So help us out here. What would you like to see?
We already looked into a skate park. Our insurance carrier laughed at us.

It is not my fault if someone else's child screws up!

First and foremost, TAKE CARE OF YOUR OWN! If YOUR child does not have anything to do, then help them find something. There are sports leagues year round, numerous after-school activities, and for those kids who are of age... JOBS!

There is PLENTY to do if you get involved. Don't wait for the "community" to take care of entertaining YOUR children.

He doesn't have any children ;)

I didn't know you could play frisbee in the dark - that's quite an accomplishment.

Loitering in a park/trail after dark isn't something to do anyways. Loiter at someone's house or property.. or why cant you do that? Parents too 'over bearing' aka I can't do anything I please?

Regardless - its the typical bleeding heart teen story 'nothing to do'. This area has got more commercial, people, and recreational items within 3miles of you then I did within 60miles of where I grew up. Where my wife grew up there was *1* family of kids within 'meet/gather' distance so really... your story of being deprived of social outlets really falls on deaf ears here.

When you are mature enough to move around freely, within 20 mins you can be anywhere from here to tysons. Yeah.. nothing to do here to DC.. :rolleyes3:

Ugh! I have no patience for those without children who try to impart their "wisdom" on those of us who do.

I am not saying my "wisdom" is always right but have a kid first before spouting your drivel!

So what do you think about parents that have grown children in college and try to instill wisdom upon you!!!!! ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
T8erman but just wait to the little ones right now start to drive ha ha ha ha ha ha ha:clap::clap::clap::clap: Especially when they try before they even have a license ha ha ha ha
And parents that think their little angles have not done that think again. especially when they are out with their driving age friends or you are gone and the kids are at home by themselves with the extra cars and keys laying around. Oops sorry I am starting to instill wisdom on parents with little ones ;);) t8erman does not like that;)

    AshburnGuyy--

Why don't you check out your local 4H Clubs? It is not just for "Farm Kids" like ours. You can gain alot of "real life experience" for college and your future job and leadership skills. We also have available scholarships for "college-bound" young adults.

Look around you (and your friends)--the Broadlands area is only a small "sample" of what there is in Loudoun County to do for young adults. Offer to help out older Senior Citizens with their needs and shopping, learn a new trade/job skills for future leadership in a business, mentor younger kids in your local community by assisting with academics, learn how to start your own business and grow your business ideas, sports/swimming leagues, art/craft classes, yard work, develop an Internship opportunity for yourself (and others), tutor and teach literacy to low-income families for finances and reading skills, and if that fails to "pique your boredom"--come to our 25 acre farm and pitch muck, hay, and assist our quads with taking care of livestock on our farm.

Otherwise, get out there in the "real world" and learn by doing! Life is too short to be bored--how about developing computer games for kids. Try to get an Internship with a local business or local business owner. Volunteer at local museums and local arts/music programs. There is a "wealth" --yes, I used that term on purpose--you make your own "wealth" by being innovative and be informed on the issues of the day. Go seize the day--

    All the best--

The thing about a tot lott is that it is kids and parents, so in your backyard is not an issue... older kids will enjoy things like voleyball - but the kids who enjoy this are probably also in after school activities etc......

Your average teen is not going to go out and play on a bocce court... but I would.

You might look at pool tables and ping pong tables for the kids......

But I want my tot lott and am sick of the run around

ok. you're all coming up with ideas for kids that are "life-learning opportunities, for the child who is growing to be an adult, and college-bound." kids arent looking for that these days. theyre kids for crying out loud. they want to have fun, not do something that with supposedly enlighten them for the future. let them live for the now and enjoy whats rest of their childhood. im not saying that you have to build them a theme park or anything, but i think it would only be fair for you all to treat them to something that theyd really enjoy, seeing as how you accomodate those of such younger ages. in my opinion, its not too much to ask for.

    AshburnGuyy and others--

You do have an interesting point. What are your interests and how can you parlay that into a viable option for yourself (and your friends)? Yes, you are "only young once"--yes, I remember what that is like--believe it or not!
No, you should not do anything illegal or dangerous--just think about the ideas that I presented to you.

Anyway what are your suggestions? Are there any interests or hobbies that you cannot learn or have fun doing because lack of funds? I think part of the issue maybe that you need to figure out what your interests are and approach the adults and ask them for help. Just trying to help if needed--

Good luck--let me know if I can be of help to you.

I think it is time to bring this thread back to where it started. My suggestion is to put in a lighted basketball court in the space on Ridgeway. It can be used my people of many ages and provides great physical activity. I’m a commercial electrician and willing to donate my time to install the lights (big ones, really bright). I can even get the equipment at cost through my business as we have a relationship with a stadium lighting company. For neighborhood recreation leagues, we could also look into a scoreboard and PA system. We'd need to address parking, benches and water fountains, but I'm sure we'd be able to figure something out. What do you think?

i think a skatepark would actually be a good thing to look into. there are ample amounts of young skaters around the area with nowhere to go. i've talked to the owner of the sonoco center area off truro parish, elvin capastani, and he agreed that it wouldnt be such a bad idea for a skatepark to be put in the area. i think itd be a great place for kids to hang out, have fun, learn, and meet new friends. honestly.

I believe the HOA was and may still be looking into putting lights in at the b-ball court by the SW swimming pool.

    Hoopsman-
I'll take you up on your offer. We have been consideing lighting either the basketball court by the Nature Center or pool. Contact Wes at the office 703-729-9711.

    AshburnGuy-
Elvin thinks it's a good idea so you don't skate on his property. The HOA already persued this, but it is not possible due to insurance costs. Our current insurer would drop us, and the cost to do it with someone else is prohibitively high.

See I agrre with ashburnguyy, if insurance is high and money is the issue maybe discuss the matter, skateboarder population is rising from when i was younger, in about a year I have seen 1 kid turn into 100, and you wonder why they are skating your property, and no help is given; to be honest majority of teenage kids I see are skateboarders around here. But if not that then like some sort of like entertainment for teens. And for flyyinbus, creating your own fun is hard to do when so many restrictions are upon you. Big Brother never lets up you know. See in your situation is far from ours you grew up diffrentley than others so its a hard comparison. I just hate the idea that we are just a rising community for little children and resturant enthusiast.

but on the insurance issue, tell me how there are *2* skateparks in DC in a not so good Neighborhood, they are good parks and WE can't afford it. We can if we push, thats how all parks are created, the thing is its needed, and great. Catoctin is far and the park is falling apart. It's horrible to say we can't do this cause we can, we just nned a little funding and political push. If it were you guys leading the revolutionary war we would be talking with accents. So lets stop denying and start thinking about how we could make it, not how we can't

There's a big difference between what a town or city can do and what an HOA can do. That's why Leesburg can have a skate park. The laws/legal responsibilities are treated completely differently. You and I may not like it, but that's the way it is.
