    Homer-
Regarding your comment "Cliff usually trolls these forums and my posting was toward him. His absence during a time that was pretty darn scary was disconcerting."
I'm flattered I'm such an important concern in your life, but the first time I saw this topic was today, after it was 4 pages long. I agree that these forums are an important way to spread information, but it has minimal impact, since few people read it. It is wholly inappropriate to use it for something time critical like cars being stolen.
Yes, I like these forums, and post often. But I also go days without looking at it, take vacations etc. If something is time critical and relates to the HOA, make a phone call to the HOA office. There is no requirement or responsibility for any member of the HOA or HOA Board to read or respond to anything on the forums.

I would also hope whoever posted on that other forum that was linked in an earlier post will go back and post that this was not the fault of the evil HOA.

    Cliff

P.S. I still luv ya, Homer. Keep up the vigilence!

Back at ya Cliff. Let me point out that you, Neil and Donna are regular posters and you have spoiled us with your quick responses. So we've come to expect to be able to get quick answers from you rather than calling Wes. I do it b/c I feel I know you better than I do Wes. I've talked to the man once. You I've had conversations with.

Also the post in which I said "raise your hand..." was a joke! I wasn't really calling out the HOA. Just trying to liven things up!

Speak for yourself Steve. Other people feel as I do although they may not post b/c they are afraid of being attacked by your diatribes.

The fact is that they do read these forums and they do respond. The evidence is all over the forum. Don't let your personal issues get in the way of the facts. In fact I have emailed the Board on occasion and have gotten results. These forums ar the HOA forums and should be used as such. And I'm not the one who got all in atwist about this, am I? Maybe you should take some stress management courses?

Look it was nothing personal against Stacy. I appreciate her service and I thanked her for her post. You obviously have some personal issue in this and I think I know why. MSFLYNN (Staci) and Flynnibus? Is she Mrs. Flynn? If so I understand your motive and you're defense of her but it's misplaced and no attacks were made on her or the HOA. Two cars being stolen like that is a big issue. A statement should have been put out as soon as it could even if it was "Hey, the HOA is on it". It's summer so people are out of town. Cliff usually trolls these forums and my posting was toward him. His absence during a time that was pretty darn scary was disconcerting. Take this for what you will.

HAHA - I don't start the flame wars. A wise man once said "Never start a fight, but always finish it". I live by that. And for comparing me to Chris? That's a little much since I don't create false personas and I do base alot of assumptions on educated guesses and sometimes actual facts!

As for Deja Vu. I get that every time I read a post from you! You repeat the same arguments and tactics you used against Chris.

Aren't these the HOA forums. It says so on the upper left. Why do we have them then? To sell houses? You're right. What I think does not matter, but when today's technophile kiddies who grew up w/ a transistor instead of a silver spoon come of age it will change. The world already is. I can wait. Although I do agree with you that the forums are unfocused but you can (and have) created stickies where information to the forum is provided.

Back on topic: I too would pay for extra security as long as it's not some gank squad running around harrassing the kids.

Last time I checked, the 14th and the 15th are a 'couple of days', maybe not hour wise...but they are indeed two days.

Perhaps they should, then. Like Homer stated, these are the HOA forums. Why should people have to wait for the newsletter every month to find out what's going on? What is this, 1835...where we're all sittin' 'round the cracker barrel waitin' for the post rider to bring this months dispatch papers with news of whats a'goin' on in the big city!? No, this is the 21st century...we have ways of communicating that don't require paper and ink and the postal service. Sure, this may not be the best way to reach everyone in the community, but it's the fastest way to reach a lot of them.

You say you don't want Wes patrolling the forums 24x7, but I'm sure it woudln't be a stretch to ask for a little official HOA involvment in here from time to time.

An HOA response to 2-cars being stolen in broad day light on the forums is really NOT a lot to ask. Perhaps we have been spoiled by quick responses by VA Cliff, Donna, and Neil, but I agree with Homer. Use the technology you have to get information out as quickly as possible. If not for these forums, I would never know that this happened and I have yet to see it in any paper. This is an HOA sponsored forum, so it is not out in left field for someone from the HOA to respond to a serious crime in our area, especially considering there was a thread where people seemed to be a little hysterical over parked cars and getting them removed. Normally, the forum is pretty quite and if anyone from the HOA can read their email, then they can read the forum too without adding any additional cost that has been suggested here.

Flynnibus – I am not sure how familiar you are with blog and news feeds, but this forum itself can be used as a news feed, why create something else when it is all right here?

They are PROVIDED by the HOA. Just the same way the HOA funds events in the community, trash pick-up, etc.

Would you expect telling something to the trash man would be sufficent to reach the HOA board? Or if you went to a Swim meet and talked to your neighbors thats sufficent to get a response from the HOA Board?

The fact is simple.. this isn't a offical communication channel to the board. Plus, to address yours and the other posters comments about 'it should' or that it reaches enough people.. like I said before, the facts have proven its not sufficent, and has been discussed NUMEROUS times in the committees and with the board on occasion. Maybe things are changing, but the % of people here is still dreadfully low.
Sure.. after someone has already dug through the info :) I'm all for HOA 'broadcasting' info via the website.. but I don't think two-way communication as a expectation is gonna happen.

It's 'the next day'. My point.. 'internet time' is skewed in people's minds. People savvy and who spend alot of time online expect responses much faster online then offline. No one thinks twice if it takes an hour for someone to return your phone call, but if it takes an hour to return an email.. they wonder if you're really there. In this case, people are trying to apply 'online' expectations to a situation that isn't 'online'.

My point being is, keep the expectations realistic.

Then I encourage you to come to the meetings and help sort out how to drive up the exposure of the website to reasonable levels. The next meeting is the 19th I think?

Set an expectation.. and you have to meet it. How can you define 'from time to time' and still meet the expectations people have? You must set a service level expectation. IE 'within 4hrs' 'next business day', etc. My personal opinion.. its fine how it is. Your opinion... I encourage you to go voice it to the people who make the decisions.

I don't think it is unreasonable for the HOA to post items of interest on these forums. It is certainly a quick way to disseminate information. Even if a large percentage of the community does not actively post on these forums, a lot of people casually view them.

However, I think it is unreasonable for the HOA to take abuse for delaying a response in this case. Really. We're talking about a 31 hour period from the first post to msflynn's post. Hardly negligent.

I would much rather have them spend their time working with the police during the first few crucial hours (or the first day) of an incident like this. Furthermore, I would suspect that it is not currently in the HOA's charter/job description to keep the community informed of events through these forums. Maybe this is something that could/should be proposed for the future, but until it is I think we should cut the HOA a little slack.

The HOA DID! The 'worry' is it took so long. Know how Staci found out about it? From talking to people and seeing it here. Remember, Wes is the only one who is 'on duty', the rest aren't sitting by their scanners or something waiting for the latest blurb :)

Email is direct, requires no browsing. Different.

What difference is a RSS feed if the information isn't filtered or prioritized? So they get the topic of each new post?? That's not helpful in filtering significance.

Either way.. I'm leaving for vacation.. so I expect all these problems resolved. Criminals in Jail.. the forums read by every homeowner hourly.. and Wes having an neural implant with the forums by the time I get back! ;)

    Enjoy!

Yes, at times I do love it and at times I will participate (I MISS CHRIS!) :D

But I am treating this "debate" between you and Steve as I would a hockey fight - 3rd man in is always ejected! [B)]

The Technology Committee is meeting this Monday night at 7:30 at the Community Center to talk about switching to a new website with portal features.

These types of issues are exactly the type of input we need, so please come to the meeting to help us make a better website. All are welcome, free pizza!

OMG! I just had to respond. I am a stay-at-home mom and just the other day (I can't remember which exactly), there were two people in a black tow truck driving down my street! I was on my way to our mailbox and got a decent look at the truck and thought how strange for them to be driving so slow in our neighborhood. Now, I am just wondering if that was them!!!! The tow truck was black with purple writing on it...

No, I didn't. The writing was script though and looked airbrushed if that makes sense. They were going so slow and I felt like they were casing my neighborhood... I can't believe I am reading this and really want to go lock all my doors...

Ya, thats bodyworks. They did repair work on my car about a year ago and the flatbed they had was black with "Bodyworks" in a purple/pinkish color.
BTW, the tow job they did was great, took real good care of the car, but their repair worked....well, lets just say it took them about 3 months to repair and even then I had to sell the car because the work was so bad....:(

Your car probably needed fixing during an unlucky time, when they weren't able to tow any good cars for parts. ;)[:p]

I hope you marked all of your parts with a UV reactive marker so you could ID them under a blacklight. :)
