You're preaching to the choir here, the resident HOA board members all read these forums, and agree with you 100%. The non-resident (Van Metre) don't bother. We get the same answers every time, we're waiting for this, or that.

I did notice that the pedestrian crosswalk lights are not in at Broadlands yet, they have yet to be installed.

About that accident, was it caused by some idiot who does not understand that you don't do a 'california stop' at a 4-way; or some Darwin Award candidate that was too busy on the cell phone to notice the stop.

Hey Neil I take offense to that when I lived in California I think we called it a New York stop. :D

As I said last year we would be lucky if they were in the first quarter of 2006 and I was serious.

Now wait to some idiot runs one of those lights when working and hurts or kills a pedestrian and wipes out a family in a car!!!!!!!!!! :(

I agree ... there are lights at the three most dangerous intersections in Loudoun County, which all intersect Rt 7.

    1. Ashburn Road
    2. Belmont Ridge
    3. Ashburn Village Pkwy

The cause of most accidents, people trying to 'beat the light' .

It is probably not a stretch that most accidents in communities like ours are a result of a lack of attention or STUPIDITY. Just because a light gets installed doesn't mean our accident rate will go down.
I sure hope the lights do prevent any accidents but it is just as easy to run a Stop sign as it is a Red light when you are gabbing on the phone, reading a newspaper, drinking your coffee, putting on make-up or yelling at the kids!

Please drive carefully and remember, your mileage may vary.

I agree that the accident rate probably won't go down - but how 'bout our sanity sitting in a loooooong line at the 4-way stop at Claiborne and Broadlands Ave. during rush hour in the evening?!

yeah.. sit in a long line for a short period of time... or sit at a light potentially every day of the week anytime of day :(

personally I'm dreading the lights coming in.. unless they have really good timing/sensing setups.

If the other new light are any indication, they will not be timed and Broadlands Blvd will have precedence of Claiborne. :(

I am with you. The light will truly only be needed during morning and afternoon rush hours.
It would be nice if they can make it a blinking yellow/red for most of the wee hours of the morning.

I can't believe this discussion has gone from (a) we must have a light at that intersection to (b) that light is taking too long to (c) we don't want a light there.

BTW I'm in favor of anything other than the free-for-all that is there now!

Audrey - I agree with you on this one!!! We need this light, but people will complain about it no matter what. I 'm so tired of the free for all right now at the 4-way stop signs!

I've never changed.. I thought the intersection was fine with only one side with a stop. The problem is the idiots would couldn't navigate a simple intersection.. so they put 4 way stops up.. and now we have people who can't figure that out either.

Now with broadlands blvd with on it.. a light will be needed.. but it needs to be setup knowing that broadlands blvd is a CROSS road.. and hopefully not hang up everyone on claibourne all the time.

    Steve-

Your experience probably is connected to the Claiborne/Ashburn Farm Pkwy light, where Ashburn Farm Pkwy has the precedence in timing. I imagine it is timed this way b/c it is an east/west connector, meaning more commuters (I'm not saying this is accurate, it's just my best guess).

I agree that hopefully they realize that Broadlands Blvd is simply a connector road, not a real east/west corridor, and Claiborne will have the priority in the signalization.

I disagree. I think the light at Broadlands Blvd is needed more than the one at Waxpool. Long BEFORE the Saul center opened, there were several bad accidents at that intersection. A co-worker of mine lives on Hidden Pond and back up to that corner. She kept me filled in on all the accidents there.

the people who got in accidents at waxpool/claibourne (at their fault) shouldn't be driving period. You can see for a freakin bloody half mile or more clearly everywhere in that intersection. People simply weren't paying attention or.. were simply unfit to drive if you got in an accident there because you misguaged someone.

At Broadlands Blvd before there was cross traffic from west to east heavily.. a stop at broadlands blvd was enough. Now with the community on both sides and the shopping center.. there is alot more cross traffic.

I can't believe it - they were actually working on the Broadlands/Claiborne walk signals this morning (on a Saturday) in the rain!! What's up with that? Maybe we're getting close.

they were running what appeared to be all the cabling to the lights on Friday morning. Amazing how they even phathomed a 'estimate' of Dec 17 last year. So many things that were not done.. even till now.

It looks to me like they completed all of the hardware today. Now, maybe it's just a matter of getting power to the lights. Who knows...

Yup ... all the pedestrian lights and push buttons are in, and it looks like the controller case is installed (not sure of the electronics), but it does look like they just need to power it up, do some tests, then program it to start flashing on a Monday.

    New install: Street signs.

I'm sure that's what was holding it up. Goodness knows, you can't turn them on without posting "Broadlands Blvd" and "Claiborne Pkwy" signs on them.

Sorry to be cynical - this is a running bet in our house. I've got November 2006 in the pool.
