HOA: Why are Village and Fieldthorn neglected?

This is an open question to the HOA about the neglect along Village Drive and Fieldthorn common areas and sidewalks.

Yes I could have called them directly to ask, but I believe the rest of the community needs to know that these problem areas are out there. This is a forum in the end. (Let me clarify... below is what I'd like to get a response from the HOA. I have not called them yet)

    On to the question/complaint:

    Dear HOA,
I'd like to complain about an ongoing issue I've seen along Village Drive and Fieldthorn in regards to the general neglect of the common areas, including sidewalks, pathways and open grounds.

A simple drive down both of these roads will provide a sight of overgrown weeds along the edge of sidewalks and pathways (some up to a persons knees), scattered trash (I saw a liquor bottle today amongst the other bags and cans) a pile of broken concrete (yes, a pile of broken concrete just lying on the side of the road), fire lane paint that is so peeled away you can't even tell it is a fire lane and since I've already raised it before, the continued growth of dog poop piles (which my vet has confirmed can be a way to spread disease to both humans and animals).

Now, I know that the dog poop is directly out of your control, though I believe some sort of policy on fines or announcements are in order from the HOA. I also understand you cannot police people daily to stop them from throwing trash, but it upsets me that things even get to this point.

I would like to assume that members of the HOA take time during the day/week to drive along our community roads and make an assessment of what the area looks like. But I don't have confidence this has happened for Village or Fieldthorn.

Today I even saw the HLS crew out near the park, yet by late this afternoon, on my lunch break that crew was gone and yet none of the free standing weeds were cleared on Village or Fieldthorn. Do they not take care of those streets? Are these still under VM control of HOA now?

I confess I don’t know the full responsibilities of the HOA and that attending one of your meetings can help shed some light on my questions. But until I find the time to attend, I feel it is my right to use this forum as a means to pose a general question.

I’m hoping you and your members can help make these two streets look the way they should for all those that live in the area and for the benefit of the community as a whole.

    Thank you.
    Chris

I understand why you're posting this here, but might I also suggest you give the HOA a call or send a letter in. Technically, these forums are great places to respond to questions and such, but if you have an issue that needs to be dealt with as a resident, you definitely need to bring it up directly with the HOA.

    Mr Linux:
You are correct. And I have done that. Actually last year I sent multiple emails with photographs of similar areas along these roads to the HOA and Van Meter. They were helpful and responded to my emails during those times.

I wanted others to be aware this time around.

    Chris,

It's important if you want to address the HOA that you contact them properly. Copying on the forum is good for the rest of us to see, but the HOA board does not always read things here, and anything they do see here, for official purposes would have you contact them directly again anyways.

The forum is not an official 'conduit' to reach the board, even though several of the board members do frequent the forum.

Just an FYI - you may get a response, but if you don't, they will not consider this contacting them.

    Steve-
Will do, I'll shoot them the same message then and keep you all posted.

I guess I live in an internet world too much;)

Totally understand. Like I said, I think it's great to discuss this issue here, but you also need to contact the HOA directly. As Flynnibus indicated, the forums aren't technically an official conduit to the board, even if many of us are regular readers/posters here :)

Having the HOA contacted directly also makes it a lot easier for your issue to be put on our agenda for the next meeting and getting your issue resolved more quickly.

If I can get out from work a tad early today, I try to drive down the section you're talking about to get a first-hand look at the situation.

    Thanks Mr. Linux!

I actually just sent the posting and message to the HOA via email 1 minute ago.

    I'll report my findings.

    I appreciate the understanding!

I'm aware of many of these issues. I confirmed a few weeks ago that the curbs will be repainted (I noticed them on a bike ride.) They were borderline last year and we decided to let it go one more year.
Several of the areas are still under Van Metre control, so without specifics, I can't tell you who is responsible for certain areas.
Lastly, trash is a constant issue.

Thanks for sharing Cliff! Makes more sense.

Is there anything I can do to assist in the future then? I wouldn't mind being an advocate and 'eye on the street' for my area if it helps your team keep track of the entire community.

I saw the HLS crew out this morning mowing the grass on Fieldthorn, we'll see if they trimmed the weeds on the bike path(they were still there when I left).

Let me know what I can do to help.
