I am writing to those who walk their dogs. Please remember that allowing your dog to urinate on bushes and trees *will* lead to the demise of the plant material. I for one enjoy coming home to lovely trees, flowers, and shrubs. Please consider walking your pet in grass-only areas. And for heavens sake...pick up the doo-doo! :rolleyes3:

i dunno on this one- i scoop lotsa poop, i only walk him on the trails or on the curb grass- not in folks' yards- but no way could i stop the little guy from lifting his leg and marking every bussh, tree, overgrown root and hydrant that he sees. isn't that in a dog's nature to mark things?

this sounds a bit unreasonable to me- i do keep him out of yards, so he doesn't do any business in anyone's yard, so if you mean the shrubs and flowers on lawn landscaping- i can follow that easily. but the curb grass, mailbox foliage, and other areas out of the aCTUAL yards- he's gotta leave a dribble!

I am talking about the actual landscaping...some of the rose bushes along Village Drive, for instance, are dying primarily because of this "activity." The little tree in *my* front lawn appears to be a prime potty station, too. Dog urine is notorious for its ability to kill plant material.

I am simply asking that your pet (s) not be allowed to potty on live plant material...other than the grass, regardless of urges.:nono:

My wife and I are very careful with our dog. We only allow him to go to the bathroom where he won't do damage to peoples yards. We try to keep it around areas where the doggy bags are. It's not that hard to train.

I believe that dogs should not be allowed to go wherever they want. Marking is a dominant behavior. That is why service dogs are trained to go when they are told to. Of course I also subscribe to the I walk the dog not the dog walks me crowd.

Oh, Brother...There is always someone who wants to try to "put you in your place."

It's a simple request. Dogs do what their owners allow them to do. I do believe that reasonable people (not those who spend their time trying to "win" arguments") will see this post and think twice before allowing their four-footed friend (of which I have two) lift on anything and everything. *I* use a leash...that's how and why my little ones "go" where I want them to.

And yes, I do expect them, their owners, to pick up after their dogs, too. We share this community and I don't think it is unrealistic to expect people to be respectful. Perhaps in your world everyone is self absorbed, but many of the rest of us do actually bother to consider others.

Go head, I expect you'll self destruct if you don't get in the last word, but I won't be responding. :rolleyes3: Nuf said.

OBVIOUSLY you don't know me at all- i only need the last word when i am RIGHT. lol :)

this is simply a diff of a opinion of what's REALISTIC behavior to expect in this 'hood. read the poop scoop thread- youll see that it is NOT realistic to expect- in this neighborhood with self centered owners who won't even pick up PILES- to care about their dog peeing on rose bushes and trees. i'm not saying you don't have a good point about pee killing plants, i'm just saying they aren't going to do anything about it.

i believe a small % of dog owners will and possibly already adhere to what you are requesting. most ppl simply don't train their dogs to THAT level.

i do consider my pooch well trained, and he DOES go on command- typically in our yard prior to our walk- i took that advice from soneone in HERE by the way!!

but he also leaves a squirt on every upright thing that he passes. i've never tried NOT to make him do it- never even considered it an issue until i saw your post!

we both made our points- there really isn't anything left to say. ppl will do it or they won't. only the condition of the plants will tell the tail... er- TALE. lol

lighten up a little mom2myjays- nothing wrong with healthy debate and diff of opinon. :) THAT's what the board is for.

I'm surprised we haven't heard about the dog pee crisis and several new laws enacted to curb this growing problem.

Ditto - Your dogs can pee on my bushes in the front yard! Their hideous and about to get taken out! If they were dead it would make it that much easier to take them out.

I see this thread spiraling far enough for someone to suggest doggie diapers.

I understand not wanting peoples dogs to not pee on your yard or your plants, I don't want the neighbors kids to throw their trash in my yard. But they are kids and their parents dont seem to care, just like dogs are dogs and most dog owners in this area think they should be allowed to let their dogs do whatever, whenever and however (same goes for a good number of parents).

Didn't Al Gore say it was the cause of Global Warming? Or is dog pee W's fault?

Nuf said? haven't heard that one in quite some time. I know you're not referring to Redon as being self absorbed. If that's the case, I suggest you stop worrying about dog pee and get out and meet you neighbors.

My dog only goes potty at home. She knows that walks are for exercise, and uses one area of our yard for #1, and another for #2.

The problem with one dog marking a bush is that every other dog will put his scent on it too!!!

I would place moth balls around your tree - trust me NO dog or animal will want to "mark" - just be mindful if you have a little one as the moth balls are toxic
