We had a mouse infestation in our house. It is something I would not wish on an enemy.

We had to throw away pretty much all our food, and in the process, I became quite the connoisseur of mouse nibblings.

I was in the Safeway and I noticed that a batch of smoothie mixes were nibbled. I informed the assistant manager and they at least removed the nibbled packages from the shelves.

One can only hope that they addressed the problem in the back room.

There is a considerable difference between how a mouse nibbles and how a kid nibbles. :)

I've hardly ever gotten anything expired or even close to it at Safeway. We shop there often.

Last night when I was there they had started some kind of random giveaway. In the short time I was in the store they gave away 2 ipods and a starbucks drink. I asked the cashier about it, he said it started on Saturday and was unsure how long it would be going on. And they are by no means having a lack of customers, place was packed.

After a crazy busy day a couple weeks ago, I ran into Safeway to find something quick for dinner. I found some frozen entrees that were on special 2 for $7 and was about to grab them when I noticed the expiration date - MAY 2008. WTH??!?

I honestly wish Safeway well but they really need to be more cognizant of expiration dates, cleanliness and teaching their employees how to rotate stock. Ever since I came home with a bottle of expired medicine, I ALWAYS check the dates on EVERYTHING.

I am sure they were busier over the weekend since it was their Grand Re-opening and they were giving away free stuff. Until I see a considerable improvement, I will continue to treat Safeway as a 7-11 and use the other stores for bigger trips. Isn't it great that we have choices??

Out of date food is bad enough, but expired medication? If that were me, I would have contacted some state office. Selling expired medication can not be allowed. (selling expired food should not be allowed either) Shoot selling anything that is expired should not be acceptable. :angryfire:

Yep - expired Excedrin - and it was 2004 - so you can see this has been an ongoing problem. Here's the thread - http://www.broadlandshoa.org/hoaforum/showthread.php?t=908

As an EMT we used to get a lot of calls during the day for grocery stores and restaurants. The public is best served by them NOT knowing what happens behind the door.

You're right on - and you don't want to hear my horror stories from when I used to work in a large teaching hospital in WNY either. Best left unsaid!

Ok, I have to ask this question. Has anyone spoken to the store management about the issue...better yet, gone up a bit higher than the in-store management? Also, perhaps there is a way to print out these 3 pages and take them to the management so they can really see everything we are yakking about and then they will really know how wide of an impact this actually has on their shoppers as well as their reputation.

yes- that is the best route to fixing a problem. which is why i told local management and then went to regional managment about rotten herbs i had purchased. i posted the response i got back then on here somewhere, but it amounted to- "Sorry that happened, thanks for your feedback." the end.

i don't look at this board to SOLVE any problems, it's a way to let others know what's out there.

i KNOW you KNOW! i'm not sure how much their recent overhaul is related to a barrage of complaints, but i have to say i HATE their new layout. drinks spread out among 4 isles, snacks separated, some pasta here, some there- it's the most annoying layout EVER.

and i am STILL not over the time I went specifically for Ricotta cheese and they had NONE. 6 kinds of cottage cheese, but no ricotta. NOT. OVER. IT. :redmad:

We went to the local store management about several expired products and even took it up to the corporate management and redon's paraphrase of their response is spot on. It's like they don't care. I asked my mom if she ever experiences this at her Safeway (in Sterling) and she said she doesn't. It's frustrating as all get out!!!!!

You need to buy fresh Ricotta from an Italian market...of which I have found NONE here...maybe Baltimore, but haven't checked that out. I always bring it fresh from WNY when I'm up there visiting, along with homemade HOT Italian sausage, fresh pecorino cheese...ah how I miss the Italian markets.
