HCA had a community meeting at the Broadlands Community Center last night. I was encouraged, but surprised, that all of those in attendance support the project.

Cliff, I call upon you to honor the survey results which show that Broadlands residents do not want this hospital. Start representing the desire of the residents of Broadlands and not the executives and shareholders of HCA.

We have two commumnity announcement boards, one at the entry of B-lands at the Greenway and the other at the community center pool. Why was it not announced on these boards? :-/

My desire is that HCA build the hospital in Broadlands, so he is representing the desire of the residents of Broadlands...:D

That does seem to be the logic Cliff and his HOA cronies have been using (as evidenced by that absurd 1 1/2 page talking points memo they stuck in the newsletter a few months ago).

The announcement for the meeting was a letter mailed out to all residences of Broadlands. That's how I found out about it. I don't know if they contacted the HOA office and asked them to put it on the boards.
The number attending this meeting was similar to the last several that have been held here, which is small. The big meeting they held at Mill Run, which was advertised via the Community Boards, mailers to Broadlands and Ashburn Farm, and in the local paper, netted about 8 people. The last meeting at Eagle Ridge, advertised on the community boards as well as mailers, had about 20 people. This past meeting had about the same. You can interpret this how you want, but it indicates to me that this is not a big issue for most of the community.
    Coopstar-
In ALL communications I have had with Loudoun officials about the survey results, I have indicated the numbers we received. 39 more opposed than favored the hospital.
Brooks5- Ah,,,yes......All us cronies hover down in the Broadlands dungeons and conspire evil ways to thwart the desires of unsuspecting residents such as yourself.........:D

Don't know if you're hanging out in dungeons or not Cliff, but no matter how you slice it, that stuff you guys spewed in the newsletter was a disgrace. Clearly dishonest. Also pretty insulting. If you think a mental hospital is such a great thing for this neighborhood, go ahead and say so. But don't try to tell us the psychiatric inpatients are going to be a bunch of anorexic teens and kids with ADHD. (Is that what you told the real estate agents you surveyed as well? After all, who could object to living next to the Olsen twins?)

In any event, go ahead and enjoy your 15 minutes of fame as HCA's mouthpiece. (Just a thought, but what are the odds they'll also quote my feelings on their website, as they did yours?)

Why would anybody that is opposed to the hospital waste their time listening to HCA's rhetoric?

I would like to clarify something mentioned about the tree buffer that everyone who supports HCA seems to think is going to cover the building from view (or at least obscure it substantially). This was discussed at the last task force meeting...remember that they are saying they will put a line of trees in to help with the buffer, but my understanding is that those trees are going to be young small trees... Not mature trees. With this in mind it will take 10 to 20 years to have a buffer that we are supposed to believe they are providing in all of their renderings of what the entrance view will look like.

Cliff, at the HCA meeting how many people were in attendance? I hear the 2 meetings held on the 29th and the 30th went very well and that HCA had limited support in the audience, that the majority of those attending those planning commission meetings were FOR the CPAM and against HCAs plan to build in Broadlands.

What Donna says about the tree growth is correct. Just remember that the same applies also to any office complex that is built instead of the hospital.

AFGM, Still waiting to hear from you on my invitation (and my treat) to meet and discuss the hospital. I don't know if you are aware that I have recently been elected to the Broadlands HOA, I understand (and correct me if I'm wrong Glen) that you are the president of the Ashburn Board of Trustees. Knowing that I think it would be an informative meeting for both of us. BTW I hope you were able to sell your French horn.

Disclaimer: The views I express are my views alone and not necessarily those of LHC. For those of you that are new to this forum, I would like to state that I have been against HCA since an article first appeared in the Washington Post 2 1/2 years ago. I was in medical sales dealing with physicians for 20 years and joined (Jan 2004) LHC as a physician liaison. My stance against HCA regardless of my employeer has not changed. A hospital in Broadlands is not needed as it is a redundant and unnecessary duplication of medical services.

Redundant and unnecessary??? Then why so many re-routes to other hospitals when Loudoun, in many cases, is easily the closest hospital around?

I will agree with you Donna that the CPAM is a good idea. But it should have been but in place several years ago when our population first started booming, NOT when a proposed hospital (competitor) was introduced into the equation.

As I see it, HCA can provide a hospital with a due date. If not HCA now, Who and When?

I don't recall getting any announcement to the HCA meeting. Are you sure it wasn't just sent to the people on the HCA support mailing list?

There are no re-routes to other hospitals now that cornwall is open and running.
T8, you need to do some homework and preferably not with HCA people...
I did not get an announcement in the mail
If we have a business in place of the hospital, it will be a daytime business. Traffic will only be in the day time.
A hospital will have trucks and cars driving all over Broadlands at all hours of the day and night...They will drive through B-lands to the circle K to gas up, they will drive by your house at 3 in the morning.... uniform delivery, medical equipment, food delivery for the cafeteria. Broadlands will be a busy place 24/7.
My daughter graduates in two years and we are moving. So I wont even see what is being built on that spot. When we bought here we were told that a small facility would be built there, not a hospital. This thing just sort of exploded and I believe it is greed.

Does this mean there are no "re-routes" between the Lansdowne and Cornwall ERs? These may not be considered (or counted as) re-routes if it's between LHC campuses. However, if someone living in Ashburn Farms winds up at the Cornwall ER or someone living in Leesburg winds up at the Lansdowne ER, they probably consider it a re-route since they didn't go to the closest ER.

Does LHC consider this type of "re-route" between campuses as a re-route when compiling their stats?
