You have to pick your battles and this is not the path we choose to take to resolve this issue. As for the prickly pear, yes he is definitely that and he's also teaching his son to behave the same way. Their wayward child is walking a dog that hasn't a clue there's a difference between grass in one yard and grass in another. Poor doggie.

Will try the baking soda to neutralize the urine and hopefully reduce the burn.

That's rude too because the small strip abuts the sidewalk and someones yard.

Why are people always looking for excuses for laziness?

So I guess the solution is that people shouldn't walk their dogs on sidewalks...quickly get them to the woods or common area....geesh

i vote for people who don't want dogs peeing on grass either a) live where no dogs are walked, like a pipe stem or b) don't have any grass. or c) live ina condo and let the grass be someone else's problem.

Gee, and I thought not having a dog of my own would be enough.

nope! :) lol now if you live where I live, no dogs are walked past your home. but then we have a different set of issues with teen vandals...

I DO consider myself a considerate dog owner- he doesn't pee on flowers, he doesn't go onto actual lawns unless invited. i alwsy scoop his poop. i don't always use the trails because I sometimes they are really buggy and i haate bugs. he does go in our yard before walks, but he is a "marker" and drizzles constantly to let his doggy friends know where he was. i think it's unreasonable to expect people not to use the strip of grass between the street and sidewalk.

if i was THAT picky about the grass, i would never buy home that had a lot of public access and walk-by traffic. it comes with the territory when you live in a 'hood like this- kids will spit gum in your yard, dogs will pee on your grass.

I vote for living in the United States where we have property rights - which include the right to control who is on our property - dogs included.

There are no 'doggies gotta go' rights.

The fact a dog has to go does not supercede our property rights - which is a fundamental concept of our country's founding.

So when someone doesn't want dogs pissing in their yard - no matter where they live relative to other people - they have that right.

How many of you would feel if a jogger just started pissing in your yard as he passed by?

it's not about rights, it's about realistic expectations. it's normal for a dog to pee where another dog has peed.

a jogger whipping it out and whizzing? not so much. that's taking it to the ridiculous.

again- if THAT is a bugaboo of yours- why live where there is so much foot traffic past your home? buy a few acres. buy where neighbors won't annoy you by letting a dog tinkle on the grass near the road. you HAVE to know when you buy a house with a SIDEWALK in front of that people are gonna use it to walk pets. get a sign that says "dog pee is not welcome here."

It's absolutely about rights. Unalienable rights.

Otherwise, you allow a small group to have unlimited power and decide what is the "common good."

It's a false choice-type of argument and a fairly sad statement on American society in this century.

Wow. And I thought we were doing the right thing. I never walk on the side of the street that doesn't have a sidewalk, although I have seen other people do that. Isn't the strip of grass a VDOT right of way of some sort?? Maybe people that are that offended should buy homes on the side without the sidewalk. Or, maybe they should fence in that strip. Or, maybe we shouldn't be allowed to walk on the sidewalks of Broadlands at all??

right of ways and easements are about access and privileged to do stuff - even though they don't own the property - it doesn't change who owns it.

For most people its a non-issue, but simply because others don't mind doesn't take away your rights. Because I let neighbors play in my yard does not mean EVERYONE must allow their neighbors in their yard.

Only if the owner allows that dog to be there in the first place.

As to your property and your right to control it - it's exactly the same. It illustrates your tolerance due to how you view dogs differently. But someone's right to keep you off their property doesn't change if it's a dog or a person - or someone's expectations that their neighbors or fellow citizens would respect their property or wishes.

Why should someone half to move away from other people rather then expect what is owed to them by the law and the founding principles of this country? You're describing running away vs. standing up for what is rightfully yours.

I agree if you don't want to be concerned with others - move away from other people. But to say because you have neighbors you should expect to give up your rights is absurd.

And haven't we already gotten past that when the owner confronts the dog owner??

I agree...maybe they expect us dog owners to carry a cup with us to hold under our dog....I'm with Redon, I'm done with this

Tyger31, Great idea. In addition to the poop bags we carry, maybe the HOA can look into pee cups to add to the bag stands. I am sure that would be easy for us...
