number. 703-777-0445 Spreading the word on the forum is great - BUT - the police need to be notified and the more information you can give them the better.

Maureen, the number I found for the Non-Emergency line was 703-777-1021, as seen on the right side of this page: http://www.loudoun.gov/sheriff/index.htm

That's the number I used in my post above.

Am I reading the wrong number?

I called the Sheriff's office and both of those numbers will work. The number you have is their "publically published number" so that is the better one to use. The number I have is an older one that we've used in the newsletter. I'm going to update it this month

and what about these guys (and I have had 2) that seem to be "artists" from Israel coming door-to-door selling paintings? And as they finish the street, a car collects them with their portfolio to go on to the next area... yea, starving artist.

How have any of you recently dealt with these guys?

OH! That explains the guy at the door yesterday (I didn't answer). Had on a soccer looking jersey, a big tube & large flat thing which must have been the portfolio!

Hrmmm.... when did we become solicitor central?

yea, that was them. Certainly they are "nice" and not threatening at all, and not even pushy. But the model of walking around, selling paintings is a new one to me. Of course this would not happen if it didn't work, but they must sell enough to make it worth while... just surprised me to see him at 8:00 at night.

Is there a cap, like the tele-marketers have (no calls after 9PM)? I would be very miffed if someone came to my house after 5PM soliciting crap, errr wares.

Unless they are neighbor kids selling something for school, scouts, etc.....I don't answer the door or buy anthing from the adult solitors that come to the neighborhood.

Broadlands does not have a "no solicitor" policy therefore we cannot do anything about the folks coming after dinnertime. We also cannot enforce anything against the fliers that are left on our doors.

It's my understanding that a policy wasn't set up so the civic groups (girl/boy scouts, school groups, etc) wouldn't be affected.

I think maybe this should be revisited - but have an amendment so the kiddie groups will be able to solicit in the neighborhood. I'm tired of picking up flier trash all over my porch and yard. I must get fliers 3-4 times per week.

    Thoughts?

There is no such thing as a "no solicitor policy" when you are on public streets. Solicitors must be registered with the county but they cannot be precluded from a neighborhood, unless you are behind a gate as in River Creek or Belmont CC.

Also solicitors must be selling a product to require registration...some one stuffing flyers in your door are not considered solicitors and require no registration.

Best advice is just not to answer the door or immediately call the police if you have any suspicions. If you decide to open the door ask to see their permit to solicit...as for the flyers...my kids use to use them for collages...way to make lemonade out of lemons :partydrink:

I don't see anything positive about the fliers littering our neighborhood. Not only are they an eyesore, but the distributors are damaging private property when the fliers are stuffed through the weatherstripping on the front door and they are an invitation to thieves should you go on vacation or a business trip.

While we can't prohibit people from soliciting/distributing on public streets, the last time I checked, my front door is not a public street - it's private property and I am fed up.

When I lived in the Village we could call HOA about the fliers and HOA would call the business. I know the Village had some sort of policy against flier distribution. I know this worked because Vocelli's stop distributing after HOA called them.

Thanks Maureen for clearing up the policy for the for the door-to-door folks. I usually don't answer the door unless it's a kid because usually they are from the neighborhood.
