Between the two Giants in Ashburn, Wegmans, the forthcoming Harris-Teeter (in Brambleton?), and Food Lion/Shoppers/Costco option, I do not think this Safeway can survive.

I don't care what she is. There is no excuse for rudeness! If she gives my kid gum one more time without asking I will scream! Seriously though she is cognitively delayed and there, I believe on a work study program. So that's her excuse what about the other cashiers and check out people? On three separate occasions items have been left out of my bags. One time I called the manager and he actually delivered my shallots. But frankly it just isn’t worth the effort. We have been using Peapod delivery for the past month and a half. They charge $4.95 for delivery and I still spend less each week. I highly recommend it. They arrive, carry the groceries into the kitchen, and put them on the counter. Love it! :)

I guess I am the exception to this thread. I love this Safeway. I haven't had one bad experience there. They always have what I need. There is never a line, and I haven't had a rude clerk yet. I have used the Safeway deli to get platters for parties; everything went well. I haven't purchased any expired food from them, or any bad over-the-counter medication (however I have never used the Pharmacy). If I have the time and patience I will shop at Wegman's because it seems less expensive than Safeway. But I usually don't have the time or the patience and I hate crowds. So I go to Wegman's about once a month. I wouldn't mind having a Harris Teeter nearby. I like their product selection. If Safeway were to close, I would probably shop mostly at the Harris Teeter near my office in Arlington.

I hope it makes it. If it doesn't, we'll be stuck with an eyesore empty anchor store in the shopping center. I mean, it's not very easy for another business to move into a vacated grocery store or wal-mart.

I don't have much to complain about this safeway, but I'm not that happy about the store at the same time. As it was mentioned earlier, their produce section is absolutely rediculous ! Never have fresh veggie nor fruits and they are always OUT OF STOCK !!!
I just shop at Costco and Wegmans,, Sure,, bit farther out, but worth the traveling time...

Not trying to change subjects here, but when do you shop? We typically go to Wegmans around 8:30 PM in the middle of the week. Compared to weekends, there are far fewer shoppers and much quicker checkout lines!

Yelp I too worked at good old Dietrick. Some of the locals that worked there were scary. Lucky for me I didn't have to work downstairs in dishwashing. If Safeway does go out of business I would love a gym to move in.

They never have limes either! I mean, what's a Corona without a slice of lime?

Hmmm, thought it was just me. When they first opened, I had to literally instruct the cashier (man) what 40% of my items were (i.e., that's a MacIntosh apple, that's a kiwi). I just took a deep breath and wished I had known the names of the least expensive fruit...he never would have known the difference!

I was the Supervisor of T&C in '91-'92. I liked working down in dishwashing. It was kinda like that movie with the Mole people. Lol!

Hmmm, I dont see anything wrong with what he said. PC in today's society really pisses me off sometimes. I feel like I cant say anything to anyone these days without being afraid to "hurt" someones feelings. Or to "include" them in a minority or genaralize them into a group without somebody "reading" a different meaning into it. People are too sensitive and quick to think the worst when somebody says something. My view is, say what you got to say and be done with it. As long as your INTENTION is not to hurt someone, there is absolutely nothing wrong with what was said as long as it is the truth.
Im not busting your chops sunny, Im just not happy with society and their pettiness at times.

Sorry, I just dont see anything wrong with what was said.

I personally like the Safeway in Broadlands. I had nothing but excellent experiences with the pharmacy, once time I had a problem because my insurance information had changed and the staff went out of their way to resolve it. At Giant they don't ever want to call the insurance, they just want to charge you full price. I had one issue at Safeway where they did not have a birhday cake I had ordered. Since it wasn't for a kid it wasn't that big of an issue, a little disappointing. They gave me multiple cakes for free, worth about twice as much as the birthday cake would have been.

I admit that some of the employees there are really subpar. They had someone in the Starbucks at first who I absolutely did not want to touch my coffee, but that person is gone. I still prefer the Giant Starbucks, but at least now if I get a craving while shopping I don't have to get grossed out anymore.

Do I prefer Wegmans? Of course. But it is a longer drive and endless lines.

It's interesting...I never paid much attention to the condition and status of Safeway until reading this thread but it has been a real eye-opener. My husband and I went to Safeway last night and I now noticed I had to watch carefully when buying onions. All of the red onions were rotten -- every single one of them!

We have been using Safeway since it has opened due to the convenience and have found the few cashiers whom we like best. Yes, some of them make it clear to all that they are not happy being there working.

I do like Wegmann's but I think overall it is more expensive than Safeway. Our ultimate preference is Costco but then we have to buy so much in bulk and there's only the two of us. Anyone interested in any kind of a food-coop?

I love the crew in the real Starbucks on the corner. They give me hope for the kids being raised here to not turn ot to be snotty, arrogant jerks who noise pollute by drag racing up and down Claiborne in their tricked out hotrods that they obviously didn't buy w/o help from Mummy and Daddy.

Plus I think they do a better job w/ the coffee. In safeway it's not as hot.

Thanks, I agree with you. I hate having to verbally tiptoe around everyone nowadays, too...always wondering who's going to take offense to whatever you happen to say. Frankly, I don't care...but it seems there are some folks on here who are super-sensitive so I try to watch how I word things.

The crew inside may be cool, but I always see a bunch of punks hanging around outside in the parking lot or at the tables outside the door...stereos blasting and revving cars. Cripes, I sound old... :(

They DEFINITELY do a better job. The Safeway Starbucks is run by Safeway employees and I don't think they get the same training as the "real" Starbucks employees.

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one having problems with this store. I guess misery loves company…… My wife and I have bought items that were expired, despite trying to read every exp. label because we got burned once before. I've also found the lack of cashiers during certain times to be frustrating and the attitude of some of them is lack luster. I had to say something one time because the girl bagging the groceries was just tossing things around. I think it all stems from lack of employees and possibly low revenue from the new location.....

Might have to start going down the road to Giant again until some improvements are made....

    Thanks,

    Steven
