Has anyone has problem with kitchen cabinets separating from the wall ? We have about a half inch gap at the top of 2 cabinets. Our builder was washington homes, now K Hovian. House is almost 8 years old. Any suggestions?

Can you move the cabinets with your hand currently? Sounds like they did not put the screws into studs...? If not, that's a simple fix... get a stud finder and put in new 2 1/2" wood screws for the affected cabinets.

...or they screwed into studs and the screws have just worked their way out. Try tightening them down...if they just spin, it's likely they're directly to the drywall. But, it the entire top is pulling away on moe than one cabinet, it's unlikely the cabinet contractor screwed straight into drywall in 4 places. Just try screwing them back in.

Our Brighton model built in 1998 had the same problem a couple of years ago, although the cabinets didn't pull away from the wall. They more or less separated from themseleves, so the problem couldn't be fixed by reattaching the cabinets. (The part of the cabinet attached to the wall separated from the rest of the cabinet.) After going several rounds with Wash Homes with them claiming the cabinets were no longer under warranty, they finally agreed to replace them. The next problem was that they no longer used the same cabinet supplier so they had to re-establish contact with them. Then, the replacement cabinets weren't from the same dye lot, so the color was way off. We ended up having them put the original doors on the new cabinets so the color difference wasn't as noticable. Good luck getting it fixed...
