Well killer_bee, I am glad we can both keep this debate in perspective. Obviously we disagree on both alcohol and health care in Broadlands, but we both know which is more important. :)

JT and SD: Thank you! I agree that active, civilized (and sometimes heated) debate is part of the democratic process. So, I think that this forum encourages healthy conversation. However, it would be much nicer if everyone just made it simple and agreed with MY views. Come on, that would be the Stepford thing to do, right?

Safeway will be opening in October. There will be a Starbucks Coffee bar inside of the store.

Yippee -- finally, a Starbucks within walking distance. This is something to cheer about! :D

...except that they are Safeway employees running it, not Starbucks employees.

I was talking with someone who said that they inquired about leasing space in the shopping center and was told that they are completely leased! Maybe that will speed up construction of Phase 2?!

Also, we received a flyer today from this company which is opening a womens-only workout facility there in October,

    Tech Head-
I believe that due to the response to leases, Saul is going to immediately begin construction of Phase 2, rather than waiting.

I would like to see a gymboree as opposed to the little gym up the street and a 24 hour pharmacy! Bookstore and post office.

I wonder if they have leased the two restaurant pad sites. We really need more quality, family-friendly sit-down restaurants in Ashburn.

More restaurants would be great -- hopefully something nicer than the Ruby Tuesday that the Village got.

While smaller owned "family" owned restaurants are a dream, reality is it probably won't happen. A bummer because these places are dying out. I wouldn't mind a crackerbarrel.

I'd be happy enough if they just hurried up and put in CLYDES!!! That has taken forever.

Yeah, does anybody know the status of the Clyde's? I see that they are putting an access road in there but I don't know if that's just for the School Administration Building or for Clyde's. There's a rumor floating around that Clyde's is backing out. Weren't they supposed to have started construction by now? Does anybody know for sure?

    Tech Head-
Clyde's is DEFINITELY still coming. They did have a delay because they had to go back to the county for a change in the zoning. They had to rotate the building slightly and the mezzanine level had more square footage than their approval, so that had to be amended. I do agree that the entrance road construction does seem to be moving slowly.
Killer_Bee- seeing that you are so happy about Clyde's, I'm surprised you oppose the hospital. With both, all the drunks driving around our community after leaving Clyde's will have a short ambulance ride to the hospital!

I'm sure you know that Clydes has an excellent bar and makes the best Martini's. I for one look forward to walking to Clydes, having a drink, walking over to Starbucks, get a Caramel Mach, walk over to ABC, make the Carl Mach an Irish Carl Mach, then walk over to Matress Discounters and test out a few matresses. Then when I get all good a liqoured up I can rant at the schoolboard while I walk to Broadlands Hospital. ;)

VACLIFF: With Loudoun Hospital less than five minutes away, the trip is short enough.

The website now says, "Opening November, 2003." By the looks of the progress, I would say some businesses will open before then.

I would really rather buy and drink alcohol at home than have to drive 20 miles to get drunk and have to drive back. I don't think Majority of the residents in BL are alcoholics but it is conveniently there if you need it for a party and such.

But Mattress Discounters?? That one i'll drive to Sterling for.

I would like to make a comment about the ABC store, I do not think it matters whether or not there is
a liquor store in our neighborhood or not, it matters what an individual decides to do. Its an individuals
choice whether to drink or not and its up to us to teach our kids not to. If you do not like a store, just
don't go there. Its as simple as that.
