From Jersey Girl, I have to say that of the ones I've tried that folks have listed, the only true choice is Buon Appetito NY Pizza in Chantilly. Its in the shopping center by the Babies R Us. You should see that place at lunchtime. CRAZY. It is just like the pizza down the street in Jersey. In the immediate area, Sal's is the closest, but even that is a bit too thick/doughy/chewy. Sal's eggplant parm is the awesome, though.

If you like Buon Appetito, you will also like Tony's in Fair Lakes. I think the owners are cousins. Tony's makes Buon Appetito look quiet at lunch and dinner time. I love their eggplant parm sub. It is the best I have ever had.

    Hi there,
We're from NJ and have been on a quest for real Italian food for 5 years here now. For pizza, Sal's is pretty good, and Pomodoro (the one in Sterling by the TJ Maxx) is the most genuine pizza place we've found. Pomodoro also owns Scottos in Brambleton, they are good too.

It's actually pretty easy to make your own pizza, especially if you use a mix for the crust. Pillsbury makes a hot roll mix that you can buy in the baking isle of a grocery store. It has a pizza dough recipe on the box and it's not complicated to prepare it. You can make the crust as thin of thick as you like. Throw some tomato sauce on it, some spices, some cheese, and whatever toppings you like and you're good to go.

If we don't get pizza from Emillios, then I'll make it. I make my own sauce on a regular basis and dough too. It's not that hard to do. It's a lot less expensive too!

Best NY Style pizza around, according to my NY transplant husband: Primo Italiano in Reston hands down (http://www.primoitaliano.com/). Rubino's in Ashburn is a close second.

American Flatbread has THE best pizza ... not inexpensive, though.

Thanks for all the recommendations. We had a chance to try Rubino's is Ashburn and was very pleased with there NY style pizza. The place was very busy which, is a good sign. The crust was nice and thin and there were five or six choices for toppings on their pre-made slices. The price was reasonable and the service was good. I would recommend Rubino’s for anyone looking for a good the NY style pizza.

The Village Grill in the Ice Rink Plaza serves a flatbread pizza that is outstanding. Their pizzas are on special on Mondays for only $5. It's the best value I have found in this area.

Another vote for Emilio's. Michaelangelo's (Ex. San Vito) is also close to NY style brick oven pizza.

Anyone who thinks that Giovanni's is good NY style pizza has never been to NY. Dominos is better.

Fireworks is also pretty good. Villa Roma in Leesburg is also OK.

Michaelangelos is no more. I still think Emilios is the best around.....short of making your own.

    1. American Flatbread (I agree with the Peperoni and Peppers rec too!) - However, it is expensive... but it's locally supplied so you're helping Loudoun county farmers. However, this is hands down my FAVORITE.
    2. Tony's in Manassas accross from Costco(I personally like this one better than the one in FairLakes... I think they are owned by relatives so they are similiar. )
    3. Fireworks in Leesburg
    4. Primo Italiano in Plaza America (Whole foods center) in Reston

Broadlands Brick oven is good in a pinch...

    Giovanni's and Manhattan I won't return too.

We've had real NY pizza and I mean from a hole in the wall in the Bronx and someone we know who grew up on the same says Sal's is the real deal.

We know the owner of Rubino's and while their sandwiches are good, their pizza is just okay. Shh, don't tell them I said that.

Tried Sals, tried Rubinos. Don't know what qualifies as "NY Pizza", but Rubinos wins, hands down.
