    RANT:

To the drivers who "drop" their kids off, there is a NO PARKING sign due to the the Fire Lane (you know the fire hydrant that is blocked by the parental AM Rush) on Ridgeway. I am SICK of seeing you ignore the road sign and making a hazard for pedestrian/motor traffic. Seriously is 15' too far for your kid to walk?

And while I am at venting, doing a three point turn @ Mapleton is pretty stupid and creates yet another dangerous situation from those coming down the hill on Ridgeway. Don't get me started about using other people's driveways to make your three point turn.

A special note: to the Cream Cadillac Escalade driver that clipped my knee this morning, thank you for the football size bruise on my left knee cap. I reported your license plate to the police. You don't hit a pedestrian, look them in the eye in horror and then take off at a high rate of speed.

I hope next week the LSCO is out in full force and tickets every single driver/parent that ignores the NO PARKING sign in the fire lane.

The drop-off line at Hillside is sometimes chaotic, but GEEZ....

If they actually hit you, why are you not pressing charges ?

Because they took off after the impact. I called the police, my orthopedic had to drain the fluid/blood from my knee (earlier today) and will be faxing the report to the police, per their request.

I am hoping that the police catch this :censored: woman driving the Creme Escalade and throw the book at her.

Yeah, seems like they could just stake out the school one morning - she has to take her kids there I guess. You could drive around the Mill Run neighborhoods and see if you can find her house.

Here is a picture of what my knee/thigh looks like after the Dr drained my knee. The incident took place at the sidewalk of Mapleton & Ridgeway at 7:48 this morning. I had a partial plate the only thing distinguishable about the Caddy is it has a white family sticker on the lower right back window. (The sticker has the mom, dad and three kids in a cartoonish font). You better believe I will request the LCSO press as many chargers as possible.

I noticed that the "additional $200 speeding fine" sign is up on Laurier. They can now start issuing the tickets.

lilpea, I am so sorry to hear about your injury. I hope you recover soon. The County had promised us folks in Broadlands South that traffic would ease up on Ridgeway once the $200 fine for speeding in a school zone was posted. Their reasoning...the mandatory $200 fine would bring out law enforcement because that fine is NOT negotiable in court. The more police presence, the more apt people are to obey the rules. This is not for the occasional driver on the street but for people who drive it everyday. Since the $200 fine has been posted Officer Nugent of the Loudoun County Sheriff's department has refused to send patrols to this street because there was no sign posted on Laurier Drive. His logic is that people coming from the Villages of Waxpool onto Ridgeway aren't able to see the fines so it's harder to enforce. I don't understand that logic since people speed coming up Ridgeway from Wynridge and Claiborne and the $200 sign is clearly posted. You should call the Loudoun County Sheriff's department and request once again someone come out here, especially in the morning. Now that there are mandatory $200 fine signs posted on Ridgeway, Laurier and Stone Hollow there should be no more excuses. From the recent BOS meetings it appears our county can use all the revenue it can it get. If that's the case, Ridgeway should be a cash cow.

The reason was because people coming in from Laurier would not know about the additional fine. But now that problem is solved.

Yes, I get that. People entering Ridgeway from the Villages of Waxpool would not know about the fine. What I don't understand is how the signs posted at Laurier and Ridgeway are somehow interdependent. If a person is traveling on Claiborne and Wynridge and enters the Broadlands South neighborhood on Ridgeway from that intersection, the sign for imposing a mandatory $200 fine is clearly posted.

I am so sorry that this has happened to you! The women who hit you should be a shamed of herself! If that were a child on their way to school her Escalade could have run them over, thats a big truck! I can believe that she looked at you a drove off, it does not surprise me at all. We have complained to the school board and to the LCPD and they will not do a thing about it. We walk our kids to school every morning and have to deal with all the ignorant people who ignore the no parking signs. They pull up every morning and park smack in the no parking lane. If the lane is already filled with 7-10 cars then they double park. They get out of their cars and walk their children into school. Then they either u-turn into Mapleton Court or a driveway including ours! When they u-turn they don't even look to see if kids are crossing to get to school. When the kids cross they can't even get up on the sidewalk because, all the idiots have blocked the sidewalk. It really sad that people like that live in our community and think that they are so much more important than everyone else! I hope they find out who it is that hit you and that she pays the price, she deserves it! Hopefully we should see the LCPD out here tomorrow morning giving tickets to all the fools who park there every morning!

Be careful LilPea, least you anger the people that feel they have the right to park anywhere they want. These people don't take kindly to others trying to help them remember what a 'No Parking' sign is for. They feel it doesn't hurt anything and if we all minded our own business this would be a better world. Oh wait, you got hurt you say. Hmm, I guess those people were wrong. Weren't they?

If they found the offending party who hit you, I sure HOPE you press charges and hire a lawyer to sue the woman. She should have NOT hit and ran...ITs clearly a felony.

MY pet peeve are the parents who are taking their child to Hillside in the morning and who don't feel like turning on Ellzey. They stop on Claiborne parkway and drop off their kids there! Seriously, either drive your kid to school and drop them off in the designated area or walk them. Claiborne is NOT a safe place to stop your car and drop kids off!

Or the parents that park across from the school on Ellzey and walk their kids through traffic or over the hill and across the bus area to the school. Leave earlier or wait in line...

I find a big difference between parking legally on a side street directly in front of the school's entrance and parking on the shoulder of a 45mph parkway.

yeah- i can't see the problem with this except the walking thru traffic thing. when the boy was a 4th and 5th grader at Hillside i would pull over onto Ellzey and drop my kid off so he could walk across on the crosswalk. he did NOT cross the street in traffic.

now the people who stopped in the DRIVING lane- NEXT to parked cars- dropped off there kids while sitting at the stop sign were annoying. especially when they have several kids and projects etc. to unload so they now hold up traffic at the stop sign from proceeding- they are inconsiderate boobs. but if you park legally and let your kid walk properly across the crosswalks- sounds like the right thing to ME.
