Would a more appropriate sign be "No Siliciting or Flyer Distribution"?

Of course then - no Girl Scout Cookies for You!

    Kaosdad,

You are correct. I taught my daughter to read those signs a couple of years ago. If she sees a "No Soliciting" sign, she does not approach the house during Girl Scout Cookie order time. We move on.

You wouldn't belive the people who are unfriendly towards Girls Scouts. I have taught her that it is better to avoid those houses - just in case.

Technically, UPS would be trespassing since there is a sign.

My sign also states no soliciting, but there is no legal recourse to a no soliciting sign. There are clear laws on the books to a no trespassing sign which allows legal recourse.

    Here is the code:

I think I feel the same way as many on the board that I am not trying to stop kids (school fundraising, girlscouts, etc) from coming to my door. We gladly eat our share of cookies and look forward to it each year. It is those shady folks that show up after dinner, etc that we want to discourage.

I've not had a girl scout come to my door selling cookies ever in the 4 years we've been in broadlands and we don't have any signs. That goes for the boy scouts as well. These days parents bring all these school fundraiser things to work anyway so making the community a no solicitation zone is 100% fine by me. Wouldn't change a thing.

I would think that the UPS would be delivering mail, thus not soliciting anything. I wouldn't think it's trespassing if they have a legit reason for putting something on your door step - like the purchases you ordered online.

When I worked, part of my job (very fine print) was that I had to put fliers out/advertising. I hated it, and so did my other co-workers... but we were forced into doing it because it was in the fine print of our contract. We were cheap labor since the company didn't have to pay an additional person to do something their current employee could do and it gets their company the advertising they want. It's horribly embarrassing! I hate getting the fliers (on my car or in my house door) so why would I want to do that to others? It was a constant battle. The company I worked for made enough money to afford other forms of advertising, they were just too cheap to pay for it.

I ran the business name thru a Better Business Bureau search, and came up with several listings... none of them have info for contact information (except for "Service manager Alex ??"), but all of them have an unsatisfactory record due to... surprise... unanswered complaints. Looks like the company is based in Fairfax county... might be able to contact an official there to get the business' registry information (they have had a complaint filed against them in Fairfax County, so the business must be registered TO someone...).

I really hate these flyers, especially the ones that are rolled up and stuffed into outdoor stairway railings. I tend to go in and out of the house through the garage, so I almost never see the ones shoved into the railings and the front door... at my old townhome I once walked out the front door and literally 5 chinese menus fell from the weatherstripping, some from the same restaurant multiple times.

I ran a search on their domain name (maidcleaningservice.com) and that's registered to a Gabriel Marguglio in Rockville.

I've never been solicited at home by the Girl Scouts. I usually get them when they set up in front of the Grocery store. I like it that way, makes it easier to purchase the case or 2 at a time.

My name is Gabriel Marguglio and we do WEBSITE DESIGN. Maid cleaning service is one of our customers and have a domain registered with us. But I personally or my company has nothing to do with flayer distribution.
    Thanks.

That's a good approach. We normally don't answer either. That solves the whole solicitor thing, and we don't miss our neighbors who might be trying to get in touch because they call before stopping over.

A buddy of mine always answers the door but he makes of point of having his side-arm in plain sight. =-) That's another good trick, too.
