This is most noticeable in the master bedroom of my SFH -- on days like today, it sounds like the siding is creaking (as though not secured very well) when the wind gusts. The sound is much like a large tarp fluttering. Has anyone else has experienced this and been able to correct it?

one big assumption I have based upon your description is that the siding on your house is vinyl? I mean the material of the siding itself.

When this is installed over the tyvek (or similar) insulating material, which is also over the plywood, it is all held together typical by nails. The siding overlaps each other row by row to add support. The sound you hear is what I would guess is the noise vinyl makes when slightly flexing.

This is normal and what I would do is visually inspect that area outside your master bed to see of it seems "looser" than the rest...

just my thoughts. If your siding is not vinyl, and something like Hardie board, then something similar can be heard but again, the sound would be different and in both cases is normal - to a degree.

I hear the same "creaking" in our TH (we're an end unit). I was assuming it was normal, and as zeratul suggests, probably the siding simply flexing or slightly moving if there is too much slack in the various pieces.

If your bedroom like our's is above the garage, the noise you hear could be from the garage doors fluttering. On a windy day we notice similar sounds and at first I suspected that some siding/window shutters were rattling but then went into the garage and found it was beeing caused by the doors.
