Why have all of Brim's posts been removed yet one of the most blatant abusers of the forums who has been banned, Chris, still have all of their posts in the archives?

CHILL Homer! Did you ever think that the committee members are ALSO homeowners??? ..then yes the tech Com..does answer to themselves, as well as other homeowners.

You seem to forget the fact the Tech Committee and other HOA Committees are on a VOLUNTER basis. If you dont like the rules of the forum moderator then it seems that you have two choices:

    1) Join the Broadlands Tech Committee
    2) Don't post here

Keeping this forum up and running takes a lot of time in addition to the other events the Tech Committee runs for Broadlands residents...and NO I am not on this committee. Maybe I'll actually see you at an HOA meeting....in the near future.

FWIW...this action was well over due.

You said yourself you talked to 10 people. Thats three times the amount of people that normally shows up at our tech committee meetings. Look, bring them all to the HOA board meeting. I'll show up and we can talk about whatever forum stuff you all want to bring up. If you want to discuss our rules, I'm all for it. There is plenty of room for the 11 of you, and I'm sure the board would love to have so many active participants in the communty at a meeting. I'd be more than happy to request a spot on the boards agenda just for the forums.

Back to the topic of Brim (yeah we went offtopic a tad!).

This will come up at the next HOA Board meeting I'm sure, a topic just on Brim.

I'd like to remind everyone reading this, or new information to those that don't even know, that Brim isn't even living in the Broadlands - he pays $0 to the HOA. Yet all of this, including time and effort now by the paid members of the board, will be addressing his issues. As some of our members would put it 'here are your tax dollars at work'.

So seriously Homer, lets discuss this at the board meeting with your group. If you will let me or the other admins know how many are coming that would be helpful.

Well said! I can only imagine the amount of lumps the tech committee has taken, b/c of what the HOA Board requested.

Since Brim lives in TN and moved out of Broadlands several years ago and does not pay any HOA dues, ZERO ZILCH NADA!! I strongly object to the simple fact that Brim continues to strain the resources of both the HOA and Tech Comm. I have no issues with other members who reside in neighboring communities as in the past their input has been a great resource.

We'll be at the HOA meeting to support the Board, Tech Comm & revised Forum rules. I doubt that Homer will show up, you've made a request, Cliff also made a request/suggestion to Homer to get involved (see the New Trash service thread). At any rate, we'll be there in support of the ban.

Oh by all means, please do so (discuss it here that is softballchick). Homer has already called Wes and seems to have a group together to approach the board. FYI if you didn't know (we have new folks joining every day that have never been in an HOA before: The board handles all HOA decisions (nothing is officially decided in these forums). If you want to get something officially changed, thats where you go. The HOA board is made up of both developers, paid members and actual residents of the broadlands. They meet once a month, if you have more questions about the board please feel free to ask (but in a new thread please).

Just a correction, I'm sure that you meant the paid members of the HOA staff not board. Board members, as I well know, are not paid for their time.

Hornerjo: Yes I know the board is stacked in your favor. So why bother. I know the system well enough to know it is a waste of time, especially when it is still in Developer control. You still sidestep the issue of Boomer. Banned for a rule that doesn't exist.

Qzpmal: Maybe you missed it but it takes a year of service to on the TC to even matter, that's a stiff requirement. It must have been interesting in the first year of the TC, with no one being able to vote and all. I've set up these forums on my personal server. It doesn't take that much time. And for moderation it is simple. Post clear rules, enforce them fairly and tell everyone else who complains to grow a skin. Are these forums really that out of control it takes SO much time to moderate? Lol, reallly. It's not FARK.

    Anyway, this is going nowhere.

And Homer, you are the one taking it nowhere. If you don't like it, you have 3 choices - step up to the plate and "volunteer" your time, deal with it, or leave. The choice is yours. Your constant harping when things don't go as you think they should shows everyone that you need to grow up!

I sidestepped nothing. I told you exactly why he was banned. Ignore warnings from the admins and spam the forums and I'll ban you. You may not like it, but thats just too bad.

And the board is stacked in your favor, you are just as much of a paying resident as I am. You have 10 people or so to join you? Sounds like a pretty darn good representation to me. The board members have several people voted by you and me to represent the community. They are ready to hear all of you. But you are just blowing smoke on here right?

Ok so the 1 year rule. You think you can just show up and vote to change our rules in just 1 meeting?

    HOMER:
Ok tech committee. I brought 10 of my friends. We're voting right now to remove all access by the tech committee to moderate any posts.

    All in favor!

HOMER and his 10 friends: 'Aye'
3 members of the tech committee: 'No'.

    Rule passed, tech committee overruled.

Now we're voting to allow cussing on the forums and post photos and names of everyone in the community including all minors.

HOMER and his 10 friends: 'Aye'
3 members of the tech committee: 'No'.

    Rule passed, tech committee overruled.

Sorry Homer. Doesn't work like that. And you have forums on your personal server? Excellent. Post there.

Sorry Homer, but you're actually showing your ignorance of the way the HOA/system works in this case. If you actually attended a meeting or even took time to actually read some of the comments made by the resident-voted members, you would realize that on 'local' matters such as this, the developer members actually abstain, and forego the decision to the resident members. Those resident members were voted in by residents of the Broadlands to represent us. Now, before you go around saying that those resident members are somewhat corrupt and are out to get you and everyone else, think really hard about the allegations you are about to make. As for why Boomer was suspended for 3 days, we addressed that multiple times in previous posts, but you simply decide to ignore our answers. Not much we can do there...

Nice twisting of our words there Homer. Let's get this clear for everyone before you continue spreading your FUD (Fear, uncertainty and doubt). The one year rule is there so that someone cannot join the Tech Committee and a month later, get full access to the forums. What if this person decides to pull the list of everyone's email addresses and sell them? Yep, you would be the first one in line to kick and scream at us for being so ignorant as to give a stranger total access to your personal information. I seriously doubt anyone here would disagree that the Tech Committee shouldn't just give that sort of access to anyone who requests it without having shown that they can be trusted and shown that they are committed to the 'work'. Now, if you disagree with a rule or want a new one put in place, then ALL of our meetings are open to the public and ANYONE is welcome to come down and propose a change, make comments, etc. We're EXTREMELY open to implementing any change that someone proposes if it won't cause a security issue, won't cause general uproar on these forums, etc.

Please Homer, stop twisting our words and misrepresenting what we are saying.

You've setup your own forums and it doesn't take much time to run? Then why is it that every time we ask you to come down and ask the HOA to turn over the forums to you and your group to run, you start back pedaling? Surely, something as easy to run/manage, finally being able to make a difference, and running these forums as YOU see fit is well worth one hour of your time to show up at the HOA meeting tuesday and make that request. Please bring your 'group of 10 unhappy users' and let's get this over with. We're 3 users running these forums, you and your 10 friends can surely do a much better and efficient job than us.

    Homer, grow a skin.

Its quite simple.. the standards are set by the people in control and done so in a way to be as fair and open as possible. No one wants 10,000 rules. It's meant to be a constructive, open discussion forum for the residents of broadlands. Many things come down to a judgement call. The people making those judgements are those who have been entrusted to do so.

The people in control (tech comm) answer to the HOA Board. There is no dictatorship. The elected board empowered the tech committee to fund, operate, and manage the discussion forums. Where you have a problem, you can take it up with the tech commmitte and onto board as we have said endless times.

The board stacked in our favor? Stacked? Maybe its just respect, something that has been earned through a track record of years of dedication and excellent track record. Just because you bring a greivance doesn't mean someone else has to agree with you. Sounds like you don't get your way and you assume the world is corrupt.

I've stood up and have said these types of discussions (around user actions and moderation) need to be allowed, because its important for people to understand and be able to ask questions. The reality is you have taken this thread into something completely different. You swing from the basis of 'censorship' and personal agendas... yet you continue to ignore the answers given to you.

Boomer? Simple.. he blatently ignored the admins and continued to instigate rather then discussing the matter. Instead of responding, he decided it was his 'mission' and repeatedly (up to about 5 if I recall) tried to start threads directly against what he was just corrected on.

I don't care if you are trying to sell girl scout cookies.. you repeatedly ignore and try to get around the admin you are breaking the rules and will get banned. I don't care what the topic was.. the fact is this is what happened and his account was suspended according to the rules laid out.

I encourage you to voice opinions on issues and even bring them to the board. But don't cry foul or censorship just because the rest of the place didn't agree with you.

    Homer-
First, Brim's assertions to you that a Board member "flexed his muscle" to get him banned is untrue. As you know, Brim is referring to me. Did I "flex my muscle" to get you banned a few years ago? No, if you recall, we had an email exchange discussing the situation and your account was reinstated. So why do you seem to believe Brim's story with no facts in evidence?

Issues with Brim had been ongoing for a while. Issues brought up by many residents, other users, and Tech Committee members. A little while ago, I could sense the frustration from a few Tech committee members. I emailed one and told him I would support any action the committee chose to take against Brim. The HOA Board did NOT make the decision to remove Brim.
Brim was advised he could appeal that decision to the Board, which he has. Boomertsfx can do the same if he chooses.

Mr Linux is right.....the Tech Commitee answers to the HOA Board. So if you don't like what they are doing, come see the Board. Don't continue to berate the Tech Committee and don't bother Wes or any other HOA employee. Mr. Linux is also right that the Developer does not exert any influence over decisions affecting how we run the community.

So please.......bring your 10 friends to the HOA Board. Be prepared to discuss what rules you believe to be unfair, what rules may have been violated, and what suggestions you have that you wold like to see changed.

You are partially right in one respect about "stacking the deck." The Tech Committee members have worked hard on numerous things for this communityfor years. If you think all they do is moderate Forums, then you are truly ignorant of all that they do and maybe you should go to a few Tech Committee meetings and find out.
Quite frankly, if they believe that someone should be banned and provide reasonable rationale, I for one will support it. Their time, effort, and energy is worth far more to this community than any one user of our Forums.

Lastly, let me make it clear. NO ONE HAS THE RIGHT to use these Forums as they see fit. No free speech and no first amendment. These forums are owned and operated by the Broadlands HOA and WE will determine who can and can't use them. Don't like it? See you Tuesday.

Hey, maybe we should back off of Homer. He's just trying to get clarification. Which successfully has allowed those in charge to voice their opinion and justified decisions.

Homer is "again" a catalyst. Thank you Homer, and thank you tech committee.

I guess I read more attacks, assumptions, incorrect statements, incorrect facts, and assumption of facts not in evidence, rather than requests for clarification.
    Thanks for straightening me out!

Cliff: I didn't say your name, and even so I meant that you were asked to do so by homeowners who complained. I do remember what happened in the past in, and in other matters I have given you the benefit of the doubt and kept my mouth shut.

TC: Yeah I set up forums, moderated, etc... so what. I do that as a my day job, which is order of magnititude more important then this. If you haven't noticed I've been scarce. And just because I and others don't like this particular incident doesn't mean we have to take over. Is the rule now "put up or shut up"? So now we have to serve to have an opinion?

And yes, the HOA owns the forums. So technically they are private. But HOAs are quasi government performing functions ceded to them by the state so they really aren't corporations. This is America not the U.S.S.R so you should keep the spirit of that and not censor based on what someone does or does not like. There is an ignore poster feature. Make people use it. I'm sure quite a few people ignore me already.

Steve: I ignore the answers given to me b/c I know how I was treated. The lack of transparency on this issue makes me question what happened. Brim would like the complaints and rules broken public. You can set up a restricted sub forum for homeowners to keep it internal. This whole ruckus could have been avoided if not for the secrecy.

Brim blamed me in his email, and since you stated you had Brim's side of the story, it was clear to me that you were referring to me. Gads!!!!! Was I assuming facts not in evidence!?!?!?!?
I guess since we are "quasi-governmental", we will continue to allow only "quasi-freedoms." Our record is pretty clean. With the hundreds of Users and only having suspended less than a handful, I don't think we've hit USSR status yet. You are free to start your own forums and apply whatever rules you like.

I simply tried to start a thread just like this one, to discuss the banning of brim. My posts kept getting deleted by hornerjo because I was "flaming" apparently (and the fact that I mentioned 'brim', which seems to be just fine now). I even created a generic poll with NO specific names in it and it was deleted as well.

I understand there is no freedom of speech here and the admins have the right to censorship, but censorship should be applied to illegal and inflamatory topics such as posting the information of minors and things of that sort...not to silencing discussion on why a user was banned. But, I am glad that is out in the open now and has been discussed.
