I'm looking at a few homes in Southern Walk that have crawl spaces. Having had no previous experience with them, I'd like to know if those of you who have crawl spaces are happy with them, would opt for a full basement if you were to do it all over again, have had any problems, etc. Any opinions are appreciated!

well crawl spaces can't really be used for much. I would go with a basement if you can. I don't believe that these crawl spaces can be used for storage so they pretty much just become a means of getting to plumbing and wires and hvac if they put it under there.

I had a crawl space in a previous home and regretted not getting a basement instead. I have a full basement now but only use it for storage because I don't need the extra space. But, when I sell the house, the buyer can finish it anyway they wish. If you do get the basement, make sure you get the walk-out with it.

My main concern would be with resale value. In this area, people generally expect basements. A house without one would have one big strike against it.

Go for the basement, the cheapest footage you can get whether you use it or not. I don't know what your builder will charge you, but it has to be much less then the upper floors basically all you are adding is some taller concrete walls and columns some cheap plumbing and electrical a stair some extra cheap mechanical and a few windows and an areaway if not a walkout. Minimal expense for the gain if the builder does not gouge you on this. Even a complete finished standard basement is a bargin for what you get, most of the time
