Patriot is attempting to collect the trash. Since the roads are quite slick they will see what they can do but they are out trying to collect the trash.

Patriot apparently takes furniture every Thursday. Do I need to call them to schedule it or is this an automatic pickup? Meaning, can I just leave my couch and chair out on the curb (for the rest of the cats in the neighborhood to scratch up and pee on) for the trash company to pick it up???

I would call them. It helps them to plan when they know they will have a large pickup.

Patriot will still pick up the paper yard waste bags with the regular trash until April. If you were missed please let us know.

For whatever reason, yesterday they had a truck out to only pick up yard waste bags. Not sure if they are taking it somewhere else to be composted or if LoCo will accept it, but I appreciated the extra effort they appeared to be taking after assuming lots of folks got out and did yard work over the weekend.

I also want to give a shout out to Patriot! Yesterday I was driving behind the old trash company AAA in Brambleton. As they were picking up the bins and dumping the trash, stuff was not making into the truck and blowing all over the street, mostly papers, but the guy didn't even make an attempt to pick it up, even with me right behind him watching! The bins were also replaced haphazardly on a very narrow street of townhomes. Looked nothing like the photo someone had submitted awhile back of a street in Broadlands. Glad we switched!

    Those we my pictures :)

I emailed the pictures to the Patriot owners so they could see for themselves what a great job they did that day. I also made sure to have them thank the crew on behalf of our street and to tell them how great a job they did that day. They were VERY happy to hear some compliments, since it's mostly people who have issues that contact them. They were very appreciative to hear back from satisfied customers.

I would suggest that if anyone ever notices someone go above and beyond what you're used to seeing, go ahead and let them and their managers know. It makes people feel good, gives them credit for something they did well, and encourages them to keep it up. In the end, we all win!

So I called Patriot to let them know about a couch we were putting on the curb tomorrow and the lady said that wood/fabric large items they don't need notice for, but they appreciated the phone call.

She also told me that they were picking up the following on Wednesdays (but only if you call and let them know you have items for pick up) -

    - scrap metal
    - electronics (which they take to an electronics recycling facility)
    - appliances
    - used motor oil
    - car batteries

Their number is 703-257-7100. I (probably because I don't pay attention) didn't realize they accepted these items too, free of charge. That's way cool!

Yep, that was one of the reasons we decided to switch over to Patriot when our previous contract was up. Not only do they offer great 'pickup' services, they place a high regard on customer satisfaction, all the way down to the folks who pickup the trash on our streets (see my post in another thread containing images of how they line up each empty trash bin perfectly on our street).

They also LOVE to hear from happy customers, so it's one thing to call them if they don't meet with your expectations, but I would suggest that some folks take the time to also let them know when they're doing GOOD things.

Just a reminder: Due to the holiday Thursday, Patriot will pick-up recyclables this Saturday, November 24th, beginning at 6AM.
