Correct, they are the property of the State; what is not the property of the State is the personal information tied to that plate, and as such, can't be released as public information without proper authorization.

Trust me, I worked for a police department for a few years; if we ran a plate through NCIC/VCIN without proper reason or for someone without the proper credentials, we could/would be severely reprimanded.

Absolutely. License plate, okay. Name and contact info, not okay.

Still, if you don't want to be called out in a public forum, don't act in a way that deserves it. Like reckless or selfish driving.

That's easy for you to say - because you did not get unfairly "called ouit". I asked for my plate info to be removed, and it was. The person who had issue with me went off line and I feel we were able to work it out, they also regretted posting the plate info.

I was not "acting" any particular way in public that I felt necessary to be called out so I have no idea what you mean by the below other than it wasn't you and it's not your call to say I was driving selfish or reckless when you were not there to witness it.

I absolutely believe this incident occured because it happens all the time on Ridgeway. Situations like this are exactly why we moved off Ridgeway. I think a bit of call out from the homeowner community is exactly what Ridgeway needs.

Just because people speed on Ridgeway - and I know it's a problem, does not mean I do. So thank you very much for your chimed in two cents - I must have missed you on the sidewalk that morning while you took the whole incident in as it unfolded.

gotta speak up for hberg here- just because someone called him/her out that doesn't mean hberg actually WAS wrong. based on hbergs acct he/she perceived that the driver was driving slowly because they were pulling over to talk on a cell phone, not because they just backed out of a driveway.

the fact that there are MANY rude and inconsiderate incidents on ridgeway doesn't automatically make this one- for anyone who wasn't there we simply can't say.

My biggest issue with what occured here is that there's only 2 people that really know what happened, but from now on, whenever someone see's a silver Passat in the area (and for those that got to see the post with the plate number, a Passat with those plates), they'll know it's HBerg and they'll always have a 'doubt' in their mind as to if the driver of that car is a good driver or not.

On many occaisons, we made it clear that we don't exactly promise annonymity here, but in a way, if I was HBerg, I would now feel a little bit reluctant to post stuff because it's potentially MUCH easier to identify him driving around the development now. Not that it's a big deal, but to some people, it's enough to make them hesitate posting here, which is a shame. HBerg is a good user here, with interesting posts and comments. But I could totally understand if their posts become less 'pointed'...

    Just my 7 cents...

Sorry, hberg. You are right-- I wasn't there the morning that this incident occurred. I just get really fired up about issues on Ridgeway. I was nearly run off the road twice last year by people trying to pass me because I was going "too slow" (i.e. the speed limit of 25). That doesn't mean that you are personally at fault here. I just know from living on Ridgeway for over 2 years that situations like this happen all the time. I've even confronted other homewners personally about unsafe driving and only received arrogant responses or they just didn't seem to care. This post just brings up general feelings of frustration about Ridgeway. The street is just plain scarey-- to walk on, live on and drive on. I no longer live on Ridgeway, but really hope that the situation improves for everyone who still lives in Southern Walk. Anyway, hope there are no hard feelings.

People are making this more 'variable' then it needs to be IMO.

It's quite simple, unless a car is parked, there is no circumstance when you should be passing it on a 2 lane residential street.

If the car is stopped.. they should pull to the curb - this isn't a reason for you to pass them

If the car is slow.. - you have to deal with it - this isn't a reason to pass them

If the car is dead - get out and help push it to the curb :) This isn't a reason to pass it.

Anyone passing on this road is flat out wrong. If it happened to me, I'd simply follow them, note their address and file a complaint with the sherriff if it really got me peeved.

I can't see any way anyone can justify passing anyone on any street in broadlands except for the 4 lane roads.

I was dropping my son off at a house near the top of Ridgeway Dr. last Saturday. I was driving around 25-27mph. An SUV gets on my tail before I even make it to Mapleton. He kind of weaves side to side while behind me and is obviously frustrated at my being in his way. When he reaches his street he whips around the corner without slowing down, demonstrating his irritation.
Just another moment in time in the fast lane!

Since the original post and related content has been removed (and therefore no real subject for anyone to follow) I am locking this thread. A new one can be made on speeding or similar if anyone wants to further the discussion.

    Thanks!
