While boring for the light at Waxpool/Claiborne, the contractor hit rock (ummm...DUH!). So, apparently they are having to redesign the placement of the lights. Doubt this one will happen soon.

The Claiborne/Broadlands light shouldn't be much longer before it's installed, so I've heard.

Why would they not just bust up the rock and put it in the way they designed it? Everything built around here is on rock. They'll spend another year "redesigning" the placement of the lights and then they'll hit more rock. Here's a want-ad: Everyone who graduated last in their engineering class please apply to VDOT.

Claiborne/Broadlands light soon????? Are you kidding? There's absolutely nothing going on there as far as constructing these lights.

Didn't hear about the rock issue before, next board meeting is next week. FWIW, when you're using the bore machine, it does not have the capability to 'bust up rock'. Shoot .. they have to either use a 60 ton hydraulic ram to bust it up, or they blast !!

From what I understand, the conduit is fully run at Broadlands and Claiborne. Not sure if all the concrete has been laid yet though.

A neighbor 2 doors down installed an inground pool by "busting up rock" for two solid months. I figure to do that for a stop light pad would be a walk in the park.

I suspect the rock is not at the 'stop light pad', if it was, all it would take is a jackhammer. More likely, its directly under the roadway ...

OK ... here's the latest. Both sets of lights should be in by ... the end of October, but don't be surprised if one is installed much earlier.

Again, there were issues on design at one, and scheduling at another.
VDOT returned the design at Broadlands and Claiborne as one of the pads needed to be set deeper than was planned.

At the Waxpool one, which is a county installed light, due to, again, design issues, the schedule was pushed a bit, however, the developer is pushing the county to finish up before school starts ... we shall see.

Its not up to the developer ... this is the info they are given, and they pass on to us.

There's a crew working right now on the lights at the Claiborne & Broadlands Blvd intersection.

To clarify, there is one person working. Three additional workers are smoking and talking while watching that person work ...:):D

This thread is about to have its first birthday (and the topic goes back way farther than that) and we're no closer to a light now than when it was started. What a joke. It's a stinking stop light, not a nuclear reactor- what's so hard about getting a design approved?

Even if Einstein himself designed it, someone in planning and zoning with a high school diploma would send it back for re-designing.

DOes anyone know when the traffic light on Claiborne and Broadlands Blvd will be installed? I noticed in Ashburn Village they already have traffic lights installed at the intersections where Harris Teeter is located. What is taking so long for the lights to be installed here?

The last we heard from Van Metre's land manager for Broadlands. The original design of the concrete footings for the light poles had to go BACK to VDOT for approval.

I agree ... its getting ridiculous, but take a look at how all the streets and sidewalks get redone just before VDOT takes over. They have specific requirements that must be followed.

I wish we had better news right now.

What does this county have against traffic lights? Not only in our community. Look at the daily rush hour mess at Ashburn Villiage Blvd and Waxpool or Shelhorn and Ashburn Villiage Blvd. It's absolutely ridiculous. I am amazed that it takes less time to widen the Greenway, including a few bridges, than it takes to install a traffic light. Bureaucracy at it's finest.
