YUP - that's another one of my pet peeves. We're daily walkers with our dog and another thing that annoys me is when bikers/scooters pass and DON'T say anything and scare the daylights out of us and dog when they pass practically running us down! And when people do say something - I'm so thrilled and always say thank you back to them.

I just wonder if some people are using these technologies (cell phone, Ipod, ect) to isolate themselves from the people around them?

Strange that technology designed to bring people closer can be used to further isolate people.

Ozgood - you may have a point - I've noticed that more and more people are using Ipods, cells etc. instead of actually carrying on a conversation OR enjoying the peace of nature or no noise at all if indoors. I guess I'm getting old....but when I'm walking with hubby - we have the best conversations and when I'm by myself - I just LOVE hearing the birds and sounds of nature, it's so peaceful! As stated before, I'm not tied to my cell phone at all, but when I was on vacation recently - I noticed people walking thru the airport texting or talking and it seems like it's a whole new generation is using these modes of communicating versus actually talking to a person. I notice it at work too...instead of walking over to a person's desk and communication - send an e-mail, even if that person is right next to you.

We went to see Star Trek on Sunday. Sitting next to me was this woman texting throughout the movie!

If you don't wanna see the movie don't go to the theater!

BTW do people even care that the light from their Iphone can be disrupting in a dark movie theater? Probably not. :(

I've seen people do that too..but mostly teenagers...with the price of movie tickets, geez, you'd think they'd pay attention to the movie. That's bad. I agree - the dang light from their phone is disruptive. That's why - we don't go to movies all that often

For me, it is the people who have removed all the enjoyment of seeing a movie in a theater.

I would much rather wait the 3 months or so and get it on disk to watch in the privacy of my home.

Same movie, better entertainment experience IMHO

Totally agree!!! It's so much better to watch a movie in the comfort of your own home. Why should I pay all that $$ to be annoyed by inconsiderate people? I can't tell you the number of times I've had to ask people to please STOP kicking the back of my seat!!! That really annoys me.

Driving or going to the movie theater, the world seems full of self centered peopel who simply don't have consideration of others.

The scary part is that inconsiderate drivers can kill people. :(

I don't think the solution is more driving laws, or even the increased enforcement of existing driving laws. The problem won't be solved until people start being considerate to others.

And only the individual can change that.

    The "considerate" can too.

It is a pet peeve of mine when people disregard traffic signs/signals/protocol to be overly nice to other drivers in normal to light traffic (e.g., traffic is flowing at 65 on the beltway and someone slows down significantly and quickly to let someone merge in).

wasn't a law just passed that makes using a PDA for anything other than looking up a number to call illegal? That covers the texting, facebooking, web surfing by drivers.

What about subliminal messaging during reality TV shows to force behavior modification?

First - I have to pleade guilty to doing a really dumb thing while driving. Driving down GW Parkway, configuring a laptop. Yes, loading the OS, punching in IP secs, loading software. Not gonna say why as it will sound like an excuse, I was very young (hey - it was NT 3.5) and (obviously) StewPid!

Second - George Carlin (who else?) did a whole skit on people in their cars. He pointed out that folks in cars think they are in this little box & it's like being at home. Hey! It's a box, right? That's why folks do things in their car they would NEVER do if you could "see" them, which you can - windows & mirrors & things, right?

Lastly - you cage drivers have seen aggressive, stupid & inconsiderate. Us two wheelers get to experience downright hostile activity. I can count on, at least once per day, getting the cager LOOKING ME RIGHT IN THE FACE and pulling out with me less than two car lengths away. Or the SUVs & Minivans that all of the sudden think that the right right turn lane at LCPW/Waxpool is going to turn righter than the left right turn lane and they muscle their way over because - hey! I'm on a bike! What am **I** going to do about it, right?

There are a LOT of folks out there that think bikes are just lightweight little things that can do no damage. Well, consider this:

Somehow - I just don't see a "winner" in that fight.

Worst I have done in a moving car was when I was a COTR. I used to frequently drive on 495, eating lunch, talking on the cell phone (no hands free then) while accessing my PDA all at the same time.

Not smart at all (hanging head in shame). The things we do for the government.

Funniest thing I have seen while driving..

Driving down the toll road one morning. I notice a car behind me that is driving a little faster than I am. Ya know when you first look at something, you get this initial impression? Well my first impression was that the driver was blowing a bugle.

Oh man, I need some coffee. I pull over in to the slow lane to allow him to pass. When he pulls up next to my car, I look over and honestly there was this guy blowing a bugle in his car!!!

I guess that was the only time he could practice? Good thing his airbag did not explode.

Blowing a bugle while driving. That just made my day.

Yes I am one of those considerate drivers who moves to the slow lane when someone wants to pass. :)

I was more referring to the bugle.
