:mad:So looking out our windows we see that the no parking sign was mowed down last night, parts of it and a car are Spewn as it took out a pine tree and veered back onto the road. we called the sheriff and he is now outside looking at it. Kaosgirl said she heard a loud boom about 2am this morning, we were dead to it as parents!

Aw, you stole my thunder! I was composing a great post the whole way in.

Anyway - like she said looks like someone made an unsheduled right turn just across Rideway from us. A split second earlier and it would have been a fire hydrant. They took out the "No Parking Sign" with (what appears to be) the left side of a small Toyota. The debris field was impressive - about 45 feet of ejecta. It showed some real talent as the largest piece appears to be the wheel well.

If this was you please check your car's vital fluids as there were many "O-rings" and chunks of what used to be seals (the mechanical type seal - not the cute fuzzy ones). The reason I know it's a Toyota is that's what it said on the sensor I found embedded in the mud about 15 feet from impact. I'm no good at reading Japanese, but I think the rough translation of the sensor type was; "This regulates the air/fuel mixture so your car doesn't explode."

The driver continued west over the grass and mowed down one of the little pines infront of the elementary school. The pine put up a fight and ripped out a floor pan as a trophy. The poor little thing left behind a couple dozen pine cone orphans. At that point the driver made a sharp left back on to Ridgeway and went off west, but the tracks soon dried up.

I figure one of two things happened:

    1) Chalk up another one for Wild Life [IMG]

    2) The driver's last text messages was; "ZOMG u should have seen the look on his dafksjhtglkjvfnjdv0i3r0fisjosdjfklj!!!"

Could any of the parts have VIN numbers on them to ID the vehicle?

This reminds me of an incident when I was living in a townhouse in Kingstowne, Alexandria about 7 years ago and around 2-3 a.m. we were awakened by the sound of a car crashing into the front porch of an end-unit townhouse across the street from us. The car went about 20 feet down a hill, hit the porch and then somehow drove back up the hill, on grass, and took off without anyone seeing anything. I don't think they ever identified the vehicle or the driver. Crazy stuff.
