Loudoun County Government Website Migration GOOFS

Three times recently I've tried to google for something for something on the LC government website. Each time, solid Google hit, but when you goto click on the link, you get a 404 error (page not found)

You go back and find the google cache is only 2-3 weeks old.

Way to go Einsteins... apparently they moved their entire website to a new site with completely new organization and links - but failed to lead any redirects on the old website.

Most organizations may leave redirects or at least helpful locator pages in place for up to years! LoCo? We try to cut over instantly with no safety net behind. Geniuses

Sorry, didn't realize you held the exclusive rights to 'calling people out' around Loudoun County. I'll make a note of that for next time. Again, who's the one who jumped in here with nothing on topic?? Who's the one jumping on others and they crying wolf when they get it thrown back at them?

Go for it. Make sure you bring all the posts and records showing where I've 'bullied' people into something or punished them - you got 2 weeks to dream some up. I await your creativity.

You should try reading the rules without your bias. Key word you kept missing in sentence TWO. MEMBER.

I'm actually suprised they have SEO'd the site - having a valid site index sent in would have probably helped speed up the convergence after the move. With so much buried content, they should really be relying on the search engines.

The interesting bit is they apparently do a redirect at the main site, but not the contents. And on that, they redirect you to a specific hostname (inter4) rather then their 'public' alias of www. - another slightly sloppy move that could hurt them in the long run. Guess that's what we get for government pay

thepea2001 - since you can't take the hint - I'll say it specifically. If you have a problem - go through the published channels on it and stop posting about it here. The comment about 'member' was its attacking another (member) not that I'm not a 'member' myself. Maybe you can suggest a comment on the rules thread and we'll clarify it if needed.

I don't recall you calling for heads to roll when everyone else is attacking Snow/Bush/whatever... See the difference?

Mike - as you do not see all the communications that happen outside the public website - if you had a question about a specific thread you should have PM'd the forum administrator or used the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page and we would have been happy to explain any 'random thread closing' for you.

Again - if you have a specific concern, the Tech Committee will address it.

Before everyone starts crucifying Steve, you have no idea how much work he puts into these forums. A LOT more than even your wildest guess.

Erika, feel free to come to the meeting with your petition requesting Steve's removal. While you're at it, add me to it, since forum moderation is done as a TEAM. You want to remove Steve, then you remove me also. At which point, you might as well shut down the forums temporarily until the HOA can figure out who they can trust with the 'keys to the kingdom'.

I have to agree with Steve; he made a simple comment about the LoCo website and you immediately attacked him as never being happy, always complaining, etc. Then, you went off with your threats of his removal, your list of signatures, claims of personal attacks, etc.

So feel free to come to the BHOA meeting on November 13th at *4:30pm* (we start one hour early this month!). I'll make sure that other members of the Tech Committee are present to listen to your complaints and requests. If you are still not satisfied, and if you still deem it necessary to request Steve's removal per your petition full of signatures, I will officially step down from the Technology Committee if Steve is removed. There's no sense me volunteering my time running the website, the forums and the many Tech Committee events when you put your personal gripes with certain people, ahead of everything else.

Erika, this isn't a threat or anything like that. I'm just tired of Steve taking the bum rap on so many things when I personally know how much work and how many hours he spends here making these forums enjoyable for our community, and for the County. For every hour I spend moderating, he spends at least two. I know Steve doesn't really care about your threat, but I do. And like I said, the moderators/admins work as a team, supporting each others' decisions, including many offline discussions regarding actions taken, etc. If you have an issue with Steve, you have an issue with me as well.
